It’s technically a car and a truck dependent on where you live is which one it will be some states say truck, some states say car The frame is the worst part for them to rust there’s a certain area in the rear of the frame where the upper arms are that always rots away and you can’t repair it if you get beyond a certain point, and the whole rear frame section itself is known to rust away

Scotty, I really enjoy all your episodes... As far as your grandson's 1981 El Camino, just where did it acquire those horrid taillights? As the previous owner of a used 1981 El Camino (medium jade green) and a then new 1987 (last year of production - "Hecho en Mexico"), neither one had such taillights. Both sported their taillights mounted in their rear bumpers, just like the station wagons that they evolved from. Wish that I still had my '87 "El Conquisto" dark blue/medium blue version.

Damn I couldn’t imagine going to a car dealership and seeing this brand new. The feeling must of been awesome.

If the owners manual says to use Premium Fuel for your car then yes you need to do so. Damage to the engine can occur due to insufficiant octane for the engine's design.

We used to call them an El Camino, had to throw a section of railroad track in the back, to have enough weight to drive in the snow.

Actually the station wagon has a 2inch shorter wheelbase the frames are not interchangeable .The variable weight rear springs are exclusive to the El Camino as well as the factory air shocks. Most of them have the air shocks removed.

I wish they'd make a El Camino again. Keep it V8, rear-wheel drive like God intended. Too bad they didn't import the Holden version when they were in production.

I thought they did. Britain got a cool Vauxhall, but it was virtually the same.HSV Maloo. Beast.

They brought over a Holden car - I think the called it an "Impala". A co-worker let me drive his and a great car it is. Unfortunately, no Maloo R8 for the US.@@peterbellwood5412

This was mainly a 1980-1989 car. My moms friend used to have one of these in Puerto Rico it was a SS same color fast as hell. I must if been 9 years old. They quickly faded after 1990.

We don't call them pickup trucks here in New Zealand and Australia just like the 40 ford pickup. we'll call that a truck , Because the cab is separated from the bed . Just the Holden and the Falcon with a bed is attached to the cap. We call them Utes [ Utility ]

LOL, my 2010 Lexus ES350 manual claims that I need 91 octane until you read the fine print in later pages. Then you find that 87 octane is OK.

The last year of the El Camino, I was looking to buy a SS model. It was gorgeous but the dealership had an additional $15K markup. The salesman told me that it would be a collector vehicle the very next year. I listened to him Lie to me for awhile and he was telling me that this time the following year it would be worth double their asking price, blah, blah, blah. He guaranteed it. When he said that, I told him to put it in writing and if it decreased any amount of their asking price, then he would have to pay me the difference. Suddenly he realized that I knew that he was blowing smoke. He then back pedaled and said it would be worth double in 5 years. Again I told him to put it in writing. Then he told me that he had an appointment that he had forgotten about and left. I saw him about a week later after I had bought a Datsun 280Z.
