This wasn't a live performance. It was a TV performance, but the miming was done to sheer perfection, especially from Agnetha.

ABBA's "The Winner Takes It All" is one of the most heartbreaking breakup songs of all time, and it always gets us emotional. Like most ABBA songs, it was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. It was originally titled "The Story of My Life". Agnetha Fältskog sang lead vocals on the ballad, which was recorded the same year she and Ulvaeus broke up. Bjorn Ulvaeus has denied that the song is about his and Agnetha's divorce. However, he has said that it is about divorce in general and the emotions associated with it. He said: "It's an experience of divorce, but it's fiction. In our case, there was no winner or loser. A lot of people think it's straight from reality, but it's not." The song put Agnetha in a strange situation where she was asked to sing a break-up song written by her ex-husband just moments later. However, Björn didn't mean for it to happen this way. He said: "I recorded a demo of it myself and a lot of people liked it and said you have to sing it. But of course I saw the sensible thing, it had to go to Agnetha. "I remember coming into the studio with it and everyone was like, 'Oh this is great, wonderful. It was strange to hear him sing it. It was more like an actor doing something while singing it, but deeply moving. Afterwards there were a few. tears too." He added: "It's usually not a good idea to write drunk, but everyone got away with it. When I wrote 'gods can roll the dice', the bottle was empty." Agnetha said: "Björn wrote it about us after our marriage broke up. The fact that he wrote it right when we broke up is really touching. "It was fantastic to do that song because I was able to give that feeling. I didn't mind sharing it with the audience. It didn't feel wrong. There's so much in that song.

This song brings chills and gentle tears to me. I can't fathom how theses artists play with ex-lovers. I must come to terms with how this is possible. I am prone to resentment and I tend to shun those who reject me. How tf do these people come together and make hits that touch so many people like this? Look at Fleetwood Mac. Forgiveness seems to be so powerful. I have one to many loves that loved me...

Hello, thanks for your new reaction to ABBA songs, another of my ABBA Top5 (with Waterloo, S.O.S., Dancing Queen & Don't shut me down) ABBA in the begining two swedish couples: Agnetha (blonde singer) & Björn (guitarist songwriter) Benny (pianist songwriter) & Anni Frida (brunette singer) both couples separated before the breakup of ABBA in 1982: Agnetha & Björn at end of 1978 Benny & Frida at begin 1981 "The winner takes it all" (1980) is one of the Best Songs by ABBA and the Most sad and emotional too The best lyrics by the guitarist Björn and the greatest performing with the amazing Interpretation of the lead singer Agnetha Fältskog and her soprano voice The lyrics is a fiction about a divorce, it is not about Their real life, although it is obviously influenced by Their own experiences and the realization of the legal divorce between Agnetha & Björn in the middle of 1980, even though They were no longer a couple or lived together more than a year and half ago, at the end of 1978 In fact, the song was more nearly in time to the split of Benny & Frida as a couple, only a few months later It have an Official Video with more than 110 millions views in KZfaq, was filmed on July 12 (1980), is a Masterpiece as the song (it shows the blonde singer Agnetha alone so sad and remembering happy times, and the others members so nice together, a perfect example of contrast feelings It's the first ABBA vídeo with images in black and white about Their previous history, to introduce us in the context; I think it's their best official video but just as a great performance by Agnetha is seen in these video, almost like a dramatic actress, transmitting the sorrow, anguish and pain, there are also videos in the back room of the filming, which show the four cheerful and fun)que "The winner takes it all" return ABBA to the Top of the charts, gives ABBA their eighth #1 in UK after almost two years and half Also was the fourth and last Top10 to ABBA in U.S (pick at #8 in 1981) and #1 in US Adult Contemporary too "The winner takes it all" was voted the Best ABBA song by the British fans, and is the favourite ABBA song to the blonde singer Agnetha and now in the new Voyage concerts at London the encore song is... "The winner takes it all" For a new reaction I suggest You "Super Trouper" (1980) the following single and last #1 in UK with the lead voice of the brunette Frida (so you could see the different voices in ABBA) I wish to You a greatest weekend my best regards from Buenos Aires , Argentina 🇦🇷 South América

Hi again Mia! I'm so glad to see you again... What I like the most about this video is seeing that while the others are performing, trying to convey the sadness of the song, Benny can't help but smile while playing the piano (or while going through the song in his mind). As the great musician that he is, he can't help but enjoy this masterpiece. Agnetha is incredible in the lead voice, Frida and Björn in the backing vocals, the instrumentation is amazing too. I agree with EduardoOscar🇦🇷 that your next reaction could be to 'Super Trouper', one of my favorites, with Frida on lead vocals. I hope to see you soon with more ABBA👑 Tons of love from Chile 🇨🇱😘👍

Well I'm so glad that your channel came into my suggestions today. I'm a reactor as well and have been watching them for years, but I'm really loving how accepting you are of new music, and how willing you are to share your emotions so openly. I'm also really digging the text overlays sharing your emotions, rather than pausing every second to get your words out. Of course I understand that KZfaq can be a pain in the booty, but yours is a great workaround. I'm a fan and subscribed. Keep up the great work. ☮️🎵 PS, the key to ABBA's unique sound and appeal stems mainly from the juxtaposition of the two women's voices (Agnetha and Frida). They may be singing the same notes, but the textures are so different and when layered together make pure tonal magic. Also, the group modeled their sound after producer Phil Spector's now legendary "Wall of Sound" production formula.

Hands down their best song. (but it's not live) The raw hurt in her voice is incredible. Yet, regardless the destruction that this era caused to her bandmates they knew they had a monster hit on their hands and sucked down their pride to release musical magic. The album I feel was a parallel to this was Rumours by Fleetwood Mac - as the band fell apart their music was all the better for the emotion and chaos that they channelled into their music as their lives fell apart. A close third is definitely "Call me when you're sober" by Evanescence.

It is not a live performance. In that time period most bands were using playback. The fade-out always gives it away.

And now we are in a period of time that many artists are using technical facilities and just pretend to perform good singing. Live performance or not, ABBA always did everything authentic and incredibly good.

This was written after Benny and Frida separated. There was a brilliant Abba special made at the time.

@@eduardooscar309 Sorry, nope. He finally admitted it. The words can apply to different breakups, yes, however Bjorn said it was about them. On a side note, Agnetha said although the song is so personal, it's her favorite ABBA song.

She was going through a divorce or already went through the divorce and her heart was totally broken how she was able to even sing the song I Don't Know.
