That little table saw is so cute! GI Joe needs one! I’m just messing with you - for the price you paid, it’s perfect for what you’re using it for. It was worth the $25 you spent. The idea of using spade bits to get different cut ideas is pretty slick. Your brain clearly works on a different level!!

You'd think, but these days, it's the ones that sit there, nod, and score well that get all the attention because nonstandard answers mean the teacher has to do more work. Plus later institutions only care about what can be translated into their metrics.

Wow, you've taken my idea to a new level. I reshaped spade bits some 35 yrs ago to make small parts and even rosettes in wood trim. I once made one into a fly cutter and used it in my drill press to flatten a twisted piece of wood (I didn't have a planer or table saw then). Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Hi Josh, I like that you use this method to make your shaped pieces, I've used this in the past to make door frame rosettes to match the ones already in my house. This method takes patience, and a steady hand or your bit comes out completely unbalanced. Good work.

You can make tapered holes the same way. Grind the sides of a paddle bit to the angle you want, cut the shaft short. clamp your workpiece very tight. Since your bit is cutting on the sides, grind it accordingly. Thanks for sharing this!! Very inventive.

You should experiment with the lathe like you do with all of your other tools. I would love to see what you could come up with! Also, a bandsaw might be easier to release all of the small pieces from the slab.
@JoshWrightWoodworking
@JoshWrightWoodworking 4 ай бұрын
I agree the band saw would be easier to cut the peices free but I don't have a fence on my bandsaw and lack the steady hand to cut straight lol. As for the lathe, I have filmed some stuff but I don't think it fits with this channel all that well. I'm probably gonna start a second channel just for lathe stuff.

Angled bevel seems to cut a little better but it also dulls quicker and can be more difficult to re-sharpen. I kinda like 90 degrees better but both should cut fine

Don't look at it as destroying the bits, you are creating tools to make pens. What you can do is if you can find a way to braze carbide with metal you can make your cutting tools with higher rpm to make smoother cuts without burning and chipping the wood.

No thanks. If one of those gives out, you've got shrapnel flying at you.
@1pcfred
@1pcfred 4 ай бұрын
Actually that drill bit is going about 200 times more slowly than sharpnel flies. So no not like shrapnel at all. But the splinter likely would be larger. So you may be dealing with more foot pounds of force? Still, unless you get hit in a really vulnerable spot you're probably going to be OK. Really the odds of it flying towards you and actually hitting you at all are less than 50/50 too. I'll tell you what is most likely to happen. A piece would break off and just embed itself in the wood. Because you'd probably be drilling when it failed.
