@@gokuss15 my take on that was that it was a meta commentary on the different levels religion operates on. The “real” Jesus of the South Park universe is a super hero and social commentator who actively helps people in the world, while the “imaginary” Jesus is a sword wielding mythopoetic hero archetype who inspires people to fight evil. The reason of there being bunnies of Easter is because they moved the holiday to the same one as a Pagan holiday called Ostara so they could convert more people who didn’t want to give up the holiday. Ostara has bunnies because it’s a celebration of fertility and new life. They also did the same thing with Christmas and Yule. This also effectively means that we don’t really know the days of Christ’s birth and resurrection because of these shenanigans.

It is widely considred bad taste for anybody to depict him, regardless of whether they ae Muslim or an Infidel (the rest of us). As of the thing with the French cartoonist and Matt & Trey receiving death threats from extremists, it's now that nobody is allowed to show any depiction, on pain of death (regardless of whether the Quran actuall states that the punishment for this particular rule being broken should be death, because extremists always interpret exceptions to the rules about killing in their holy texts).

Islam is an iconoclastic religion that doesn't desire to depict the prophet Muhammad at all, especially for religious veneration. The opposite of this is idolatric religions like Christianity and Hinduism, who depict images of holy figures especially for religious veneration. So you can imagine that depicting Muhammad to basically degrade Muslims for the fact that Islam is touchy about depicting religious figures isn't gonna go over well.

But as I said that's a sliver of islam, calling such idiots representative of islam is like calling the Klan representative of Christianity. the real reason we accept such prohibitions is that we have caved to socio-political terrorism on a global scale. You can call Trump a racist, you can make a compilation of Biden sniffing little girls, you can sleep with my mom and I can cuckold your dad...but draw a picture of a wife beating pedophile who started a religion centered around patriarchal hedonism....and some rando cultist across the world will track you down and suicide bomb you in belief that it will get him a fast pass to a version of heaven that indulges all his worldly desires.

An iportant thing to remember is that there's more than one kind of sandal. There's the modern flip-flop, but there's also those old ones used by the likes of the Greeks and Romans that fit tighter, with more bands to help it stay in place and depending on the purpose having some strips that tie onto the calf, ensuring that it can't just slip off. Modern people in most Western nations view the sandal as casual summerwear but a few thousand years ago it was the best you had at a reasonable price and even later full shoes were often wood based, resulting in plenty of sore feet and poor performance over long distances (rubber soles are something from the past couple hundred years I think and before that you made do with the materials available).

For an explanation on easter, at least from what I've heard from a few churches, is that the eggs are supposed to symbolise new life, along with the resurection. But there were a few similair practices to easter in other countries, some even older, just as there were of christmas, but aren't the same holiday as people claim. However most holidays at the time, adapted from each other, to add new things to said events. they were not "stolen"
@CitruKori

To add onto this, I think the bunnies were a pagan symbol of fertility, symbolizing the new life spring brings The eggs were originally a German tradition that the church adopted when they converted the pagans Germans still paint eggs and decorate them, covering fountains and town centers with them (search it up, it’s very cool) I’m pretty sure that’s the reasoning

The rabbits and eggs in Easter, and even the name of the holiday date back to pagan Babylonian tradition. The same with Christmas and a bunch of other festivals. They were all pagan celebrations that hijacked Christian tradition. This is why I do not follow the modern holidays as they are just pagan festivals with a thin veneer of Christianity over the top.

Easter was originally a festival about sex and fertility, hence the eggs and rabbits. @@Shimmering_rain No, there are several gods who are born of a supernatural father and virgin human mother, tell their followers to eat bread, as that is their flesh, and drink wine, for that is their blood, who then die for the sins of humanity and are resurrected 3 days later. Osiris, Dionysus, Mithras, both Augustus and Julius Cesar of Rome, and more. Jesus is just a hebrew adaptation of these other gods. It's rather fascinating watching the evolution of Osiris to Jesus. And then power-hungry jerks heard the story of Jesus, claimed to be the kids of the unnamed disciples, and changed it from a religion of learning to a religion of ignorance, which is why Rome made it the state religion. It made their citizens docile and just accept whatever the government says, instead of the other religions at the time which encouraged asking questions and rebelling against tyrants.

