Captain America is potentially the comic book character I was least interested in. Some dork who loves America and throws a shield around? No thanks! But as hype was building for The Avengers, I couldn't resist the temptation. And... I LOVED IT!! Now Steve Rogers is potentially my favourite character in all of the MCU. And he absolutely has my favourite comic book trilogy!

I have slowly built up my own ranking for these movies over the years, and love discussing them with anyone who will listen. With the start of a new year, I decided to attempt to break more into CBM youtube with a rewatch, review, and ranking of the entire Infinity Saga! My goal is to have my new definitive ranking by the end of the year.
Check out the rest of my superhero movie and TV show reviews:

My style of reviews attempts to analyze, but also to basically act as a brain dump of nearly everything I liked and disliked in a movie. So yeah, this video is a little long... Hopefully people are willing to sit down for a movie-length video on this trilogy...

Fun fact: The fight choreography in The Winter Soldier was inspired by the movie tie-in game Captain America: Super Soldier.

It has some flaws. But it's still a really special movie, and did a LOT of heavy lifting in making people care about the character.

I just realized that in Endgame they basically do the same thing to Steve & Peggy's relationship that Futurama did in Jurassic Bark/Benders Big Score. Give us the emotional heartbreak in the original, then a few years later give us some closure to the relationship with a time travel semi-retcon.

Winter soldier I think is my over all favorite marvel movie I think. I could sit down and watch it any day, any time. I'll always get enjoyment out of it. (Btw, I think feet in the dash was purely for her safety. And not a rules thing. If that airbag goes off. And in his mind, I mean.. they could be attacked or found any time. Her legs are both broken instantly by airbags.) It helps that Natasha is my favorite character. Followed closely by steve (in the mcu anyway) It still makes me very sad thry moved away from what could have been more interesting parts gor Natasha and bucky. They even hinted at it slightly.. Her pleeding for him to recognize her. If they'd made her thr age she was in many comics. And given yhose teo their secret relationship.. it would have been even better. And more building onto their characters for both winter soldier and civil war. But all in all, they've done a pretty poor job on her. Which is why my preference for her is kind of.. picked and chosen. Bits from the comics, and bits from the MCU. Also, how little we actually get of Bucky's hydra backstory makes how awfully they treated him in the TV show just... I hated it if we're being honest. Also, the whole one step forward, two steps back. Is one of the reasons I hated his ending so so much in Endgame. It felt like such a slap in the face to everything that happened to tall of them. Everything that happened after the first avenger. Everything that Peggy did. Peggy's family. The founding of Sheild, because of Steve. All of it felt super cheap to Mr after that.

Just finished the First Avenger section, saving the rest tomorrow to listen to while I work. Great revisit on this so far! And you have a point, when WAS the last time I watched MIB? As always, I love this series and your perspective on all these films. While its not my favorite film in the MCU as a whole, I still appreciate the First Avenger a ton and feel that it stands out as one of the most unique in the franchise to this very day. The 40's setting does so much for me, especially as both a history buff and with an interest in film history. The contrast between characters like Steve and Tony that you mentioned, does a lot to add to that I think. Looking forward to watching the rest!

That’s the problem you’ve never read his comics. Read Cap 300-350 great stories from red skull to flag smasher to being stripped of C.A. and then getting the mantle back!

Before this video, I felt really strongly about Winter Soldier being my favorite out of the trilogy but you made really good points with the first one being the best. Also, as someone who read the Civil War comic book, you made me hate the movie a little less. Cool video!

Why is it weird to dislike turning The Falcon into Captain America? No-one can fill Steve Roger's shoes...so why not honour him by letting his name and costume be his alone?

Using “freedom” and “the Declaration of Independence” with a tone of voice that indicates they’re bad or something is a bit offensive. Especially since if you don’t like those then you’re cutting the legs off essentially. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution made Steve Rogers who he is, those ideals informed his entire person and he lives them out. It’s hard to have Cap without those documents.

My point is that I'm grateful they did more with the character than making him some 1-dimensional patriot. It would have been so easy to give him no depth beyond those basic ideals. They are very important to his character! But I wouldn't have enjoyed the character or his movies if they didn't back Steve's moral foundations up with more well realized character traits. I'm not saying either of those things are bad, just that a character whose entire personality is "freedom and independence" wouldn't have been nearly as captivating.

Weirdos unwilling to accept The Falcon as Captain America? The dude literally has no superpowers my guy, he is a man with a shield, how could he possibly be Captain America.

I seriously don't understand why they didn't find an excuse to give Sam some form of serum when passing the torch. But it's not like he'll be the first powerless hero, so I'm open to seeing how they handle it in his solo movie.

You had me until you started talking about people who think the winter soldier should have been the next Captain America and not Sam Wilson just because of his race, as weird.
@2leftframes
@2leftframes 8 күн бұрын
I can't recall if/where that is in the video? It's been a minute! But assuming it is in there, I'll stand by that. If people are against Sam taking over as Captain America strictly on the basis of race - they have no leg to stand on.
@nickr6926

@@2leftframes That's my whole point. He was made Captain America solely because of his race. Like almost all virtue signaling these days. The character's merit did not lend to him becoming Captain America.

@@nickr6926 Sam is a kind and good man who volunteers with vets, was loyal to Steve, has specialized combat skills, and had Avengers experience. I'm not sure Mackie's cock-sure attitude will be the best fit for the character? But I'm down to give him a chance. And on the flipside, Bucky didn't want it. That's the single most important part. Beyond that, I don't think the public would be enthusiastic about someone who was brainwashed by the Soviets taking charge. The biggest things in his favor were a history with Steve (which Sam also has), and super solider strength (which is probably his biggest advantage over Sam). Overall, I still think promoting Sam was the right choice.
