I think I got mine in 1986 or 85 too, I was about 5 or 6 years old at the time. Just finished setting it up. My grandmother gave it to me, so many memories.

This just goes to show how reliable LGB really is. My grandparents have that exact same set, except with two add on cars, a dining car, and a white caboose

Great video! WOW a great color video camera in 1986...and a brand new LGB set....!!! My Dad bought a LGB set just like this one except with freight cars in 1988....I was 20 and at first I thought it was a complete waste of money. Then I felt the Stainz how heavy, with quality metal drive rods, and the track!! German made brass rails...wow!! I became hooked ever since....

Got our around 1986 also and yes it still runs. It has traveled from Montana to California to Nevada. Have an amazing LGB store in Reno Nevada, btw.

We got the exact same set in ‘79 and still goes like new. We add something every year. Love seeing the circus cars! They were our second addition.

Got my first H0 starter set when i was 4, but before that i played with my dad's model trains. And then when i was 8, i got a G scale starter set!

My first electric train set was LGB's D&RGW Stainz set. And right now with her powered tender she's been rebuilt into my Ash Valley Railroad and still runnign today with a complete DCC/Sound and Smoke unit installed using the jumpers to keep it all working. Bulletproof man, I get it.

I have the exact same LGB kit (Green loco, red and blue cars) but mine is from 1989. Just pulled it back down from my parents house and am starting a layout build with my son (3yr old).

I got my first LGB train set when I was 14. Got it back in 1999. Except it's the 30th Anniversary Starter set. I still have it to this very day and it still runs like it's brand new. That is the high quality of LGB is that they will last and last.

My first train set was from hornby it was OO gauge and it was called the permanent way it came with an n2 condenser tank engine in late br black a generic reds box van a full brake down crane set up and a red and black lner brake coach unfortunately owing to me being 13 when I got it I sold it off when I was 16 as i didn’t use it as much anymore but I have recreated it

My parents have the exact same one. The transformer died this last Christmas so I am getting another one soon. I have till Christmas of this year to get one. No rush to get one...lol

After the coming nuclear holocaust imposed upon us by Russia, the only things left on Earth that will be in any degree operational will be LGB trains. 🤣 Anyway, this is my second set. My first was the old western freight, with the grey D&RGW version of your green 2017D, the gondola car with the cardboard pallet load (yeah that cardboard load is LONG gone) and the black D&RGW woodside bobber caboose. I was so young when I got it that I actually can't remember not having it. Yeah. One of these days I'm gonna get the identical red caboose. And a grey/white stripe power tender to go with the loco. And a 2017D set. And I just bought the 21211 Stainz I always wanted. The one with the red pinstripes on the cab and the all-black frame, that looks much more like the prototype than the regular plain green cab/black boiler/red frame Stainz like you see here. Now I can do Stainz doubleheaders! Muhahahahahaha. The sad thing is I went basically 20 years with zero interest in it. My dad had anger issues back in the day and any time something went even remotely wrong with the trains and it was the least bit my fault, it was a full-scale Chernobyl in my house. And that was often because let's face it, I was a ham fisted idiot back then (and frankly still am 🤣) Really ruined it all for me for that 20 years. But this year I've finally managed to let the past be the past and move on, and now I'm interested again.

2020 is when I got my train set

The big toy for me getting for Christmas was Voltron! Those die cast lions did not want to survive! It broke. Mom took it back to the store, but apparently couldn’t get another (I’m guessing). Next year I ask for Voltron again! Indeed I got Voltron! The vehicle force! Back the store at Santa’s workshop! Come aaaaagain, third times the charm, I ask for Voltron! I get the right Voltron, aaaaand it promptly breaks in child hands again! (Away again it went, never to be seen again) I have a reproduction run version on my shelf now, but jeeez that was the series of tease birthday gifts of a lifetime!!! Luckily it cemented my love for Voltron, and later informed me on Power Rangers when it appeared! I don’t know what happened to my original tmnt first run turtles, when the line began, what happened to them. But years later in a Salvation Army I found perfectly boxed reproductions of those original figures (and this was wayyyy before reproductions of those figures was a common thing to bring to shelves.) I have them safely tucked away. Might bring them out now that I think on it

My first train was made of plastic but didn't last long. It came with a circle track and ran off 2 AA batteries. By the way will you pass that train to your son in the future. I hope Bruno junior will play nice and not destroy all his toys.
