Here is a pretty detailed cut video of a Skyfire CNC SVM-2. This is my first part on my mill after spending the last cough, details to come later days squaring, tramming, and getting the machine properly setup.
Titans of CNC Academy:
academy.titansofcnc.com/catego...
Lots of firsts working on this part:
* First part on this mill (well yah the point of the video)
* First time using an ATC
* First time using Tool offset libraries
* First time doing ridged tapping
* First time NOT using a CNC Router to baby metal and could really get at it
Tools I used:
T1 : Mitsubishi APX3000 2" shell mill - amzn.to/2NNpCkR
T2 : Helical 3/8" 3 flute endmill - www.helicaltool.com
T3 : Melin Tool 1/4" Carbide Drill Mill - amzn.to/2xceNyh
T4 : Mitsubshi MVS 4.5mm drill bit - amzn.to/2xfsGeT
T5: OSG Hy-pro 10-32 UNF, H5, Oxide Finish, Cobalt, Thread Forming Tap (Sorry no link, the only pricing I could find was for 10, and my tooling rep sold me just one so talk to your tooling rep ? )
The part came out great!

Solid performance from the mill. I'm particularly impressed that it can control the spindle rotation precisely enough to tap the holes. Directing the coolant flow seems to be a bit of a pain, but that will improve with experience.

Thanks.. Ridged tapping while not a "requirement" was definitely on my list of reasons I didn't buy a Tormach.. I'll produce that video here in a few weeks... breakdown why I made the choice I did..

Right on man! I'm in the same boat. Hopefully I get my matsuua up n running this week and I can run my titan 1 m

if your getting a matsuua running your playing in a different league than I am.. But then your journey on knifemaking has been pretty awesome to watch on Instagram so props to that :-)

Hi from Barcelona, looking for a cnc right now, space in my shop and single phase are what provably makes me jump from industrial machines to something like you have. I am still not convinced if I should go with Skyfire, Syil or what yet. Little concern with customs and seeing that all you share modifications to the machine, and, not sure I am at that point. Anyway thanks for your videos. And if you could suggest if it is better to go with svm1 or svm2

So I don't have any experience with the SVM 1.. What I can say is that I feel like the SVM 2 (once tuned) is a very capable machine. If you can I would suggest you find out if there is a local distributor for Spain.. If not maybe George from the UK can help you out? Check out the Official Users Group on Facebook, there are a lot of good people there who are eager to help each other get the most out of these machines. One thing to consider when you look at any machine is what kind of work you will be doing. For me it was about buying a capability and an understanding I would be responsible for making it work.. Was that a frustrating choice? yes, yes it was.. But because I am a hobbyist it was likely the right choice.. I hope to do a video in the near future going over my Skyfire story and explaining why I made the decisions I did.. Maybe you will find that video useful when I publish it.

Hello, do you have ant contact to Skyfire CNC?

An air run is actually called a dry run. Is here any way you can improve the machine homing accuracy? Did you talk about the issue with support from Skyfire? I think this kind of repeatability issue is totally innacceptable for such machine. A .0005'' difference should be what to expect from such machine, not less!! You want the best out of it!! Do'nt you? Your hard taping did well! I hope to see more such videos from you in the near future. Thanks for posting.

The limit and home switches the Skyfire uses are all induction switches they are good for about .04mm repeatability.. There is some talk on the forums that we can pull a signal from the servos and use the induction sensor as the start of a search for a specific step signal from the servos.. That would be +/- backlash or 1 step..... (which is ~.001mm). However, we are not 100% sure that the Adtech 4650 controller can use the step signal from the servo... (we do know that the firmware has support, just not sure if the hardware has the input). But yes, I would LOVE to be able to turn on the machine and not have to probe around to know its in the right place each time.

Thanks for pushing me on this.. I've been digging more into this and there is no way servo based zeroing shouldn't be an option.. I have confirmed the servo driver is sending the signal, and that the CNC Controller is hearing the signal.. there are some configurations that need to be just right for the controller to home properly with the Z pulse information.. But it looks like its doing that now.. Should have +/- a few pulses (.001mm) once I get the controller configuration correct :-).

I did. Though I know Fusion pretty, when I do these I follow Titans videos Incase there are tricks I don’t know.

I have a post that I one of the others in the community wrote based on the fanuc.. I have updated it for my 4650 and 9960 controllers you can find them here: github.com/Skyfire-community/SVM

So these machines are cheap to own and operate, they run on single phase power and they cut really nicely. So what's the catch here?

@desertsoul02 is correct the controller is painful... I am actually replacing mine now.. Also support is a small spunky band of people on Facebook, Skyfire support is virtually non-exinsistant.. If I had the $$$$ to do this again, I would probably either buy a dry frame and build from scratch (because at this point I am almost doing that) OR I would go used HAAS Minimill or TM... I mean at the time it was the right call given the market and that Tormach was officially still saying "we will never do servos".. But the market has changed.. I am also curious what Titan has cooking with Doosan, will hear more about that next week I guess.

How much did the skyfire cost?
@HandsonCNC
@HandsonCNC 3 жыл бұрын
I think it was about $25k when I bought it back in 2018... But I am not sure Skyfire is still around.. and delivery was SUPER slow... Unless you like waiting, and you like tinkering on a machine, I would get a Tormach 770MX, 1100MX, Syil, or used mini-mill for the money..

I only have one problem with your video . And it's over your willingness to open the door, while the tool is both running, and cutting. To Adjust your coolant position. You're really taking some huge risk each time ..
