Me being a 45 year old white man when this stuff came out in 92 I was 13 and didn't know anything about racism and politics Rage Against the Machine taught me before the social media world was a thing I credit them for me having understanding the riots of 1992 and the message behind it because my dad had several black friends and he taught me the meaning of a lot of these lyrics add a young age which prepared me for the social struggles going on today

I Am 42 and had a childhood growing up in poor rural central africa and then as a young teen we moved to Denmark in Scandinavia in 1993. Thats when I found Rage and they spoke directly into all the things I questionned about the world, having grown up around ppl who had nothing but deserved everything and now lived with ppl who had everything yet didn't really seem to deserve it... I will forever be a contrarian to pure capitalism and fascism. One thing I learned in Denmark was the need to have a social security and healthcare system as a foundation for a free market economy. And workers unions! If you don't have that, it is just modern slavery!

@@suefantastic4584 I grew up in a 50/50 Hispanic/ white suburb I didn't have opportunity to have black friends sorry if that came off wrong I see everyone the same it's just today if you don't know people from another culture it could take sometime to learn about things we were not taught in school again my dad recognizing that and him having black friends from work in which I called my Uncle Leonard he knew I was not going to learn these things or from the people I was hanging out with that's all I meant

For real. People look for any reason to invalidate Rage. Take a guess - they've never found a real reason. Covid, capitalism.... Rage has been consistent with their views. It's right-wingers who can't understand the principles that Rage stands for. Thank God Rage has never gone soft and endorsed either of the sham parties we have in this country.

First time i saw Rage, Austin SouthPark Meadows. They walked on stage, turned the American flag upside down on the speakers and hit Bulls on Parade. Crowd went nuts

in 96 my awesome Uncle got this cd for me and even though I lost my collection 10 years ago it was and always will be one of the greatest albums I ever had. I'm 41 and are restarting my life in many ways, because of your reaction video I will own this LP by next week. I buy vinyl today only because artists and bands like RATM are trophies in the universe of music.

Only people saying Rage sold out (that I know about) are those that were pissed they were asked to mask up or be vaccinated to be at concerts, which according to Tom Morello was nothing to with the band anyway. It was just whatever the local laws happened to be that the venue had to comply with.

Recommend having the lyrics up on your phone or a second screen of some kind. There's so much depth in the lyrics. Grew up listening to these guys, still my favorite. Born with a raised fist. The reason people say they sold out is because they required proof of vaccination during covid. I agree that it was a pretty hypocritical thing to do given their messaging, but I still love 'em.

Morello has a degree from Harvard, is ranked by every ranking that counts In the top 20 greatest guitarists of all time, and is now a member of the rock and roll hall of fame (though he could care less) 🤘🏼His uncle was the first president of Kenya and his father was Kenya’s first ambassador to the UN… My ass struggled to get showered and to work today 🫣

Its so good. Yeah all their music is highly political. And very deliberate. It's a potent mixture of militant marxist-socialism and LA 1990's racist police protest.They did some live shows feat Cypress Hill. Otherwise all their stuff is worth checking out. All the youtubers usually do 'Down Rodeo' because of obvious racial aspect (it's brilliant). Voice of the voiceless (also brilliant) it's about Mumia Abu-Jamal so again US racial politics, but a little more obscure. I love their cover of Maggie's farm and there is a recording of them doing a spoken word poem by Allen Ginsberg called JFK (hadda be playing a juke box) just gives me chills. Keep going

Some people claim this because they’re extremely uninformed. They either say they’re “sellouts” because they got rich, or because they supported covid vaccines. Many many many people say Rage required proof of vax for their shows, but they weren’t even touring until after the venues had lifted their vaccine requirements. It wasn’t the band, it was the city/county where the tour was originally planned, but it was postponed.

I had a friend who said he loved Rage until they sold out, so I asked him how, because I hadn’t heard. He said that they made vaccines and masks mandatory at their shows during the pandemic. He was pretty passionate in his anti-vax stance. I looked it up, and it was apparently untrue. Morello said that Rage would never require fans to be vaccinated to see their shows. I didn’t see anything about the band’s, or individual members,’ stance on the covid vax, but I don’t really care. That stuff didn’t exist when Rage recorded their albums. They couldn’t have sold out, because they had, as far as I’m aware, never previously stated any strong views one way or the other on vaccines. I think you have to reach hard to find hypocrisy when they haven’t actually betrayed any prior lyrics or statements. And the claim about requiring vaccines at shows turned out to be false. So maybe it’s just a rumor that got out of hand. If there’s another reason for them being labeled sellouts, I’m not aware. I mean, maybe if they want to complain about Audioslave or something… Listen to Calm like a Bomb.

That vaccine lie spread like wildfire. It started in 2021 when venues around the US had requirements due to city/county ordinances. But the thing is, they didn’t play in 2021. Their tour was postponed a few times, and when it finally started in the summer of 2022, all of the venues had lifted the restrictions, and not a single person had to show proof of vax to get in. At least in the US, I’m not 100% sure about Canadian shows. I believe Tom was a proponent of getting the covid vaccine because he knew it was saving lives. People don’t realize that it’s possible to have a healthy distrust of the pharmaceutical industry, and still find use in their discoveries. A lot of leftists veered off into antivax conspiracies during covid, it’s been hard to watch. Like I 100% agree the industry itself has evil aspects to it, and healthcare should not be for-profit, but I can also recognize when they are needed (like in the middle of a global pandemic when 3k+ people a day are dying.) Lately, the weirdest comments I’m seeing from “former” Rage fans are people who are mad they’re supporting Palestine. Like did they not listen to a single lyric all those years?!

They've been consistent with their messaging since their inception, and it's not their fault that people didn't get the message. Maybe they should have listened to Limp Bizkit instead.
