I did it! Built my first engine from top to bottom! I decided to go with a 6.0L LS block and hop up the engine with some good cylinder heads, a lope-y camshaft, and flat top pistons. Thank you to my amazing boyfriend Danny for guiding me through the build and letting me do all the work myself. I know it wasn’t easy for him to sit back and watch. I have learned SO much throughout this process and I know my next engine build will be even bigger & better!
Thank you to these companies for getting on board with my engine build:
AIR FLOW RESEARCH www.airflowresearch.com
CP CARILLO www.cp-carrillo.com
GRANATELLI MOTORSPORTS granatellimotorsports.com
HOLLEY PERFORMANCE www.holley.com
Major thank you to Dustin Lee Racing Engines for all the phone calls, engine discussions, machine work and parts! Go subscribe to him on KZfaq for the best engine content: / @dustinlee5566

I see a few comments claiming there’s no assembly lube on the main bearings… we used lucas assembly lube (very clear with light green tint) and I promise they are COATED! 👍

Your going to have yours done before I get mine done but as soon as I get mine done I’ll make a road trip out to Cali. We can meet at the local dragstrip. Have a little grudge match. Remember I’m doing mine old school a monster big block pontiac with three twos on it and trying to get my hands on a 421 that’s reasonable we’ll see promise you it won’t be stock hahahaha it will give you guys time to get yours dialed in

I know you said this wasn't a how-to video, but for someone who would also like to build their own engine except I don't have a shop or the tools or someone to guide me 😆 this felt like a how-to. Madd respect my girl! Keep on wrenchin'

Next time, install the cam before the crank with block upside down. You can reach in and guide the cam without all the bumps. Old Time trick I used for years.

Long bolt or threaded rod screwed into the cam gives you as much leverage as needed with crank installed and dont need to finger it thru the bearings from the bottom too lol

@@richardcoleman9645 understood but a straight rod is a lot more simplistic for a novice than that speed handle, my 8yr old neice installed my cam with an 18” piece of tubing over a piece of threaded rod....leverage is awesome

You will always remember your first. It's a good feeling you get while driving down the road knowing you built it's engine. Never rush, Double check measurements, and torque specs, if not sure about something Stop, find the answer, then proceed, and very important Keep everything CLEAN. ( A tip ) Try not to yank on the torque wrench setting your torque. Even pull from start til it clicks. Fantastic job!

File fitting rings sucks SO bad. That was literally a full day in the garage doing mine. Cam bearings weren't too bad once I realized what the 2nd set of bands was for in the kit. I thought they were replacements until I rolled the edge of 1. So now I have an extra practice set to let people learn lol. Trunions, I bought the comp cams tool. It's pretty easy to set them up, snap ring is the hardest part with the tools

This is your engine now, you didn't buy it you built it! You did everything right, you did the research on a combination that will work as a daily driver on the street. That alone is not an easy task. You took care of the known weak link flaws of the LS, ARP head bolts, trunion upgrade, 4th gen rods. You did great! Hope you're hooked now?

It's too late but the Brian tooley racing shaft rocker conversion only requires pressing in the bearings initially...you add the clip to the shaft first(easier to handle..more material to grab ahold of) then slide on the rocker, then pin it with the other c-clip. Look them up for future builds..was $309...a steal for what it is/does
