Should my parents have educated me about periods, or was I still too young back then?

I got mine while the teacher was explaining to all the girls what a period was 🤭

I got it on my Birthday,and whenever I tell my female friends about they say "what a 'great' birthday gift "😂

Mine wasn't as crazy but I went to the bathroom on April fools, and i yelled "Mom? I started my period.." and she said she started to freak out only for me to yell "April Fools!!!" Two days later it wasn't April fools no more.

I was at a sleepover, luckily it was my friends mum who saw it and she asked if I wanted to go home, or if I wanted to stay and use a pad, being the stubborn person I am, I stayed and had the best night ever

mine came much later- I just turned 15 💀 luckily it was in lockdown though so I was safely at home 😭

This was oddly comforting and reliving. Mine started as well when I was 9 and my parents just said I was sick. It was a nightmare

I’m not really good at reacting to things so when I got my period I was like “ oh… there’s blood coming out of where the light Does not shine, mom! I’m dying !”

I got mine at home, and pretty much knew what to do (my mom taught me like- everything about it that year cus she thought i was gonna get it, as well as how to use the products, she bought those for me and put them in a small part of my closet) so i just found out, cleaned up, and basically waited until my mom got home and hit her with the "oh yeah also i'm on my period" with a calm expression

I really wanted my sister to go swimming with me when I was 7 and she was 14. She kept on saying she couldn’t but I got really upset and kept asking why but she didn’t answer. Eventually she told me she had her period and couldn’t go so I screamed at her because I thought she was making up something ( I mean I was 7😅) but my mom came in and said it was true but they didn’t tell the whole education about it and stuff

I got mine at like 10. I read all these books on self care and looked up things I was curious about on the internet a lot, so I knew what it was. Although, I have social anxiety and I was too nervous to tell my mom, so I just stuffed some toilet paper there and never said a word. Weirdly enough, my period like disappeared after that, it came back a couple months later and did the same thing. Eventually when I started getting it regularly I had to tell my mom.

I was 10 and I had recently learned about periods and I used the bathroom, got up to wash my hands, looked in the toilet and saw a LOT of blood. I quickly wiped and washed my hands and told my poor dad I had gotten my first period. (He was helping my brother who was crying because he fell down the stairs) and I felt light headed and shakey. A couple days later they made me a small strawberry cake and we ate it together. I love them. Also I don't know if it's just me or did anyone else become less scared of blood after they got used to their period?

Mine was so chill, I got it on the sofa, at home, and on the weekends 😮‍💨 The funniest part I recall looking back, is that I asked my mum, "When does it stop?" and she told me, "Oh, it'll stop in like, a week," and I thought she meant that it would stop COMPLETELY in a week and I celebrated until she corrected herself and life dawned on me all at once ahaha...

I was 12 and had known for a while that I’d be getting it soon. My mom gave me these light pads that I wore everyday just in case. I knew I got period during a Passover Seder when I left to use the bathroom. Luckily I didn’t have an embarrassing period story like so many I’ve heard.

heres my first period story,it was around march and i was about to go somewhere my period started a few days before but i never thought about it and thought it was something dirty on my underwear,the next day i was at the airport my pants where white so the blood was shown i tried my best to make it not look like i js shit myself at the airplane i was sotting down dead ass worried my random stain could stain the airplane seat and ofc it did,my dad was sitting next to me and he told my mom that i got my period,my mom took me to the baghroom and gave me pads my underwear and pants were still stained but i was able to change them when we reached our destination(i feel bad for the airplane seat i stained on 😭)

I was at school and I felt really tired than usual.then when I when to the bathroom I saw little blood stains in my jeans.luckily my best friend came to the bathroom that time and I said her that I started my period.she knows everything about period so,you know It's so lucky to have a best friend.Even she hasn't started her first period yet.

Okay so I was nine too. But my mom had told me about it the year prior- I realized while going to the bathroom and it wasn't too big of a deal. Minus the fact I didn't tell anyone for 2 years and just used a bunch of toilet paper as pads.

