I enjoy these thoroughly. Great job Cold Steel. One suggestion, a tool should always come with a sheath no matter what. Also, typical cold steel materials are reasonably sharp or very sharp - not these. They came pretty dull, so perhaps just an encouragement to revisit the profile your factory is giving them and consider slightly thinner edges. Small revisions, great products even so.

Put a 30 inch handle on the Rifleman's Hawk, and now you have a light axe. I also have the Trail Hawk. I find the edge a tad short. But for light duty work, its a decent hawk. And yes, it throws nicely.

Outstanding review and comparison of both of these Hawks! I decided on the Rifleman just today. $21 from Amazon. What a bargain in 2023 !! Looking forward to using it around the house and camp. Thanks again for your content.

If you want a good throwing hawk, from Cold Steel, get the Norse Hawk. A lovely thing, and so easy to stick in a log. I love mine. The steel is 1055, and its not just what its made of, but how its cooked. Aka, heat treated and tempered. Just got my Rifleman's hawk today. I've been using hawks for all sorts of things since the early 80's, and the Rifleman's hawk is bigger then any I have, and as big as the bit on my 3/4 axe. So I am now calling it the Rifleman's Axe, and I'm getting a longer handle for it.

Glad to see you got rid of the useless set screws. Now, if you want to fill the hole. Go to your local hardware store. Take the head, and they should have a bolt or machine screw that will fit. Thats what I did with mine. I also removed the factory finish and used Birch Wood Casey's Super Blue to refinish them. Both are great hawks and I have both. For throwing I do prefer the Trail Hawk, since it is a bit lighter. But when you hit with the Rifleman's Hawk, it makes a wonderful THUNK! Stay safe and have fun. And yes the Ken Onion Work Sharp with Grinding attachment, will do a great job of putting a good edge on your hawks. That's what I used.

the trail hawk is the best for fighting i think, it wont get stuck anywhere coz of the beard, and it has the most primitive look to it, its why i bought it

Very good review. Im thinking of getting a trail hawk as a lighter warm weather hawk. Seems very good for crafting, and can handle any wood id need to cut for cooking. Got a much heavier axe for winter when i need fire for warmth.

I used to do a lot of knife throwing, I have heard that tomahawks are easier throwers. I was pretty decent with most of my knives but found my bowie knife was more rewarding of a feeling to stick. Have you done any knife throwing before? And if so, how does it compare?
@GTMGunTotinMinnesotan
@GTMGunTotinMinnesotan 3 жыл бұрын
I think knife throwing is similar in that the release for me feels more like a slip rather than a letting go of the knife. I've thrown the Cold Steel Bushman quite a few times, very nice thrower actually.

...soft steel means that you can actually SHARPEN it. Stainless? Like 95% of cutlery today? Good luck, bub. Even pro butchers don't use stainless....the sheath was an inexpensive add-on, 10 bucks, I think...it's a great tool. Easy to shape new handles.

Well 1055 is a medium carbon steel, and since high carbon steel starts at 1060, its not so bad of steel. I have 4 CS tomahawks, and three of the Viking axes, all made from the same steel. Its good stuff.

Never seen convincing evidence a god exists. Strange to live your live based off the tenets of something you cant be sure of. Not to mention even if god does exist no evidence exists the words in the bible are actually his....any version.

I see you have some misunderstandings about what inspired text entails, this is a great link to get you started. I don't blame you at all, I think a lot of Christians and especially those who don't follow Jesus misunderstand that concept: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bZiAqbiQvN24aaM.html As for living my life for Jesus, yes it will seem very strange to the world. Romans 1-2 talk about the world rejecting what has been plain since the foundation of the world because the heart of humanity knows what is good but wants reasons to deny it has objective reality based in God's design. I grant that scripture isn't likely to change your mind, but you can at least see where Christ followers are coming from. I'm fully convinced that God made us, and His intention is for good but humanity is arrogant and blinded by a desire to self gratify at the cost of everyone else. I would say there is no good evidence that we live in a simulation or that we created ourselves or that the "universe" made us us. I also affirm that God loves you and wants you to come to a knowledge of the truth and in a life giving relationship with Him! Thanks for watching either way friend, I wish you well on your pursuit. Your life is meaningful and objectively intrinsically valuable because God gave it to you!

@@GTMGunTotinMinnesotan You missed the entire point. What evidence do you have that anything in your bible is the word of God? None...therefore its objectively correct you live your life based off principals of a bunch of humans you didnt know many of years ago. Then you try to legislate and make decisions based off this unscientific made up information. I read the link its absolutely pointless.
@GTMGunTotinMinnesotan

The link isn't a read, it's a video, and it corrects your misunderstanding about the term "word of God". You don't understand the principle of inspiration so you will keep thinking you are making a point when you are the one missing the point. Also, if you mean to say that I attempt to legislate morality for other people based on my Christian beliefs, you have no evidence for that. And again, my original response is very accurate and still standing strong. Epistemologically God is properly basic in our eyes, I don't need you to agree, but to understand better what Christians actually believe concerning terms like word of God or inspired. Right now you are having a lay level misunderstanding which in a sophomoric way is common, but if you want to get to the next level of discourse you have to educate yourself better and not strawman the position with false dichotomies. If you wanted to convince me, you would start by showing me that you understand what I believe properly, and then as I trust you understand, then battle the idea instead of ad hominem attempts mixed with your contentions. Good luck on your research if you commit yourself to do so. My original response is strong enough, you go ahead with the last word and I'll leave it at that since we haven't entered territory yet where deeper dialogue is available. And at this point, I'm very curious which tomahawk you'd prefer?

@@GTMGunTotinMinnesotan I can make this very simple for you. 1. Provide any evidence at all that a god exists. 2. Once #1 is complete, provide ANY evidence that the book you follow is the word of god. It is quite literally that simple. If condition 1 cant be met your entire believe system is unfounded. No further dialoge is needed because the burden of proof is on you making the claim a god exists, and then even further that the bible is the word of god. If that cant be done you are correct, no discourse needs to take place.
