What makes this so good and so compelling is that they approached it as a war movie, not as sci-fi or fantasy. They were also true to the 1977 aesthetic of Star Wars, but didn't let the name guide the way the movie was filmed or directed.

Ah, Rogue One. One of my favorites among the Star Wars movies. Those Stormtroopers with the black armor are Death Troopers. They're pretty much the elite among the Imperial Stormtroopers, and are frequently used for bodyguard work (llike for high-ranking Imperial officers, senators, etc.), covert ops, and they're experts in guerrilla warfare. The reason their voices sound the way they do when they speak is because of a scrambler built into the helmet that can only be decoded by another Death Trooper helmet, in order to keep their tactics secret to anyone else listening.

@@andymiller6661 yeah they were hand delivered, just like it was presented in rogue one (big ship downloaded, made a physical copy, delivered to Leia while Vader was storming), its the same disc r2d2 gets in new hope "price they paid" does not mean money, price of victory can be anything, lives, xwings, anything; rogue one is a depiction of the fight that was brought up in new hope a few times; i dont get the chill argument, i just see her being professional and not emotional (how did she react to her planet being destroyed? not much, and then she went to sleep) how was vader chill? he choked a guy to death while asking him where the plans are, and killed everyone else on board besides Leia he had to board again because the plans rebels have are physical, he has to stop them before they get out, i dont see any other course of action

@@MovieJoob This movie actually includes some unused footage from the 1977 Ep. IV A New Hope. The filmmakers found some old reels at the Industrial Light & Magic, and they turned out to be unused footage of Rebels in the cockpits of their fighters. So some of the shots you see of pilots in cockpits were actually shot back then. They are original. That's why they feel so authentic and true to Ep. IV esthetics.

The lady senator in the white robes and with the short, brown hair, was Mon Mothma. And yes, the character WAS in the original trilogy. And the gaunt, elderly imperial officer that you also recognized, was Grand Moff Tarkin; from A New Hope. (And briefly showed up in Revenge of the Sith.) Originally, the character was played by Peter Cushing, but he passed away, quite some time ago. (The mid-nineties, I think.) Some reactors I've seen, didn't even really acknowledge the characters, or remember them, at all; so I was impressed that you did.

With regard to Chirrut Imwe's (Donnie Yen) apparent ability to sense the Force...he's not explicitly Force-sensitive. Because the Force is a part of nearly all living things, any lifeform that is connected to it at all, can potentially sense it to some degree, or be "worked through" by the Will of the Force. Because he's blind, he has naturally reached out with other senses to make up the difference, and since he's immersed himself in Jedi culture (the Jedi Order did have members who were not Force-users), he has learned how to trust his instincts as worked upon by the Force. He can't directly sense it, and he can't control it, but he trusts the Will of the Force. He doesn't resist it, he doesn't doubt it...and it rewards his faith with "sight". Unfortunately, too many people try to apply this kind of thinking to real life, and there just isn't any Will or entity or anything else controlling anything. The universe is an empty, thoughtless mechanism...a system of systems that bumble blindly, slowly, and inexorably toward thermodynamic oblivion. It's a Rube Goldberg machine of completely random origin. And trusting your instincts is one of the worst things you can do in most situations. The other worst thing you can do, is second-guess yourself and hesitate.
@MovieJoob
@MovieJoob 2 жыл бұрын
His character was so fascinating and really made me ponder to the limits.. well.. what constitutes a Jedi in the first place! Is it simply skill at utilising the force or are there other elements that could constitute one as a Jedi. Is it more exclusive than a religion or could anyone quantify as one. I like that theres no set in stone answer (at least from what I've watched so far) It's open to interpretation.

K2-SO is the best. Played by Alan Tudyk, he's like a darker version of Wash from Firefly. Also, he's not "unaware" of social norms...he's indifferent. He knows full-well what he's saying and doing, and essentially just doesn't give a shit. Part of it is likely because he's programmed NOT to feel empathy, by the Empire. And part of that is probably hard-coded and can't be removed without really messing him up. So, he's been reprogrammed to be "good" for the Rebellion, but because of that baseline Imperial coding, he's a serious dick about it. And that makes him funny. Like when someone says something really nice in a super-angry tone.

Not to mention that since his main specialty is strategic analysis, he's an absolute badass with a blaster. @@cecilrichardson2494 It's possible that the Rebellion put some code in his head that he can't just pick up a weapon on his own. They couldn't make him harmless because he's an Imperial droid hard-coded to kill people. But they could limit his options. He's too valuable to have passed up the chance at turning him against the Empire, especially when the Rebels had so few advantages to start with, but too dangerous to just flip a switch and let him be on his own. If someone gives him a blaster, it's one thing, but he can't just go pick one up laying around. Otherwise he'd have been able to do that anytime at the base on Yavin 4's moon, as well. That way, they know if he has a weapon and starts shooting the place up, there's probably another mole because someone GAVE him that weapon, since they made it so he can't just pick one up on his own.

