weirdly enough, people tend to not like this album on the first listen, but its great that you liked it, not exactly an album to start with, but with this down, every other for you should be very easily digestable

Starting with KID A was so wild of you, but so much respect for you that you were able to listen to it critically! A lot of people find this one hard to digest, because it's so sonically trippy. Props, Jack!

I've always thought the most criminally underrated song on Kid A is "In Limbo". If you ever see live performances of that song (a few exist on line from them), that is a STUNNING piece of work in terms of ethereal timing.

Kid A is when I started to realize how immensely great Colin Greenwood is - the magical element he adds (and continues to build and expand). Not to mention really understand how great a composer Jonny is.

You're probably gonna see In Rainbows and Ok Computer a lot (amazing albums) but my personal favorite is their most recent album A Moon Shaped Pool, it holds such a special place in my heart because of it's topics. When I was in the roughest part of my life a couples months ago, that album was there and as cold and depressing as the album sounds sonically, I somehow found comfort in all the tracks, idk there was just something about it, wish I could listen to it for the first time again, a lot of fans say it's their most gorgeous album sound wise and I agree. 11/10

I really appreciated that they didn't just do a sequel to OK Computer...which had been heralded as one of the most important genius works of that decade, along with Nirvana 'Nevermind', Pearl Jam, and Tool's Aneima. KID A had nothing in common with 'Ok', they took a whole new approach, and drew inspiration from German bleep minimalists such as NEU!, Kraftwerk, and Holger Zukay, allowing the guitars and basses to be a part of the electronic tapestry, instead of dominating with full chordal blocks that tend to dictate and lead the way of the harmonic arrangment in Rock composition. 'Paranoid Android' for example, was built entirely from the guitar chords and was probably written entirely on acoustic guitar. But with KID A, they made it very clear that they were creating an 'album' and the songs and production choices were carried out to serve the whole post-apocalyptic world of broken machines and broken people in an awkward alliance.

i had a friend listen to this album for (his) the first time. He immediately fell in love with it and listened to it 3 times in one day. He worked at a Top 40 radio station and had never experienced anything like it. I literally watched Kid A change a person's life.

Great reaction! Glad I found this hidden gem of a channel. You picked a challenging record for your first Radiohead experience. Kid A was an album I could not fully appreciate my first few listens - it was unlike anything I’d ever heard before and there’s a lot going on. It’s like a fine wine that gets better the more you listen to it. As others have mentioned, I would recommend The Bends (1995), Ok Computer (1997), and In Rainbows (2007) next. Personally, I feel it would provide more insight and context to start with the older albums first, to see their evolution. The abrupt shift Radiohead took in their sound from the more commercial-friendly OK Computer to the challenging, often bleak and anxiety/depression-ridden Kid A (no guitars whatsoever until the fourth track) sent shockwaves through the music industry, and Kid A remains probably one of the most contentious albums ever released to this day; some love it, some hate it.

Where most records today are just a collection of songs, Kid A is an album. Kinda reminds me of Pink Floyd in how complete it is. Everything in its right place, truly.

Oh mate, what a first Radiohead album to listen to! Impressive that you dig it straight away, as a fan (and a guitar loving teenager) at the time going from Ok Computer to this was a honestly tough and if I'm being brutally honest it took me a few years to fully get what they're doing on this album, but now it's my favourite one, and it opened my eyes to other sonic possibilities in mainstream rock and elsewhere.

Not another album like this. The gold standard of art-alt rock. I bought this CD at the time right when it came out. I can listen to this now after over two decades and still have my mind blown by this album.

It's crazy how Radiohead, even going by critical reviews and not personal opinion, could make a solid claim to having the best album in the 90s, 00s, and 10s. When they release an album, it's not just an album release, it's an EVENT.

