Welcome to my 9th Vlog. This week I have done a run down of some of my favorite bits of kit. | Subscribe to Cycling Weekly here: kzfaq.info...
Working for Cycling Weekly means that I get to test and try out most of what is on the market. The products here, are my favorites and things that I keep using.
The other thing I have to stress is that no company has paid to be included here. This is completely impartial.
The products are:
Oakley Radar EV glasses
Giro Synthe Helmet
Assos Mille Habu S7 Bibtights
Pearl Izumi Transfer base layer
Rapha Pro Team Aero Jersey
Topeak Race Rocket HP mini pump
Giro Empire SLX shoes
Gore ONE Active jacket
Wahoo Tickr heart rate monitor
If you have any questions, let me know and we will try our best to answer them.
Cheers,
Ollie

Glad you picked up on the top rim of the glasses being high. It is a pet peeve of mine and most people don't consider this when buying. More important for road riding.

Castelli Perfetto short sleeve jersey. Wear it most of the year round in the UK. just over a base layer it's like a jersey but over a jersey and paired with some arm warmers is like a jacket. Also pretty waterproof and good fit.

Favorite kit: Castelli Perfetto Vest. Great piece of layering kit to get through the shoulder seasons, and even into some harder effort winter rides. Looks good, feels good, and doesn't drag in the wind.

My favourite bit of kit is my long sleeved Rapha Brevet jersey, in coral. The merino material is super-comfortable, it's light enough that when worn on its own it's good for Spring & Autumn rides here in the UK, yet warm enough that with a nice snug base layer, it covers most UK Winter rides. The Brevet design has loads of storage in the rear projects for food & plenty of spare tubes for our lovely pot-holed roads. And finally the coral colour is a really stunning one, high-visibility without being a "hi-viz" item, really cool.

Favorite item, so far, is the Sportful Fiandre Light Wind Jersey. It's a bit more of a jacket, than a jersey, though close fitting as you move. Sometimes I need to block the wind more than I need a thermal lining, and this fits my needs for several months each year.

My favourite bit of kit has got to be my GripGrab classic knee warmers. There's nothing fancy about them, and that's what makes them so good! They're plenty warm enough, block the wind, stay in place brilliantly and even though it's not a listed feature, they're water resistant enough to handle bit of light rain!

My favourite pieces of kit are my Castelli Toe Thingy's. I wear them pretty much through all of Autumn and spring, with the odd milder winter day thrown in as well. They look cool and jazz up my pretty mediocre cycling shoes, plus they are a great talking point during the cafe stop. oh and they are fairly cheap too.

Favourite kit currently: SeeSense Icon rear light. Bright but not blinding, the flash pattern reacts to your speed, the road surface, how close the car behind is. I wasn't too sure about daytime running of lights as well as in the dark, but through the gloom of the Peak District winter it's been on every day. Anything that makes me feel safer on roads is a winner in my book ;) Also, the battery charge lasts ages...at least a month of daily rides.... bingo! Rubbish at putting salt on me chips mind....

Ollie, nice little review of kit, but lets be honest, the most versatile kit are arm warmers! For cool San Francisco morning rides, I never leave home without them!!! Perfect for cool mornings, pull them down on a climb, and pull them up on the descent. And when it gets warmer, stuff them in the rear pocket! As long as they stay up and not too tight, they're good!

My favourite bit of kit is my Torm HT2 head tube (neck warmer). The tube is long enough to pull up to my helmet adjuster on the back and over my nose for descending without leaving gaps around the jersey/jacket neck but has enough 'rigidity' to be push down and remain open at the top on climbs to aid temperature control. It keeps the wind completely out when up and as a degree of water repellency too. Im 6'4" so have a fair bit of neck to keep warm and It's available in my club colours (FVC black and pink) as well which is a bonus.

My favourite piece of kit is Castelli gabba 3 short sleeve. Very nice and tight fit and with Castelli nanoflex arm warmers very convertible. Also La passione products are very cool looking, pretty cheap if you compare them to Castelli, Rapha etc. And ofc they are made in Italy.

Best bit of kit for me are Castelli Nanoflex arm warmers as they turn a short sleeve Gabba in to a long sleeve one, or fit nicely under a long sleeve jersey for extra warmth and rain protection. Plus they never slide down or bunch up. Good for -2 to +15 degrees in my experience.

I tried the 1985 model on a quite warm but rainy day with plenty of climbing to do. It breathes like nothing else, but the best part was the double zipper. When you enter sauna-mode, but it's still raining, just zip the bottom zip up, and you let the steam out without letting the rain in.

Cool stuff Ollie, and thanks for sharing the depth of info on your choices! Now consider that most working class mortals can't afford to roll in £1K plus worth of kit, and that many who could afford it choose lower cost options (baffling to the cycling industry amiright?). With that in mind, how about a vid like this featuring kit at half the price of the fine examples shown here. Remember not to confuse lower cost with "for beginners only." Kit doesn't have to carry a luxury price tag to be technically excellent.

I've been using a Giro Synthe MIPS helmet and my problem is it's TOO comfortable. One morning I went out for a ride and after a couple of miles something didn't seem quite right. Checking, I eventually discovered I hadn't put my helmet on! The Synthe is so comfortable I forget I'm wearing it (or not). Maybe I should stick a nail in it so it sticks into my scalp to remind me it's there? As for a pump, Lezyne makes lightweight water bottle cages that incorporate a holder for a pump. That way you definitely won't feel it at all (especially if you crash and somehow land on your back), and you have more space in your jersey pockets.

Your helmet comment gave me a good giggle!! I have one too and one of the reasons I got it was so I could secure my Oakley Jawbreakers like the pro's do. It's crap though. I tried turning the glasses upside down too but it's really not very secure. I wonder if the MIPS shell has something to do with it.

Those glasses perches seem useless to me unless you have a sunglasses sponsor or prefer cheap sunglasses. Myself, I need glasses to see where I'm going (no way I'll forget to put them on!). Too much astigmatism for contacts. The glasses have to be on me, not on the helmet. To avoid having to bring more than one pair of glasses, I got Transitions progressive prescription lenses in Ray-Ban frames. One of those things that are so outrageously expensive that you have to erase the cost from your memory. No way I would put them on helmet perches even if I could navigate without them.

I have worn Poc shades a lot. I like the way they look and the lens has good clarity, however the frame ergonomics aren't as good as Oakley for me. They moved on my face more. The Oakley Prizm road lens works very well too. I really rate the Bollé optics, but much prefer the Oakley frames. Mostly for the ladies, probably. Sports bras that you clip your heart rate monitor to. An antidote to jiggly boobs + straps = painful chaffage. Salomon/movesense and shock absorber both make them. The salomon version is my sports bra of choice regardless of this neat feature, very comfortable.

Honestly, I don't like my ASSOS T.Mille S7, the pad seems dig in to my buttocks! I bought a pair because everyone liked them, but if u really think those are comfortable try the RedWhite Bibs it's ALOT more comfortable!

Richard Todd not really, it's the size they recommend after the guide, and the legs fit perfectly.
