Katowice is actually my home city. Yes. Thanks to the heavy industry of the past and many services nowadays, the Silesia region has become the cultural, economical and educational centre of western Poland. Actually, Katowice is only a part of a bigger entity, called Silesian metropolis, sometimes also called "Katowice urban area" - which is a cluster of over 40 different cities, with Katowice in the very middle serving as a capital, roughly covering an area of 2,500 km2, with a total population reaching 2.8 million. It's normal for us Silesians to travel through multiple of those cities on a daily basis as commuters, because the public transport (mainly public buses, local trains and public trams) connect those cities like a spider web - you can get anywhere, in under 2h (even from one end of the metropolis to the other, ignoring heavy traffic and roadworks on the way). We really would benefit from metro (even multiple lanes), but there's an unfortunate catch - the kilometers of mineshafts, stretching underground XD. That's also, why you don't see tall skyscrapers in Katowice. Any deep ground works could led to a catastrophic collapse of those shafts and mines - yeah, we don't want that XDDD But like I said - not really needed - the buses, trams and trains do the public transportation job fine. Well, I mean, building a metro station could be done, but you'd had to fill all those shafts first with some filling, and that would cost a ton of money.

My friend, great blog. I was hoping this was something recent (it was). I was last in Poland (the country of my birth) in July of 2016. I have an uncle who lives near Katowice (Sosnowiec) actually. I've been following foodie vlogs on here both Polish and American as well as other general travel vlogs. Yours is a good one. Keep up the good work. It was nice to see a city I know so well through your camera!
