My husband and I bought a house in 2021 and I seriously just can’t even comprehend how lucky we were. The market was crazy competitive back then but today’s market is even more wild with the interest rates! Home ownership is SO stressful and expensive, we barely made it within our budget back then but now?? Omg, absolutely forget it. Something definitely has to give. My heart goes out to everyone trying to buy right now!

We bought in 2019 even more lucky but we know have to move closer to the children's hospital in our province (Canada is so huge) and we're facing such high prices. Don't know how anyone not in the market affords 1 million plus for a tear down.

One of my goals this year is to glow up, for me. I don't usually do self care services because ✨ anxiety ✨ but I've been steadily scheduling things like getting my nails done, my hair, booking a new tattoo session, etc. Still working up the courage to try brow lamination and a lash lift/tint. 😅 Sometimes it is true that when we feel like we look good, we feel good too.

I understand you and Drew are very particular on your needs for living, noise, neighbors, location etc.. it's so hard right now with rentals and with purchasing. It's probably even far worse in CA, I can only imagine. It bites that we seem to have to compromise more so than we should have to. Something has to give with this economy 😔 I hope you guys find a good fit for your next home. ❤

HARD AGREE re: the housing market. I live in Oakland & my rent is WILD. My family lives in Ohio but that’s just not where I want to be. My new place is rent controlled & a lot of my neighbors have lived here 10+ years so I’m considering this my long term home & will just keep saving up until the market takes a dip & I can actually afford my own home.

A rent control situation is great! We rented a condo for a few years from a landlord who didn't raise rents when she had good renters. So we probably saved an extra 200/300/400 every month that eventually went towards a house.

I feeeel you about the housing market. My husband and I moved away and bought a house in 2018 but a few years ago decided we wanted to move back closer to family. We sold our house and have been renting ever since and I literally beat myself up about it daily. Like we had a freaking HOUSE that we could easily afford and we sold it and it’s looking more and more like we’ll never be able to afford one again. I really feel for everyone trying to find housing right now. :(

I get the house struggle. I am moving 6 states away to the south so I can afford a house. You basically have to prioritize buying a house over where you want to live. Once our house goes up in value and we have equity we will be able to move back to a place we actually want to live.

I love how you acknowledged that the neighbour stuff is kinda brining up old stuff for you. Rather that just flying off the handle without thinking about why lol. That’s something I’m working on rn like responding rather than reacting and trying to catch myself and think on it when I do have an emotional response. Anyways I love you and would honestly love a whole sit down story time about your annoying neighbours! Miss those days aha but it is a different time🥰

I’ve been a Realtor for 25 years ty outside NYC. My advice is rent something smaller and cheaper for a year. Stay in your area because you love it. look at it like an adventure and Save as much as you can and be ready when the rates come down and they will. The markets are always higher where people want to live - stick to the locations you love and wait 💕💕

Agreed. Plus people tend to think you buy a home and then that's it. Nope, my MIL has owned her home for over 30 years and is still having to pay $800/month for property taxes. Plus, she had a bunch of Californians move next door, demo the original houses from the 50's and build these hugely obnoxious cell block grey mcmansions that literally block all the sun in her yard. Those people suck ass.

I’m so lucky to have a reasonable mortgage at my age. It’s so crazy how much has changed since the last 6 years when I bought my house. But honestly it’s so low of a price that we can never move which is a little discouraging. The average American is so screwed with it comes to buying homes.

Even as someone who lives in the Midwest (my husband got a promotion and their headquarters are here…as are his parents…) and doesn’t have a high mortgage, it’s so irritating and unhelpful when people use their situation to apply some miracle solution to you that isn’t realistic. I find that most sentences that start with “just” are gonna be like that. “Just move to a cheaper state!” …as if it’s that simple. I live in a cheaper area and have land BUT I can’t visit my parents but once a year bc they’re on the east coast and that really gets to me. My childhood friends basically moved on without me even though we still talk. Idk. I don’t blame you for wanting to be nearer to people even if it means paying more. If I had more money I would either move closer or move my family out here lol Side note I can’t wait for your TTPD opinions!

I also think that it is more of an "American" mindset to have the pressure to buy a house because it's "that stage of life" or whatever. The "American Dream" ideal. Fortunately, I think young generations are moving away from that and the current housing market probably is pushing that along. Even in my "mid-west" town that has a more affordable cost of living, I was debating about renting forever. There are a lot of factors, outside of the financial. For those people who like to travel a lot or have to for work, or those who don't wish to deal with house upkeep and costs of maintenance, renting truly may be a better option.

carrie i never comment but your talks about buying houses hit SO close to home. i am literally in the process of buying a townhouse and it's actually in a development my parents originally moved to 30 years ago in our town. its FOUR times the cost as when they bought their unit. its INSANE how much more we need to purchase the place. We bought a house built in 1900 for 50k last year. It's definitely not the prettiest place around, but with some TLC, it has become our home. We unfortunately had to move out of town and have an hour commute, but it beats paying rent. Mortage is 390. Affordable and allows us to save for our forever home ❤ live cheap now to live better later.

