I love braids, because for me they're pretty low maintenance. I started braiding my own hair about 8 years ago. It's time very consuming and almost every time I want new braids, I consider paying someone to do it. Then I remember how much people are charging now and how much I'll save by doing it myself. In the last 8 years, I've paid to have my hair done 4 times and spent just over £300 in total. Although still expensive these days, I think UK braiders charge much less than US braiders. The last time was a year ago, I paid around £100 for waist length knotless, thats the most I've ever paid for 1 install.

I paid $350 back in 1999 when freestyle braids first came to Houston real big. Braiding prices came down but did you see her hair thickness and length? That's why it cost so much they have to carefully braid all the way down and it's thick which is harder to do. I have the same amo😢of hair and I am always taxed.

@@TheMariemarie16in 1999 I was paying $100 and my braids were always done to perfection. In bigger cities, they do tax for braids. I'm in Michigan and the prices have gone up but they are still reasonable. At times I was lucky to find women who braid at home as well so the upcharge for the booth rental wasn't added.

@@eleashaeatman Wow, back in the late 90s is when African braiders started opening up in Houston and they got rich off of us because they charged so much. I was working my lil job and spent 2 weeks pay on my head lol but they were using human hair which nobody does anymore and they were telling us that it could last for 3-4 months which it did. That mess ruined the ends of my hair because back then they put little bits of crazy glue on the ends of the human hair knot to keep it from unraveling but it stayed and it looked so good. If your hair was short no problem but mine was so long.

The service was good, and time was excellent with only having one braider on my head, but I had to take out the last 3 rows of braids underneath for some relief😮. So, I will allow the ladies to have that experience whose head and scalp can handle it.

A few years back, I had my hair braided at an African beauty salon! Well, let me tell you this! I was quoted $80 when I called and set up an appointment! I explained how I wanted my braids done and was told $80! I’d agreed and went in the next day! Only took about 3 hours and when the girl was done, she said, “ that’ll be $180, please “! It was a whole $100 more, but my hair was so nicely done and my head was throbbing! Pulled my hair so tight, you would think I had Botox injected in my face, because I couldn’t smile without feeling like my face was gonna crack! Did an excellent job, but too pricey and not a fan of having my hair pulled! So, I never went back! Saving my money and edges… Not paying anyone to destroy the hair on my crown! 👀😳

That's because almost everyone can braid in Ghana I assume 😩. We sometimes struggle to find people that can braid nicely at all, or braid professionally here in Europe. Also the cost of living is getting higher, which also reflects in the prices

Her braids are butt length, they are manually mixing two colors of hair brown and blonde, this style is not as simple as traditional box braids, it is also knotless. This price is about right for these braids. There were two people working on these braids for 5 hours each. That means they could not take any other customers for 5 hours to do her hair. Maybe because she brought her own hair they could have given her a break on the price but this is standard this length and style

I can’t stand how they don’t braid the braids all the way down though. And also some braids are braided differently from others because there’s 2 different people braiding with 2 different braiding styles. Last time I allowed them to do my hair I had scabs in my head from one of them pulling my real hair too tight. It’s a no for me.