@@DoremiFasolatido1979 Actually, that makes sense. It would also clarify his asking Cassian why he didn't get a blaster, but Jyn did (even though she likely stole it). The Rebellion could also have added code to his programming to enable him to tell friend vs foe, and modify it so that he's still hard-coded to kill, but only active-duty Imperials, and not to kill anyone associated with the Rebellion (including former/defected Imperials).

I am continually surprised by how many small nuances you pick up on that even long-time fans don't necessarily; one of those being that you started referring to the Rebels as "the Alliance" - fun fact, the full name is actually "The Alliance to Restore the Republic" even though it's never said in the movies. Another is that Chirrut is absolutely Force-sensitive, and probably would have become a Jedi had he been born earlier in the timeline (my opinion anyway). This is also the reason he knows Jyn is wearing the kyber crystal - when Jedi go to build their lightsaber the first time, they have to find a Kyber crystal by connecting to it through the Force and it "sings" to them, and they sort of bond with it. This is part of why Obi-Wan chastises Anakin so much about losing his lightsaber. I really hope you'll be watching the rest of the movies and the animated series (Clone Wars and Rebels anyway) - these 2 animated shows really add so much to the story and lore of Star Wars that I think you would enjoy based on how you've liked the movies so far. Either way keep up the good work!

I always felt that this was the best Star Wars in the Disney era. But I’ve just thought of a possible flaw - and I’m surprised it didn’t click earlier. Galen Erso was taken by Krennic, who was dressed in an imperial uniform, because they wanted him to design what would become the Death Star - for the Empire. He was accompanied by death troopers, who wore armour very similar to that of a stormtrooper. And yet, in Attack Of The Clones, Dooku is in receipt of the Death Star plans, suggesting they were made BEFORE the Empire existed and BEFORE the use of clone troopers, let alone stop troopers. And the Death Star was nearing completion by the end of Revenge of The Sith. I still think it’s a really good film, but this lack of attention to detail is a bit of a niggle.

Galen, didn't design the Death Star, while they don't say outright, it's implied he's a weapons engineer or a power plant expert, whom they needed to finish the weapon, they were having difficulty in powering it or some other design flaw or oversight, they never say directly. It was the Geonosians, the bug people from episode 2, that actually designed it. But the actual construction of the Death Star didn't begin until after the start of the Empire. And even then, as is referenced in the film, it was only one of hundreds, if not thousands of projects the Empire was working on, in case you were wondering why it took so long to build.