We have a house in Michigan. We love it. But owning a house is not cheap and not easy. You have to do what is right for you especially based on what you want and what is available to you. I can't imagine a home being $4 million lol. That is wild. But every state is different. Our house was $100 k and we were going to move to Ohio for work but ended up not being able to because the interest rates are insane and a house like what we have now, in Ohio, would be 3 times as much as where we live right now. We would be in debt, severely. The housing market is chaos nearly everywhere. So, as I stated earlier, do what you have to do and what's right for you. You certainly have my support.

re: rental market. I live in orange county and I feel so immensely grateful that the apartment complex we live in has a rule that the rent can only go up max 5% when you renew your lease. It gives us peace of mind that we can most likely stay put long term while we save. I wish more places had rules like that because renting can make you feel so powerless over your home. Appreciate you being real (as always!) and voicing what so many people are also feeling 💔

Is this a thing in the states you can up with renewing your lease? I'm always confused at youtubers saying their rent is no longer affordable. In Canada where I am you can up it per year to max of 2% but can't up with a renewal of lease other than the max. Can only up the rent to current rental market if the tenants choose to vacate the property

On top of insurance, car loan , student loans etc. oh and let’s not forget health care. My apartment is great but it’s just me and it’s honestly less than average for a 1 bedroom 1 bath place. It’s disgusting how expensive things are. I get it. I’m considering and have dreamed of moving to Florida since I first visited in early 2022 . I live in southern Ontario and our cost of living is similar to that of Southern California. And the housing market across the country is just….WILD!!! There is a house across the street from my parents, just an average 4 bedroom. And literally said “if I win the lottery I’d buy it.” FOR AN AVERAGE FAMILY HOME!?!? It’s over $800,000 Canadian!!! 🤮 I’ve been spiralling about this too. Landlords here are now only accepting new tenants who make over 100k a year. And these are actual garbage apartments. Our Prime Minister keeps saying they are going to tackle the housing crisis, but so far it’s all talk. And our premier (senator) literally only cares about his business buddies (who happen to be developers and landlords). It’s tragic here too. I feel you, girl!! If only I bought a house at 3! ❤❤❤❤

But is not impossible m, I wish there was more information about it! I work in the mortgage business, and it is so bad right now for buyers, and it's gonna take a few years to get back to normal. The ONLY thing helping us non-millionaire folks are various loan programs where it helps with their cash to close and monthly payment. But like I bought my house mid 2020, when rates were low, but prices were high, and my monthly mortgage is under 1k and my rate is under 3%. (I live in AZ). And I am so grateful that I got lucky. Cause even a few years later, my mortgage and rate would be 4x, What I am paying. But I also do feel stuck with this. I love my little house, But it also gives me no opportunity to move if I want to. Things are just pretty crappy all around. But I and I'm pretty sure you too, just try to stay positive as much as possible but we are human and sometimes things get to us, and We are allowed to feel.

We bought a few zyears ago so it was a little better, we couldn't afford to buy where we really wanted to, but we bought in the next city over and got more house for less money, being kid free is an advantage because you don't have to worry about the school system and you can buy in a place with lower taxes.

when I got my teeth whitened, none of the trays really fit my mouth and they kept popping out and gave me chemical burns all over my mouth and lips :) they had to send me with stuff to do it at home instead of in-office and it wasn't as good as it should've been

I use these AsaVea Teeth Whitening Pens from Amazon and they are amazing and don’t make my teeth ache like the whitestrips do. I tried to share a link but it got removed so I’m guessing that isn’t allowed? I think they work great and someone on KZfaq influenced me to buy them and I have no regrets.

1:48 Girl! I am also in a ‘glow up’ era, actually am about a week in. The last two and a half years have been really difficult and have thrown me off (personal stuff, litigation with my ex) and I have *really* felt it. I’ve started showing up for myself, in small ways, baby steps if you will. Your vlogs showing your routines have definitely been an inspiration for me to do better and invest time in myself, for myself. Can’t wait to see the rest of your video! ✌🏼 and ❤️ from Texas.

Housing prices still aren't great here, but if you become a NYC girly, I know some great areas that are close to Philly and NYC that are way more affordable than LA.

Now is not the time to buy a house. The interest rates are so incredibly high. But when you are ready to buy, what you might qualify for is a FHA loan. You wouldn't need to pay the entire 20% down. I think you can put as little as 3% down with an FHA - definitely something to look into! I bought a house in 2021 when the rates were under 3%, my best friend bought a house last year when the rates were 6%. They paid $65k less than we did I think for their house but their payment is more than ours because of the interest rate.

We purchased initially for 4.75% interest in 2016, refinanced in 2020 (at 2.875%) and shortened our term to 15 years and kept our payment within $50 of being the same. We need a bigger house but I CANNOT even imagine buying right now at 7.5%! Like, I don't know how or why anyone is buying!

This is bad advice for anyone who has money for a large down payment and average-above average credit scores. FHA loan locks you into PMI regardless of down payment or equity. Conventional loan will drop the PMI payment at 20% down, which saves on your monthly payment. Conventional typically has better interest rates and less “hoops to jump through” during the buying process, which makes sellers more likely to choose your offer.

You have to find a piece of trash and make it livable😂 I say this from experience. We bought a foreclosure that wasn't livable and now we're making it livable one room at a time. It's literally almost impossible to live on your own and not rely on family nowadays

Carrie. Unfortunately this is happening in Canada also. How kids afford houses today is through their parents. Whether they are on the mortgage so they qualify or they have been given money towards the down payment. I’m in my sixties now, never had a helping hand, and purchased my first home when I was 21. The mortgage rate in my second home was 12%. This was outrageous however, not only are the interest rates crazy today but the price of homes too. 🇨🇦

I bought my house in 2014. Was I ready to buy a house? Absolutely not. I had no idea what I was getting into, and it ended up being pretty much a gut job. Buuuut I'm still glad I did it because I would never be able to afford to buy my house now or be able to afford the rent in my current neighborhood.

Whoever has that $500 mortgage and actually bought that in the past 10 years where is it?? That isnt reality anywhere except MAYBE in West Virginia which isnt where most people are buying. I do pay a mortgage around $400 but thats because my grandpa bought this house 30 years ago when those prices were the norm . I wont even get into the prices of rent 🤮
