I’m obsessed w octopuses 🐙 and have had Remarkably Bright Creatures on my TBR for ages . Soul Of An Octopus is currently my bathroom book 📖 🪱 💚

Have you read The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler? Wonderful scifi novel in which octopodes play a big role.

If you like reading about elder citizents, you have to read a Swedish book called A Man Called Ove. A feel good book about a grumpy man who has to deal with a new neighbour. Might make you shed a tear as well. Tom Hanks played the main character in the filmetazation A Man Called Otto.

I was wondering what the dog had to do with anything 😂😂😂…..Oh my, you just make me have the biggest smile on my face. Thank you for that. A Man Called Ove (pretty much anything Fredrick Backman), The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and most anything by Jodi Picoult come to mind first as recommendations. I’m mad at you though because my TBR list is already so LONG, so I vow to myself that I won’t watch any of your new videos until I’ve whittled it down by 10 or 20 books. Then, of course, my curiosity gets the best of me, and I just HAVE to hear what you have to say, and then more books have to get added to the list…. 😩😊

It's petty, but I avoid Jodi Picoult. She was one of a few authors (basically a group of wh.ite women) that bullied a college student for objecting to beach read fiction being considered for a university read project. The student thought there was a chance/need to read something with more complex discussion opportunities. Jodi and others with big followings piled on her, calling it sexist. Now there's a place for arguing for respect for women's fiction, but I don't think authors need to use their fandoms to bully anybody thinking talking about a book dealing with racism might be a better choice.

Also love stories with elderly characters, especially when they strike up unlikely friendships like in Remarkably Bright Creatures. In Anxious People, Estelle was so my favorite. When they were like she's in Heaven listening to music with one man and reading books with another man....I freakin died.

I am so glad I decided to give this video a chance, you are a joy to watch. Though my list of books I want to read has just grow massively. My go to fiction recommendations are Mr Loverman- Bernadine Evaristo, 100 Years of Lennie & Margot - Marianne Cronin, anything by Fredrick Backman, nearly anything by Neil Gaiman (American Gods is too long as an introduction to his work), This Poison Heart - Kalynn Bayron, Shadow Of The Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafón. Non fiction there are 2 that I always try to recommend, A Drop Of Midnight - Jason Diakité and The Future of Feeling - Kaitlin Ugolik Phillips, I am Not your Baby Mother Book - Candice Brathwaite . Everything else I recommend tends to be based on how well I know the person and their preferences but those are my go to that cover all bases and that I will just randomly buy for people.
