I think lil dap’s voice would fit today’s culture. I just feel his sound is made more for today.

Yo, "Black on Both Sides" was my vote for hip hop album of the year in '99. Y'all gotta react to the rest of this joint! "Mathematics", "New World Water", "Speed Law"... Damn, just react to the whole album!

I just found you guys recently and been watching all the old school hip-hop ya'll been reviewing.. I dig the channel & since I'm from NYC and grew up in that era of Hip-Hop I thought to give ya'll some direction. So, Mos Def is a top 10 MC of all-time.. (even tho his catalog is small but that's how great he is) but you need to check out his first album with Talib Kweli as the group Black Star. Unbelievable chemistry between them & since you like the creativity from him, it really hits on that album. Whole album is dope.. and the beats go hard.. but if I have to pick one song from it for ya'll to review, go with "Definition" but I want you to play "Re:Definition" with it bc they mix into each other. P.S. I think you might recognize the sample from another MC you go hard for... Peace

Menace to society was amazing! Above the rim is definitely my favorite. Also New Jersey drive, the show, Friday, tales from the crypt was good too, and murder was the case had a banging soundtrack. It was hard to just pick one favorite

This beat was originally made for Nas. Some beats off the album was for Nas. I'm glad he didn't take them. We would've never got Group Home.

Speaking of Inspectah Deck and Gangstarr you absolutely MUST react to Gangstarr - Above The Clouds (feat. Inspectah Deck) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l9Ryg6mk37zTaKM.html one of the most perfect Hip Hop records of that era, a True Classic in every way a song you put on repeat when you first heard it until you learned all the Lyrics --"I Self Lord and Master shall bring Disaster to Evil Factors..." is how it starts! a Hip Hop Spiritual!!

i understand it's a tough song to go back to 30 years later but honestly this was an underground favorite that would be more like a 9 rating because of the Premier production and how popular it was because it's just a perfect record for every DJ to add to their hip hop mix so you heard it everywhere.

"Putting Shame in Your Game" is a dope song that doesn't get a lot of love on KZfaq really...you guys should check it out. But Beastie Boys weren't just great hip hop artists, they were also incredible musicians...check out "Son of Neckbone" also. No lyrics, all instrumental...but really shows the versatility these guys had.

He was talking about penetrating the scene. It really was a filler but what you have to understand is back then we were not so hypersensitive over certain words, especially when it's easy to understand what they're talking about. From an old man's perspective, we get frustrated because now days a mufucka can't even have a conversation without somebody "pausing". I personally think it's sad that tge society is so out to prove it's not gay that words that existed long before this era can't even be used without somebody thinking it's gay. If i was to say to you in description, "when the fight started I was standing behind my homie"... somebody gonna say "what"!? It's ridiculous that EVERYTHING comes off that way. Oh I forgot, it's ridiculous that everything "works" that way.

I mean if we keeping it a buck, we got to blame Cam'ron for that shit lol. I remember him starting that in the 2000s. While defiantly wearing all pink 😆

@Peacekeepa317 I'm not sure I agree with that. I can't remember this "pause" shit before 3 or 4 years ago. What Cam did with the pink was make dudes in the hood comfortability wearing certain pink stuff. Of course, today they say it a lot on their podcast, but to have started it? I need some more proof on that one.

@purposepassionandlovetv863 That's the first place I heard it. I remember because I used to be on allhiphop a lot when Dipset was popular and I first saw it there in a pause GIF with Cam'ron wearing a pink fur hat

Group Home is not known to be the best lyricists but this album Livin Proof was 99% produced by DJ Premier. His beats take them a long way. Once they strayed away from getting the Premier beats they went downhill but that album is a classic.