My 23 year old story of Radiohead loving began from Kid A. Which is kinda weird. Not Ok Computer (i was15 when it was released) but Kid A. Lots of people around me at the time thought i was a drug addict, because they thought no one in their right mind would listen to this kind of music. I was an author in russian version of New Musical Express magazine at the time, so it was hard to fight with those who adored new rock revolution with Strokes, Vines, White Stripes etc. But i fought bravely. They didn't even fire me. Now, 23 years later, i'm a screenwriter looking forward to direct my first tv-show and i hope i can use The National Anthem in most tense moment of the show. Kid A made me see music in a whole different way and i will forever be grateful for it. Greeting from Moscow.

If you like more Dark stuff, I highly recommend Amnesiac and Hail to The Thief. They fulfill that requirement in addition to being together with Kid A the albums that most define how unique this band is.

You will disappear completely, find yourself in limbo , but stay optimistic as you soon discover everything in its right place. You will not see their version of the national anthem in any motion picture soundtrack, but you may have bad dreams of tree fingers. May kid a rouse you before the morning bell. …chuck klosterman in his book ‘killing urself to live’ wrote a whole section describing how this album is the soundtrack for 9-11…he goes hour by hour and lines up each song to that day. …pure genius.

I encourage another listen of Kid A. This time, on your own, laying down on your bed, closed eyes in a dark room. I like to think the album is split in two halves. Tracks 1-4, 5 is a palette cleanser for 6-10. Like you, Kid A was my first full album experience of RH & I didn’t know what to expect. It has become my fav album of all time. Loved the reaction! As others have said, Ok Computer or In Rainbows should be next!

I needed this bro haha. Radiohead has been on my periphery for a while now and on the words of many that I trust in these things I know that ill love their discography. I'd recommend, now that you've gotten exposure to where Radiohead goes quality wise, you should start from the beginning and go through their whole discog. You won't regret it.

Really enjoyed watching you take in Kid A for the first time. When it first came out, it really was a challenge to take in due to it being such a new and unexpected sound from them. However I think because of the many bands that were inspired by this, 20 years later it’s probably not such a challenge. "How to Disappear Completely" was written by Thom while on the OK Computer tour. Feeling overwhelmed with celebrity, reporters, and adoring fans, Thom called Michael Stipe one night from his hotel asking him how did he handle it. Michael told Thom, "I just repeat my mantra, 'I'm not here, this isn't happening.'"

One of the few bands that makes me react to music like I did as a child. Sadness made to sound beautiful - stick with them they are worth the journey.

The journey of emotions that KID A can make you feel is unmatched. People might not enjoy this album because they don't understand it but I think that's the point of it. You're not suppose to understand it...you're suppose to feel it. Who else was completely left speechless at the ending of 'Motion Picture Soundtrack' with Thom Yorke's haunting vocals of "I will see you in the next life" Also, I highly recommend the album Music Has The Right To Children - Boards of Canada Trust me...

The sound landscape of this record is so incredible but you really should have really started from the beginning so you could have seen the quantum leap they took from album to album. Their journey was very Beatles-like that is the band I most compare them too. You missed the shock that this album caused I actually stopped listening to them for years after the album that came out after this one which was recorded in the same sessions. They pissed me off with this record because I wanted OK Computer part 2 and I got this I hated it. Years later after seeing the basement session for In Rainbows I revisited all their work and was stunned by how amazing their discography is needless to say I loved this record when I was ready for it. Radiohead is the only band that I love almost all their music and the handfull that I do not love I can still appreciate the ideas that went into it even their b-sides.

In Rainbows or A Moon Shaped Pool would be amazing and I think you'd love both of those, they feel like yin and yang to each other musically even though they aren't related to each other in the slightest. If you like video games, you might be interested to know that just last year Radiohead released the "Kid A Mnesia Exhibition" for FREE (!!) on PS5/Mac/PC, which is a walking simulator/visual representation of the sounds of Kid A and its follow-up album Amnesiac, based on the various artworks the band did around that era. If you've ever wondered what a playable visual representation of How to Disappear Completely would look like... it's a mindblowing experience and incredibly faithful to the whole dark/beautiful/surreal atmosphere of Kid A. I myself am not a gamer or anything but I easily lost an entire afternoon just wandering around and it actually increased my appreciation for the albums as a whole.