@oxhine
@oxhine 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Jade! "Rogue One" is not just the best Disney Star Wars but it's my second favorite Star Wars film after "Empire"! Admiral Raddus was a substitute for the Mon Calamari Admiral from "Return of the Jedi", Ackbar! He's red-skinned not blue. "It's a trap!" Lol. The significance of the film is that it shows a fragmented Rebellion consisting of disillusioned operatives who were unable to galvanize on an actionable strategy. If Jyn hadn't convinced Cassian and his volunteers to go ROGUE, the Rebellion would probably never have won its critical victory against the Empire by destroying the Death Star. Diego Luna will be reprising the role of Cassian in the spin-off series "Andor" coming out in 2022! Neither Jedha nor Scarif were destroyed because Tarkin stated he didn't want to issue a Manifesto but just wanted to make a statement. He ordered a SINGLE-REACTOR IGNITION which one infers is a lower-powered blast. He made the distinction twice. The best line goes to Vader: "Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Director." Lol. This movie is set 19 years after "Revenge of the Sith" and ends just hours before "A New Hope" begins! The Death Star plans featured in the Episode IV briefing are what is handed to Leia and what she later uploads into Artoo! The likenesses of Carrie Fisher and Peter Cushing were digitally overlaid on actors portraying Leia and Tarkin because both original actors had passed away. Alan Tudyk as K-2SO and Donnie Yen as Chirrut both nearly steal this movie! Donnie Yen is a megastar in Asia and an amazing martial artist known for the "Ip Man" series. The crystal pendant Lyra gave to Jyn is a kyber crystal which powers lightsabers. Her possession of it shows she's a believer in the Force which is discouraged under the Empire. The Rebels were using the abandoned temples on the jungle moon of Yavin 4 as a base. Their defense of Yavin is the climax of Episode IV. Every volunteer on that Scarif mission knows they're on a one-way trip but Felicity Jones delivers an incredible motivational speech! The black-armored Death Troopers are an elite unit like Navy SEALs. Darth Vader is absolutely SAVAGE in this film! The audience went nuts in that final scene! There are SO MANY actor and/or character cameos and references in this film tying into other parts of the franchise. This movie may not be part of the Skywalker Saga but there were plenty of familiar faces on hand! Did you recognize them all? Here are some in order of appearance: 1. SAW GERRERA (Forest Whitaker; animated Clone Wars, animated Bad Batch, Fallen Order video game and animated Rebels) 2. EDRIO TWO-TUBES (Tognath eggmate to Benthic Two-Tubes from "Solo"; animated Rebels) 3. MON MOTHMA (Genevieve O'Reilly reprising her prequel appearance; animated Clone Wars, Episode III, animated Rebels, Episode VI played by Caroline Blakiston) 4. GENERAL JAN DODONNA (bearded rebel General played by Ian McElhinney; animated Rebels, Episode IV played by Alex McCrindle) 5. SENATOR BAIL ORGANA (Jimmy Smits reprising his prequel role as Leia's adoptive father; Episode II, animated Clone Wars, Episode III, Obi-Wan Kenobi, animated Rebels) 6. GRAND MOFF WILHUFF TARKIN (CGI Peter Cushing; animated Clone Wars; Episode III portrayed by a different actor, animated Bad Batch, animated Rebels, Episode IV) 7. PONDA BABA & DR. EVAZAN (spider-fanged Aqualish and disfigured bud who tangle with Obi-Wan in a Mos Eisley cantina; Episode IV portrayed by different actors) 8. WEETEEF CYU-BEE (Warwick Davis, Star Wars' lucky penny who cameos in every movie since playing Wicket the Ewok in Episode VI; the small Partisan alien on Jedha) 9. DARTH VADER (James Earl Jones voices him again!; Episodes I, II, animated Clone Wars, Episode III, Fallen Order video game, Obi-Wan Kenobi, animated Rebels, Episodes IV, V, VI, IX) 10. HERA SYNDULLA (Twi'lek star of animated Rebels and daughter of Clone Wars freedom fighter Cham Syndulla mentioned over intercom at the Yavin base after Jyn fails to get a green light for her Scarif mission) 11. C-3PO & R2-D2 (Anthony Daniels puts on the golden plating yet again and is joined by his astromech partner!; Episodes I, II, animated Clone Wars, Episode III, Obi-Wan Kenobi [3PO only], animated Rebels, Episodes IV, V, VI, The Mandalorian [R2 only], The Book of Boba Fett [R2 only], VII, VIII, IX) 12. OBI-WAN KENOBI (mentioned only as the Jedi in hiding who served Bail well in the Clone Wars and whom Mon Mothma wishes to contact; Episodes I, II, animated Clone Wars, Episode III, Obi-Wan Kenobi, animated Rebels, Episodes IV, V, VI, IX) 13. CAPTAIN RAYMUS ANTILLES (Captain of Leia's transport and Vader's first choke-out on film!; Episode III portrayed by a different actor, Episode IV portrayed by a different actor) 14. RED & GOLD LEADERS (Drewe Henley and Angus MacInnes reprised their roles as the X- and Y-Wing Commanders, respectively, who perished attacking the Death Star by lending their voices to archival footage digitally inserted into the cockpits during the attack on Scarif; Episode IV) 15. PRINCESS LEIA ORGANA (CGI Carrie Fisher gets the last word!; Episode III, Obi-Wan Kenobi, animated Rebels, Episodes IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX)

Galen Erso's Death Star plans doesn't make sense. The Death Star is a massive space station that uses up massive amounts of energy to destroy planets. Obviously, it needs to have some sort of exhaust mechanism to function. So adding an exhaust port wouldn't be a flaw, but a necessity. Further, the exhaust port added by Erso isn't evenough optimal for destruction. First off, it's extremely narrow. Even more, firing into it requires the shot to take a 90 degree angle. If he really wanted to help out the the rebels he would make a wider exhaust port that went straight down. This isn't just theoretical, we see the rebels fail to actually destroy the Death Star like this. Literally the only way it was destroyed was with the mystical powers of a space wizard. Galen Erso ha's no knowledge of Luke's existence and makes no mention of needing the force to destroy it. So really Galen barely helped at all, and would have actually screwed over the rebellion if Luke hadn't come along. How did Jyn get so quickly down from the tower? why didn't Vader use his skill to teleport which was shown in the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series? if Death Star was first time in New Hope so why tests in a rogue rue one movie don't count? Disney is the worse thing what has happened to Star Wars even worse than the 90's Special Edition Trilogy combined with the Holiday Special.

It's a secondary port, in this case, @《Jussi138》 , so it is possible that this could be slipped in (just barely) into the plans. And yes, it was still impossible almost to target, I give you that. So broadly speaking, this did not need to be 'fixed' - still, it was kind of neat. And Vader can teleport? As if. Distort your view of where he is, maybe.

OK so I have a theory, The story in Rogue One is inspired by Halo Reach. You need a victory but all the hero's die.