If you want to know about Easter, it’s actually a pagan tradition stolen/borrowed by Christianity just like Christmas/Yule. Bunnies and eggs are symbols of fertility and rebirth. Easter was a a celebration of making it through the rough winters. And a ceremony of blessing the good goddess for her gifts, and for allowing the rebirth of the land for each year. Also funny little titbit, Jesus/the story of Jesus can actually be read as a metaphor/guide for the actual sun. Which I find very poetic.

They weren't necessarily too offensive. Comedy central did pull them from schedule, because they depicted Mohammed (and there was a huge debate back then after Muslim extremists bombed the French caricaturists at Charlie Hebdo iirc). Because of that and comedy central feared the same, they pulled the episodes and every episode before, that had Mohammed depicted. The super best friends episode for example isn't available for legal streaming. Mat and Trey obviously didn't like it and doubled down with this huge censor bar and made the whole episode about the power of not being depicted in media

About Nux's Comment on Judaism: This is a rant and probably not very interesting if you don't care about the nuances of Judaism. That said, I'd hope at least Nux will read it. Judaism isn't a monolithic institution with a single ideology, but rather a large grouping with many branches having varying opinions. That said, Jewish religion, philosophy, and holy law ostensibly don't discuss or care much for Satan or any demonic entity, openly advising against messing with the subject. Judaic traditionalists and philosophers stick to rational theology(finding logical arguments and practical and scientific interpretations for the holy laws and scriptures), and strictly treat Satan and other demonic entities as purely metaphorical, with the very concept of evil they represent being an abstract. Even what Satan is is a topic of debate within some circles, as the aforementioned see him as a scarcely mentioned metaphor or representation of evil, while the Talmud(primary text for Jewish law) sees him as physical entity, namely an angel of death and an agent of god(as you mentioned). That said, this interpretation is rarely taken as literal, and most just mention it in the sense of "if you want to take this clearly metaphorical text literally(and in the process miss the millennia of philosophical rabbinical debate and Jewish tradition of textual analysis and questioning born from it), then Satan is an angel of death and agent of god." Interpretation aside, the consensus outside of Jewish mystics (kabbalah) is just to leave those subjects be, and that the supernatural isn't something men should dabble with, with the tale of King Saul's suicide and the death of his son's being about how it is unwise to search for contact with the spirits. The reason for this refusal to delve into spiritualism and the supernatural doesn't just come from a religious stand point, however, but also from a pragmatic one, in which opening yourself up to mysticism gives those who want to take advantage of you a clear path to do so, by using your fears and insecurities, and giving you a clear enemy to hate(think fear mongering, con artists, or the church). With all this said, while Satan was created within Judaism, it is left mostly untouched as a concept and only really explored by the bible and its subsequent apocryphal works. Whether it be for religious or scholarly studies, almost no one brings ANY demonic entity up, because its both largely unimportant for Jewish culture and unwise from a spiritual and practical stand-point. I know how much I'm repeating myself, but I can't stress this enough- Judaism largely doesn't care for Satan or any demonic entities. They're usually only mentioned as a metaphor for evil(and even then its almost NEVER brought up), and spiritually it is said as something you shouldn't touch or bring up if you can(In the sense that you don't call out a name unless you hope for an answer). So before you say "Judaism says such and such" at least put a disclaimer that it refers to what you were taught by orthodox(religious and take the Torah literally) rabbis, as most Jews are secular or otherwise don't take the Tora/Talmud/etc literally, and it gives the incorrect impression that Judaism is only a single, clear cut religion, rather than a culture and people's with varying backgrounds and groups that it actually is. Saying that we think Satan is this or that misses the point that Torah is more than some dogmatic storybook made to make people fall in line through fear like the bible and its offshoots are, but rather the culmination of millennia of philosophy and culture developed while we travelled the globe, all with the purpose of improve our understanding and quality of life, and to spread that knowledge to the subsequent generations in the most efficient way possible.

