2022 is almost over and so is the summer motorcycle camping season, so it seems like a perfect time to reflect on which pieces of motocamping gear I thought was the best camping gear of 2022. I've been lucky enough to get out moto camping quite a few times this year, and over that time I've discovered ten pieces of motorcycle camping gear I really just can't live without. This awesome moto camping gear ranges from firestarters to camp slippers and tents, but whether you're just getting started motorcycle camping, have tons of moto camping experience, or are just hoping to send this video to someone who just may be buying you some motocamping gear for an upcoming holiday, hopefully you find something you love on this motorcycle camping gear list:

Hut Moc’s are the real deal! Been rocking them since they were in development and won’t switch to anything else. Great shoe/slippers you can toss on and do almost anything in. They’re a bit pricey, but I think it’s justified. Grab them up while you can as the Hut Moc 2.0 was recently released. 2.0 sole was redesigned to have the classic Moc lugs as they realized people were using them outdoors more than they thought.

Thanks for sharing your top 10. I splurged and got myself a Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL3 after thinking about it for about a year. It was sort of a retirement present to myself. It was difficult justifying to myself spending that much on a tent when I already have more than one very usable tents but the paced size was really a selling point for me. I figured out how many times I needed to use it rather than going to a motel to feel like I got my money's worth out of it. Not that many times and I have already gotten my money's worth out of it. I've always used inexpensive gear to have money to buy motorcycles and travel so it's a huge deal to spend that type of money no matter how good the quality is. I also splurged almost 15 years ago to get a Big Agnes sleeping bag, again it was to get something that would pack up smaller. I've really gotten my money's worth out of it too. My next splurge might be a Big Agnes pad to replace the Thermarest that I have been using since the mid-80s. The nice thing is even though I'm over retirement age I don't have the aches and pains most people my age have and I still love Motocamping.

I have the 25x78 qcore deluxe and it’s a good pad, used it all year including 16 nights straight touring the eastern USA. It’s not the most comfortable pad I have but it’s 1/3 the size of the most comfortable pad I have and that means I can have things like a chair and table which overall makes me more comfortable

Nice, I've been waiting for this. I have the Nemo Jazzy, and it's almost ten years old. It doesn't seem quite as warm as it used to be. I've been thinking about the Big Agnes Bag. I also totally agree with the Nemo fillo luxury pillow. If you're not familiar with the Nemo, Jazzy is probably the original setup to what you have there but Nemo brand and not down. I paid at least $500 for the whole setup back then so it's not bad to be in that range now. Thanks for sharing this.

I have the Diamond Park 0 degree bag and It is AMAZING! I'm a firm believer in investing in sleep and it is worth every penny. The first time I used it the temp dropped down to the mid 20s (F) and it was warm...it bordered on too warm. The best sleep I have ever had at camp! Thank you, Ben, for talking me into this bag. I did have the Q Core Delux 30x78, while it is super comfortable it is huge when packed and went back with the 25" Nemo Tensor. I love your videos, keep it up!

I love my Diamond Park 0 degree bag, but I’m surprised it topped your list for this year. It’s pretty massive for a motorcycle. I use mine for car camping. The Enlightened Equipment quilt seems quite a bit more versatile than the Big Agnes due to its smaller volume and multiple configurations. I think the straps are the only downside for the quilt, however. I’m curious why you chose the BA over the EE. Thanks for the great video!

You have the sleeping pad and bag dialed. Great gear...I don't have this kit but it looks like the best there is, also its important to have a tent or hammock/tarp that you love. Its good to have reliable gear that you can use incase of fatigue, hypothermia, numb fingers etc..

I’ve used the Bigfoot Bushcraft fire starters, X-Mug, and BA Diamond Park 15F sleeping bag. They are all top notch pieces of gear. Like Dork said the sleeping bag is not cheap but it is worth every penny. It keeps me warm in mid to high 30F weather in shorts and a tee shirt. I have both of the sleeping pads but yet to use either. I’m a hammock camper so can’t comment on the tent.

Nice video, great recommendations, for those moto campers who also backpack the weight of each item often influence the decision to buy or not, the pump is no exception, yes I take one, its a flextail, smaller, lighter and the version I have incorporates a lantern I hang in my tent, awesome piece of kit

I use the tiny smallest flextai too. About half the size and weight and the lantern feature is really good, on some kit they can be gimmicky. Pump runs for 15 mis on a single charge (timed it myself) so lots of blow ups. Good tip about using it on a fire from dotr too.

Hello! New subscriber. I fell asleep watching KZfaq and woke up to your Washington trail video and decided to check your channel out. I don’t ride motorcycles but I car camp and Hike and I have been starting to bicycle camp. I love Merrill stuff BTW! I won’t buy anything else! I am so glad I found this review. I am bigger person and have been through so many different equipment to find stuff that fits me and takes up less space. I am going to check out the sleeping bag! I currently use Teton Sports sleeping bag that works great on my cot for regular car camping but will be difficult to fit on a bike. Also I love that your keeps the pad from moving around!! I am a stomach and side sleeper as well but I will tell you if you ever decide to try out a hammock, try Kammock, it hold up to 600lbs and has tough, really tough suspension but it also lets you cover up a bit more. I sleep really well in it. The biggest problem is getting out of it in the morning. As a bigger it can be difficult, just remember to role out! Lol but it does take up little to no space so I take it every where with me, just in case.

I have always loved a good tent, but i realized i go camping alone alot and and my least favorite part is packing it up the next morning. I went with a bivy sac for that reason and with a sleeping pad and nice bag, i have had no complaints. When its cold (>30F) i have a wool blanket that i wrap around the inside. Personal preferance but they are super light and great for hiking and motorcycle camping.

I always consider, how much would you pay to spend the night in a decent hotel room for one night. Often you would pay nearly 200 dollars for one night. If you spend 5 nights camping, the cost for the same number of nights camping, that 1000 dollars you get to keep all the equipment. They're investments, and get less expensive per night of camping so go camping more too make them less expensive :)

Great stuff! I'll have to piece it together with hopes of getting enough vacay to get out of Satan's armpit to go camping. Car camping we Walmart a lot of it but, the light stuff is kinda necessary for on the bike and if going somewhere cold you need to be prepared. Besides you have to have space for libations...

Yet another "Crazy Corporate Shill" video! However, in this case I approve completely. Especially like to SEE the products in-use/demonstrated along WITH the editorial comments/user experience/endorsements (which is to say, good job on the editing). I also don't think you need to feel too guilty about buying and recommending higher quality, expensive gear. I have (in my younger years) moto camped on the cheap, with both equipment and riding apparel, and suffered greatly because of it. I say, buy the best you can afford. Knowing you have gear that works and is comfortable to use and enjoy only increases the odds that you'll use it MORE OFTEN.

A $500 tent is a requirement for motorcycle camping. Why? Because I have a BA Tiger Wall bikepacking tent, and anyone who goes motorcycle camping will do what I do.

I’d Che k in getting a satellite communicator like a zoleo of the shtf. I pay 20 bucks a month and can communicate with family and friends anywhere around the world. Also has a sos button if ya go down and need help. Hitting the sos button will send the Calvary to your location. Just a thought😀
