Yep…me too with orange handles. I finally tracked down a truck by asking a friend at a car dealer shop when the Snapon truck came by. I carry my LN46ACF pliers every day and slip on a small piece of plastic tubing on the end to keep from tearing a hole in my pocket as the end is a bit pointy. A good fidget tool for one handed operation. It’s Doc’s fault…he led me down this path.

I got the 9" LN47ACF. First Snap-On purchase for me as well. I love em. Working as an electrical apprentice doing commercial install. Close em up and you can use em as an EMT pipe reamer. Open em up and they can deburr/ream the outside of a 3/4" or 1" pipe, and they're perfect for snapping shut the bang-on style pipe supports. First thing I did with them, tho, was pop the hood on my ram and used em to pull back the hose clamp on the ~2" coolant line. First thing I noticed about them is that when you close them up on the narrowest setting, you can actually see the teeth from both sides interlock perfectly...so you know they bite the snot out of whatever you're trying to grab. They've basically replaced the needle nose pliers in my EDC tool kit. They're great.

@@MORGANSMaintenancethe snap on pliers are reasonably priced compared to other premium plier brands because... well they have to actually compete with Knipex and the like which are also often sold on tool trucks. Great pliers. Made me a Snapon fan I had the long ones first then got the shorter I liked them so much Their torch is better than others, Hitting the middle, well same as any other slip joint. Better than my knipex twin grips Pricing? Competitive with knipex and Klein and other good brands. The Icon tools are not cheap, not as expensive. The Snapon and knipex are better than icon/doyle pliers. A couple of dollars for a tool that works better is money well spent. I have icon and Doyle tools I use all the time, they are good tools. I reach for the Snapon and knipex 1st they are a little better whether it’s size range or operational smoothness. Sometimes you need more pliers and the 2nd or 3rd pair which gets less use isn’t as nice in the hand but you don’t care because you don’t use all the time, cheaper is great. I wouldn’t buy a Snapon tool I don’t use frequently. I use pliers all the time.

I haven't seen a Snap-on tool van for years now. They do have some presence in the UK, but extremely expensive. I have a lot of Snap-On and Mac from the 80's. I bought all new off the trucks including the Snap-On boxes. They are in my garage as I went down a different path but everything is still in great shape. I only had to rebuild one ratchet. The drawers are still perfect on the boxes. I'm hoping to have everything paid off by 2030. Snap-On joke even back in the day they were expensive but as a young mechanic you didn't care because it was just a weekly payment to the tool truck. I'm going to buy those pliers and also the combo slip joints. I also have the Knipex Twin Grips which I really like.

You bought them all n the 80’s and they let you make payments till 2030? They must make the payments pretty affordable…. I never knew how it worked, I don’t know anyone around me that’s worked in a shop like that.
@scotts4125
@scotts4125 8 ай бұрын
@@MORGANSMaintenance No I was joking about 2030. I think once you stop working at a place that's on his route or your stop turning wrenches as was my case you just pay your bill off which was what I did. The way it worked back then was the truck guy gave you credit up to a certain amount. I you were making a really big purchase you filled out a credit app but still made the payments to the tool truck. "I think" if you had credit with the company you could make those payments with another truck if you switched places that wasn't on the same route. I have no idea how it works now. I broke the tip on one of my 80's screwdrivers. If you find a truck somewhere they will put a new blade in for you still. Back then it was mostly SAE but metric was becoming popular. I would guess I have 60% SAE 40% metric. SAE now is almost useless on cars.

I also like their wire stripper/cutters and their 1/4” & hex bit “Swivel head/rotating head ratchet is my absolute favorite product they offer. We use these swivel head ratchets like screwdrivers or turn handles in the building trades (door hardware). Buy a couple neoprene fender covers to use a catch cloths when you’re drilling or cutting inside the building. Yep, that's Snap-On for you. After you bough it, all it leaves you with is picking nickels from other people's floors. Seriously, my mechanic has some Snap-On tools and there's nothing justifying that price tag. Sometimes they do have a very specialised tools, but still way to expensive. I get their philosophy - creating an elite brand with a very specific model of distribution. And I also get that it's tailored for the USA - a county of huge distances, with sparsely populated areas lacking tool stores (at least in the past), so fairly reliable and durable tools (you don't have to get a new tool every 6 months) coming to you (not the other way round), could be a successfully business. But now - it's like Apple or Festool. Their product content per se is as high as snobbery and impressions content.

I would never pay what they want for ratchets, sockets, toolboxes, etc. They mostly are sold in Mechanic shops from Trucks. They allow them to put them on payments and With the Lifetime warranty it allows them trade in broken tools on-site. That’s what I gather anyways, I really know nothing about them. If I ever have to buy a tool on payments.. It’s too expensive and I’m not buying it 😂 I don’t see myself buying many more of their tools. I didn’t buy this one for it being Snap-on, it just a tool that looks useful and is only currently only sold by them. Ive been buying tools for along time…It’s taken along time for them to finally get me with something 😂

@@MORGANSMaintenance Snap-On's business model is selling tools on credit. That's the stick. Life time warranty is the carrot. I can see the benefits of this model for both parties. If you run a shop or a garage with more than 1000 customers/cars serviced a year, you cannot have downtimes because of broken tools. Or waste your time on buying tools. It was yet more relevant before the Internet. Nowadays you can buy any tool without getting up from your couch, so there's more stick than carrot in Snap-On philosophy. Of course getting your weiner prolongated when THE truck comes to your driveway is another thing :)

@chrisfyfe9212 yeah… most of their tools are not for me.. at least for the cost. If I was a full time Mechanic maybe, but not for what I do. 😂

@@MORGANSMaintenance K.O.T. , you need a pair of Knipex Pincers with the hammer face ( 51 01 210 ) . Good hammer , great for nail pulling ( non marring if you score a piece of scrap leather ), anything you can’t shear are easy to pull ! I find the hammer face does anything I typically need ! I carry them in my TP6B in lieu of a hammer !

I have some Klein needle nose from 28 that will grab that nickel… things used to be made differently….. do you do Instagram? I have an extensive collection of early snap on,Klein,Knipex,as well as Champion DeArment/channel lock… have a pair of channel lock parallel jaw plier from the 40’s that are believed to be the only pair left on the planet… channel lock corporate isn’t even sure what to think….

I’ve never even been on Instagram. I can barely keep up with KZfaq 😂😂 I really like looking at older tools. I see some I remember seeing as a kid, but then also just seeing what people used to work with, etc. it’s pretty cool. Surprised Channellock hasn’t tried to buy them from you.

I can understand that… several of us just post random pics of things we are working on…. My Jam is old pliers and different antique scales of all kinds.

They are definitely nice but not all that practical for me without a cutter. I own a lot of quality tools but no snap on. I want their 8inch slip joint pliers very much.

I wish the cutter was a little bigger myself. I’m hoping the cutter on the 9” is bigger.

Yeah I was gonna wait, but I knew they would be hard to get ahold of for awhile when they release. I’m sure they will be good

😂… These weren’t that bad. A quality pair of pliers just run that much these days. Now most of their tools are way too expensive in my opinion. My brother bought a Snap On toolbox one time for like $6000. I’ll take a Husky 😂

I will probably never buy a Snap On tool. That said, this is only one I've ever especially wanted - it is a good design, with no alternative out there that's all that similar. I hope we get a solid knockoff from Icon and/or a quality Japanese manufacturer.