Your description of the Jewish Satan, makes SO much more sense than the Christian one [considering the Angels aren't meant to have free will, and God is meant to be all powerful and omnipotent.... so HOW exactly did Satan lead a rebellion?]

It really doesnt. Satan means adversary. He was being and adversary to God and his people. God tempts no one. Why would he make his angels tempt people? That would be the same as himself tempting them.

If i remember isn’t easter inspired by pagan rituals? Like rabbits for reproduction, chocolate for natural aphrodisiacs, and eggs for birth?

Easter was originally a fertility holiday. The rabbit is one of the symbols of fertility and the eggs are the symbol for new life. Jesus's resurrection is just said to happen at the same time, like his birth, to be able to change an existing pagan holiday into a Christian one.

For context, Easter was created in order to take the place of a pagan holiday commonly celebrated during the same time. Rabbits, the eggs and the act of collecting them were all kept in order to attempt to convince pagans that the holiday was the same as it always been, but they simply changed the "meaning" of the holiday from a time of fertility and the coming spring to the resurrection of Christ. I am pagan and I do not agree with this act at all.

In Christianity good and evil are not two sides of the same coin, nor there is a balance between good and evil like Ying and Yang. Good is straight up how things should be and evil is the distortion of it (literally best way to understand it is by watching LOTR), Satan couldn't ever serve God by tempting people because free will is restricted by sin and not the other way around. Hope it helped to clarify things to you Nux.

Easter was a germanic celebration of fetility, thats where you get the eggs and rabbits from, because you know things hatch from eggs and rabbits do it a lot. Decorating the eggs may stem from miximg cultures like the Sorben. But of course christianity had different ideas with age old Holidays. The name likely orignated from a fertility goddess named "ostara" and ost/osten is German for east

10:59 I can explain it to you Nux. Easter as it exists today is an amalgam of the original Holy Week of Easter from Catholicism, and a number of subsequent pagan holidays that were brought into the faith to help convert pagans throughout history. Today, the eggs represent new life, that is, Jesus rising from the dead (the actual spiritual point of Easter Sunday) with the bright colors representing spring and new life. This concept is actually pagan in nature but no less fits well in the narrative motif. The rabbit could symbolize prolific or fruitful offspring, though it’s probably just a cute mascot chosen by corporate America of the early 20th century. Hissing the eggs is just a fun activity for children, resulting in a holiday that, like Christmas, spiritually means very little aside from separating Americans from the money in their wallets. If you want true, spiritual Easter you’d need to look closer to Rome and Russia where Catholicism and Orthodox Christians worship.

There's various reasons for Easter being... Easter. Easter takes place in Spring, because the end of winter and the beginning of spring represents Christ coming out of the darkness of the cave. The rabbits are attached to the holiday for their relation to spring, and the aforementioned metaphor. Eggs have a place in Easter traditions cause early Christians (and most denominations of Christianity prior to the reformation) abstained from eating meat and eggs through lent. Historically, during this period Christians would hardboil their eggs throughout this period to keep them good, and then break their Easter fast with the accumulated hardboiled eggs. The painting is just cause color is cool.

So if you haven't already, looking up "Easter original reason" something should pop up about Pagans and their love of nature. Christmas and Easter are actually holidays that Christians took and made their own. Easter celebrates spring in the Northern hemisphere, and represents fertility. The eggs and rabbit are all symbols. Dying the eggs shell symbolizes magic and the transformation the earth will go through during the season. Christmas is another holiday that has tons in common with pagan celebrations for the winter solstice. This includes traditions of the tree and stockings.
