HAPPY NEW YEAR! In the first video of 2024, it’s a celebration of Daniel Achterhuis’ first year on the roads in his Fiat Panda 100HP.
He covers the year itself, what he got up to, and his highlights from the 12,500 miles he covered - up the country, down the country, and side to side. What’s in store for 2024?
Daniel also offers some insurance advice to fellow young drivers.

good video! I have a few cars, but if I want to go fast on a twisty road, My 2012 Fiat 500 sport is just the ticket. Just 100 horsepower, but if You just beat the gigantic 500 horsepower pickup trucks to the first corner you never see them again. Glad to find your channel. I am a burned out old hippie in southern California, and I find the young you tubers are enthusiastic and knowledgeable and usually more entertaining to watch than the old folks (my age)

Brilliant work Daniel, my first car was a Panda Dynamic, I changed the stock standard thin wheels to some awesome thicker after market Magwheels and had the upholstery done over to black and red stitching. The car is still in the family and had its engine rebuilt once and tuned. Man the 1.2 Panda is also impressive. It is now being driven by my younger brother. And guess what, we got another Panda hahaha, this time a white one also 1.2 and we loving it! I think you are the next Jeremy Clarkson @bbc we are waiting>>>>>>>>>> We need Top Gear back and Daniel is number one on the list for being a presenter. #HappyDays!

I've enjoyed following your first year on the roads and have been coveting your Panda for a few years!!! Good work sir! I had a similar experience with insurance when I started driving in 2010 (and I feel like an incredibly old man saying that) - the 'usual' 1.0 or 1.2 first cars were actually more money to insure than what I ended up buying - which was a Mk1 Renault Megane Coupe 1.6 16v for £1500 (when did you last see one of those?!). Hardly anyone else had aircon, leather seats and a spoiler ... simpler times! 😂 Looking forward to seeing what you get up to in the next year!

It's great to see a young person who's so enthusiastic about cars. I passed my test in 1981, and my fist car was a 1969 Rover P6 2000TC that I bought for for the grand sum of £90.

Incredible video and an incredible presenter! Taking your car to uni, like I did this year, is definitely expensive but it’s well worth it. It makes university far less scary knowing you are free to move around. Good luck with A Levels :)

Great video Daniel. Sussex and Kent have a pothole epidemic like you wouldn’t believe, so I sympathise! That 100HP is fab, I have been looking at them online and they are definitely holding or going up in value now. Maybe a future classic. I wouldn’t mind one, that is for sure. I am 6 foot 2 though, so leg / head room will be the deciding factor 😬

Ask your insurance company to send you proof of no claims at the end of every policy, even if you’re staying with the same company. That way when they wait for years and then randomly ask you for it, you’ve got it, and don’t end up getting reset to 0 because you didn’t

12500 miles, insane, I guess I've done a total of about 8000-9000 km (or about 5500 miles) for 16 months. But there is an asterisk to be put here: half of that is *just in the city*, like in traffic and all. Also potholes - very relatable as a fellow Panda user, I've noticed I've gotten in the habit of bracing for impact at the slightest imperfection on the road and it feels kinda weird when I'm in an SUV with an actually good suspension. Bulgarian roads ain't good for this little car.

Why put different ratio tyres on the car than spec? I see on the closeup the Michelins are 195/50 R15 82V instead of the from new 195/45 R15 78V. Also the original tyres from new on my car and I believe all other Panda 100Hps was the GoodYear F1 GSD3, which only produced this F1 tyre in that size for the Panda 100HP. I own from new, a 2010 Panda 100hp with little miles on it, but 2 years ago I thought to change the tyres and asked Goodyear about availability and they said to me that they had just produced another batch of the Goodyear F1 tyres in the right size, but with upgraded tyre compound to match its latest performance tyres. The car was developed on those tyres over many miles and the F1s are truly excellent tyres.
@DanielDrives
@DanielDrives 6 ай бұрын
I agree with you on the Goodyear Eagle F1s, they are amazing tyres. However, it’s very common for people to use the chunkier profile tyres on 100HPs to try and iron out some of the bumps. It’s not just me!

@@DanielDrives Yes the ride quality is not the best for British B roads, however Fiat fitted inexpensive shock absorbers and springs from new since it was built to a price, and switching to Bilstein with their kit including Eibach springs, does improve the ride and especially rear bounce on our roads, also shown on another youtuber with a 100hp. Pity the chip fitted to the car was pretty unbreakable for remapping, compared to the equivalent engine on the 500 and punto, but there is an Italian firm that seems to be the only one to have done it, without using a piggyback, and has complementing tubular manifold and whole system too; supersprint stopped making all but the manifold. I did not do this yet but am considering since the 100hp engine has little low revs torque for overtaking. However our car has always run on Shell vpower 100 octane from new, cleaner burn less polution and more hp....in 6th on motorway accelerating briskly and without strain at high speed up a steep incline with 4 people.
