Hi Marly I am a beginner knitter and came across your video looking for help. Wow knitting can be intimidating but also can be fun. | tried doing what you suggested on your part 1 video but not successful. I think the yarn I used and the size needle created a problem. I am learning that yarns are not all equal in consistency as far as getting the proper gauge and outcome.. After several attempts and changing yarn I am now able to manage knitting my first sock; it was not without much trial and error and ripping back. I tried a few different yarns and I finally found one that I was able to manage. The knitting needles are also an aspect. I do like the bamboo ones but for some reason this time they didn't work as easily so I used the metal ones and that worked much better. I will follow the rest of your videos to learn the whole technique. Thank you so much for providing these tutorials. I would like to converse with you if possible through my e-mail which is jeade63@gmail.com. Jeannine

Of all the tutorials I’ve followed for using dpns, not one has suggested to divide the stitches and join while needles are positioned flat on a surface. Once again, you’ve demonstrated your genius as a hand-crafter and facilitated a skill once thought as difficult. Thank you!

I picked up knitting during the COVID19 shutdown. I figured out basic knitting and pulling, made a scarf and ventured to DPNs to make a hat. Then I saw this series about socks. Watched all 6 videos. You convinced me I could do this ! You're an amazing teacher! I made one sock (a prototype) with acrylic yarn I have around. With your videos, I'm ready to try making socks with actual sock yarn! Thanks for these videos! I smashed the like button on all of them!

Girl! I wish I had found your video last week. That lifeline tip could have saved me. Instead I unraveled from the heel flap and re-rolled it all to the ball of yarn. Your instructions are so clear and precise, from the no cuss cast on to the Knit 3 for picking up gusset stitches. Clearly the best sock video out there. If anyone is reading this and wants to knit socks, THIS IS YOUR VIDEO SERIES.

Thank you, MarlyBird. I've been teaching myself (from online resources). This video has been very helpful getting me started on my first pair of socks. Who knew that I was knitting inside out? I only had to restart 3 times. It definitely pays to pay attention to details when you start.

Marly, that stitch marker part is absolutely stunning! I've accidentally knit inside out before after setting the work down and not knowing which direction was which (causing the project to have to be restarted). Making sure the stitch marker is on the outside of the work is an absolutely brilliant way to prevent that. Thank you so much!

My first practice socks were on cheap metal dp needles. In my inexperience, they were a pain in the butt. I bought a package of tiny hair rubber bands and kept one one each end to keep the yarn from slipping off. Someone suggested using bamboo needles and I was ecstatic with the difference. The yarn stays place so much better. No rubber bands any more 😊
