Indeed! I didn't thin much of it in the beginning but when I realized the most of my work will be saved mostly by photos, I cherish these a bit more. Even thought they're not my crown works, it's still something that it's going to be here no matter what.

Your'e so humble! And a too critical of your work, but I know that's because you are a perfectionist! ;) I have learned SO MUCH from your channel!! I really hope you'll keep posting videos for a long time! I feel like I have the confidence to try to make my own journal from watching your videos and doing my own research. I would have never thought of doing this a year ago, until I discovered people like you! It's such a beautiful craft, and I'm really excited to try it one day soon! God Bless, from Texas, USA!!

I've seen a lot of book binders on KZfaq. Most of them do things to books that upset me for the sake of the books. They use saws. They make fake bangs for "astedic purposes". some of them glorify digital media as beter a better alternative to books and put holes next to the spine. This guy does it better than I could ask. He even attaches the bands to the board. The only things I don't like is how he put solids metal on some of them which makes it have to be stored away from the other books to make sure it doesn't strap other books, and his officiant method of constructing the end bands. They would be more useful if he threaded them through each signature. They're supposed to protect the spine from getting slowly ripped off while being pulled off the shelf. I hope I can be as good at this as he is someday.

I don't know why I'm just now seeing this, but I thought to comment anyway. Your channel has been one of the most inspiring that I follow, and as someone who struggles with depression, the energy you put into this beautiful art is very much a highlight of my day. I am a bit of an amateur with bookbinding, and I have a hand deformity, so it's a bit of a struggle, but I always come back to your videos for inspiration and a good smile, thank you so much for this amazing content, and for showing your journey of creating!!

Wishing you favorable winds in your struggle with the traps of the mind as well.Thank you again!

i made my first 'book' when I was about 15. it was a whopping 2 signatures thick, but I was so proud. its been 10 years since then, and i've still not got to a point where i feel confident selling my books, and my skills are not where i'd like them to be (mostly because i'm really broke so i've only just been able to buy certain tools this past year), but your videos give me confidence that one day I can get there

Thank you as well for the kind words! I dream of the future as well, I want to see a book made by me in 20 years but it's hard to imagine, haha. You are very harsh on yourself and with your work. Nobody makes anything flawless, it will never be perfect because we're constantly changing and improving. We can only be the best that we can be in that time. Seeing your old works made realise how much I give up on doing something because I project myself in the work of someone that does this for soo many years (not bookbinding in my case, but you helped me realise this anyway), trying to be THAT good, but I'm a feel steps behind, and that's ok, it's my journey. Your's is amazing, keep doing this, keep getting better, but don't be too harsh.

Thank you for producing this fascinating record of your journey! By the way, I laughed myself off my chair when you said that you once threw a book across the room in frustration. I had done that myself a few days ago after I ruined an endpaper paste-down. You're not alone, brother! A suggestion for future content: almost no one on KZfaq is a certified master bookbinder, and fewer still, are master-level tutorials. I think many of us would be keenly interested to see you produce such a series.
@Stopan
@Stopan 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for reaching out! I really appreciate you sharing these thoughts! I'm really cautious when it comes to tutorials. You see, I'm still not the pillar of knowledge I want to be and I've proven to myself one too many times that I do many things improperly. I've seen people emulate my mistakes from the earlier videos I've posted and basically learning things the wrong way. It pains me to see that because I feel like a fraud. I know people will be interested but I'm still not convinced it's time. I'll probably start out by talking and showing some specific techniques or recipes but it is my belief that the proper way to teach would be face to face in an apprenticeship type experience. I'm currently doing my best to reformat and make available all of the great handbooks that I've learned from and sleep well knowing that they're written by the experts in the field. You can see the first ones here: www.etsy.com/shop/HouseOfStopan?section_id=26682323 They are some bookbinders on KZfaq that share very good techniques and knowledge, albeit some of their videos not being in the upmost quality. For now, I think it will be most truthful for me to serve mostly as an inspiration, throwing in a bit of advice here and there, rather to be considered a teacher. I hope some of this made some sense. Again, thank you for watching and staying in touch!

I have a lot of mistakes that I’ve made in watercolor painting and I keep them because I learned a lot from those mistakes. This was an incredible video. I loved seeing your first journal and your last. But I can’t imagine throwing a painting done on watercolor cotton paper against the wall so I try to keep my anger under control, no matter how frustrated I get with mistakes. Stopan Tjanks for the reply. I am honored. I hope you didn’t think I was disapproving of your actions. I have a strange sense of humor and so I made a hopefully playful comment.
