Enjoyed the video, good luck! I have one humble request for you and really everybody. To take antibiotics as preventative measures is to teach the bacteria resistance. We have a responsibility for others. Please concentrate on excellent prevention methods rather than antibiotics. If you do get bit, know what the early symptoms are and seek immediate treatment. I’m trying not to be annoying, sorry if it comes across that way.

I use this on my motorcycle in rain. Save a couple plastic bread bags (after you eat the bread) as rain coats for your socks + a couple rubber bands when walking in cold rain. Just slip over your feet like socks then put on your shoes.

Great video. I'm planning for 2024. I noticed you are using a dirty bag for water. I have found that they can puncture and also pop. I like to just have two 1.5 liter smart water bottles. One is always dirty, one is always clean. But in my experience these are much more reliable. Good luck!

I have that same head lamp and in case you do not already know it goes from full light to zero light when the battery runs out. No dimming to let you know it's getting low. So, you might want an extra little button LED light for emergency lighting. Or make sure the head lamp is kept charged up frequently. Good luck on your adventure and look forward to following along.

Thank you for posting this now. I just sat down for a break and needed to escape my problems. Did the Gerber knife come from Ocean State Job Lot? They were on sale a couple of weeks ago. I've gotten some good deals on camping equipment from them. Good choice on the trekking poles. I've seen many poles break on the AT. I gave out 2 poles when I was doing trail magic. This was your best video so far. You seem to be a lot more comfortable. Add a ziplock to put your Sawyer in at night when you bring it to bed. The sewing kits from hotels work well. Is there any chance your boy friend can drive you to Springer? I've heard a lot of airline horror stories recently. Cancelled flights and lost luggage. Losing a pack before a thru hike would be a tragedy. Good Luck, Rick
@gabicerrahikes
@gabicerrahikes Жыл бұрын
The gerber knife actually came from Amazon, but I got it on sale! I’ll have to check out ocean state job lot I had no idea they had camping equipment! And thanks! I feel like it was easier to record, took me a bit to get comfortable speaking to a camera haha Sadly driving isn’t an option for me, but I am not checking my pack I’m carrying it on the plane so I have it in my possession the entire time. I’m going to check my poles, tent stakes, knife and food (things I don’t mind too much if they lose) and that way my pack can pack down smaller and I can carry it on with my expensive gear :)
@richardross7219
@richardross7219 Жыл бұрын
@@gabicerrahikes With practise you get better at everything and more comfortable. Figure out how you're going to organize your videos, ahead of time. This will save you time on trail and your future self will find things easier when you look back.Good plan using carry on. OSJL had micro spikes and trekking poles on sale a couple of weeks ago. In their online area you can order things that they ship to the store. I've been looking at the camp chairs that are 2 for $50 but you get a $40 gift card to spend later. They call them "Crazy Deals". Look in the sporting goods area, there is no telling what will be there. Also check out the "Eat For Free" area(you pay but get an equal gift card) but watch the expiration dates. They do have interesting imported foods that might be good on trail. You do have to get one of their membership cards. I figure that your boy friend will ship you things as needed. We outfitted our Troop 18 years ago with sleeping bags and tents that were on a great sale at OSJL. Later, I bought 20 poles at $3 each to use with my Boy Scout Troop but had 10 left over so, I took 4 with me last August. Two guys had bent poles so it worked out good. Good Luck, Rick

Gabi, dump the aquamira. You really don't need it. Also lose the headlamp strap. It actually ways as much as the headlamp itself. There are other UL straps that will cut the weight of the whole thing in half. There are other bigger things to suggest but it seems like you already made up your mind so no need to bother you. You will learn as you progress on trail. I guarantee that you will cut and replace a lot of stuff you have now :)

I wear glasses, so I may not know what I'm talking about, but do you need to worry about your contact lens supply freezing? Aren't they packaged in liquid? Also, why not put the bic in with your pot/stove? I'd also recommend the AirPods- the headphone cable is a PITA! I can't wait to follow a fellow western North Carolinian's hike. Waffle (GA-NJ '19, GA-ME '24!!!)
@gabicerrahikes
@gabicerrahikes Жыл бұрын
I actually never thought about the liquid they are packaged with so I just looked it up. Apparently the liquid will freeze down to a low temp, but apparently it doesn’t damage the contact when it thaws out. I guess I can sleep with the bag of extra contacts. And I don’t have the bic lighter in with my stove because it ignites with a button so I don’t really use the lighter!