Actually...mine was kinda dumb 😅 long story short, I didn't know it was period until 3 days it started and on the third day I saw this weird thing keep happening, I called my mum and she said: "Oh! You got your period!" And I was like: "my what?" 😳 it was the only one painless tho 🥺😭

1st when I had my periods.....I never told anyone I was so scared to death.....I didn't even knew how to use a sanitary napkin n I'd no idea about it. But I was able to hide it.... sitting in the wash room for hours saying that I've an upset tummy 😂 But a month later when I had it again my elder sister caught me crying in the corner with blood all over my pants. I was 18 when I got my first period it was a school and I had just went to the bathroom before lunch and my dad came in there and called my mom and she took me to her house to get washed up and taught me everything about my periods

I got mine right before PE and found out during the time we were all getting dressed. I begged a friend for a pad and she had one. I didn’t know you’re supposed to change it periodically and that I had to go to a graduation party that day 😂. Long story short it turned a really gross color, I told my mom and she let me know you’re supposed to change it; so I did. Then my dad yelled “you’re a woman now!” And was crying. 😂

My period story: I was 9 years old. I’d just finished school for the day. I needed to go number 2 so I went to the schools bathroom and that’s when I saw red in my… Um… What are they called in English? Underwear? Okay. Anyway… I never learned that you’re supposed to be ashamed of your period until we had the birds and bees talk in school. My mom was a feminist and she teached me about periods when I was very young. She was a great mom! That’s why when I got my period, I didn’t panic or anything. I just took some toilet paper and used them as a pad until I got home and I told my mom that I was now old enough to get my allowance. She was so proud!

I have a Filipino grandma and she would tell me that if I have my period to let her know and no one else, I came home from a big test and I didn’t notice that I was bleeding (period) so I ran to her and she told me to go to the bathroom and take off my (Underwear) and put pads on. After I did she took my underwear and washed the blood off and gave it back to me telling me to RUB it on my face in the backyard in front of the sun so I wouldn’t get pimples. Pretty weird...

I started my period at about 8 or 9 while my oldest sister was in the hospital... So I started it at the hospital and I was pretty freaked out about seeing the blood lol. Thankfully, since we were in public my mom was with me and she figured out it was just a period... My first period, I knew what they were but my blood was brown So I assumed I pooped myself, and I kept wiping and wiping till I was to lazy and showered then for days I thought, I was pooping myself till my mom saw my underwear and told me it was my period 💀

Oh mine wasn’t as bad I don’t think, but it wasn’t exactly exciting either. I was a a rental beach house, ten hours away from home. I was in the house’s pool swimming, and when I got out to change, I noticed I had bled IN MY SWIMSUIT, IN A STRANGER’S POOL. What made it worse was my parents weren’t there. Just my aunts and uncles. So yeah that was exciting

I remember explaining what a period is to my niece (because one of her best friends had already gotten hers) and showing her a video on how period starts and some discussions about fertility and a female's reproductive system and etc (I'm a nurse so she thought of asking me) Then lo and behold just a few months after our talk it was her 12th bday, and just weeks after that she got her period and she wasn't scared and freaked out at all.. She just walked straight to her mom and told her about it and got herself cleaned up and with pads. I'm glad we were able to have that discussion and that when she had it she was just waking up to get ready for school.

Well I had mine when I accidentally scratched my self down there then I went to the restroom about a hour later and it burn when I peed and I realized Im bleeding to much from a cut and I know it's not my period so I call my mom and she's like yesaaaah that's your period and I'm bummed out

My 1st period. 12 years old and at a middle school band ratings competition. I had started it the night before but my mom was like “oh it’s your first one, those aren’t so bad.” She then gave me a thin pad. Throughout the night I bled all over my bedsheets and still she was insisting that I was over reacting. I went to the band competition soaking through pad, undies, the shorts we had to wear under the band pants…AND THE WHITE BAND PANTS! I even bled through the chair. I ran to the bathroom and cried hysterically and tried to call my mom at work but her manager told me that she was busy and couldn’t get me. I had to wear those soaked garments all day and no one could help me.

Mine felt scary.. I got it at night luckily but the night before I had a horrible feeling like something was going to go wrong and I didn’t know what and I thought something was going to take or hurt my little brother bc he fell asleep in the living room close to the front door. I was 13 and my mom wasn’t home. I had a panic attack thinking something was going to hurt him and texted my friends crying bc of the bad feeling I had. It wasn’t physical it was a mental thing. It turned out in the morning just being my period and I was ok and so was my little brother 😊
