Hello Scott . I have 2017 Ram 1500 Laramie I purchased new pads and rotors to be installed . I’m pretty positive my rear caliber driver side is seized so I will have to get that replace too. My question is can the shop take off my hand break kit and install my brakes while leaving the handbrake off the vehicle ?? The auto parts store guy said it was fine but I would love your opinion on this . Please help me Scotty I have my appointment for tommorrow morning and I need to decide if I want my handbrake replaced or removed ?

I have a 1968 F-250 that I've owned for over 30 years. It's an original AZ truck, with NO rust. I put a new engine and transmission in it last year. 2 door, 2 wheel drive, 8 foot bed, made out of what would be considered armor plated steel these days. No computers, no spy devices, no self driving trash. Just a good solid dependable pickup truck.

As a fleet manager way back in the 90's, we purchased a pre-owned 95' f-250, 351W, in front of a 5 speed manual. After purchase we did a vinyl company (logos) wrap, then installed a power tailgate as to deliver vending equipment on site. The truck was always at solid performer, not a single performance issue. None of today's pickups can hold a candle to these elder workhorses.

@@stevenbrooks1243 yeah but how often does something break on your 2015? How often does it need service and how easy is it to maintain and repair yourself? I've got two trucks a 2000 superduty and a 99 Ranger. The superduty has just over 250k miles on it, the Ranger has 413k on it. As long as you do regular PM they both just keep running. And when something does wear out the parts are usually cheap and the work something you can do yourself.

@@charlesbosse9669 They are cheesy crap, don't care what they look like when a gust of wind blows them back making them point at the ground. 3-bolt points to door stainless frame units with *center mounting point* to mirror frame is the only way to go, they don't have any tendency to blow back and the friction to aim them is adjustable. I agree. Back when the pandemic was going strong and used cars cost way too much and everything available had too many miles, my mechanic found me a 2000 Chrysler 300m for a mere $1200. It had almost no rust, 105k miles, everything worked and it ran perfectly. I figured it would hold me until prices came down and newer, better used cars became available. I changed the oil (synthetic), dropped the trans pan, changed the filter and topped it off with synthetic fluid. Manual called for timing belt and water pump change at 100k so I did that as well. I'm retired and have 2 vehicles so I don't put a lot of miles on them. 3 years later the car is at 110k and runs like a dream. I've changed my mind about finding something newer.

Completely agree! I've been saying the same thing for years. The new ones are way too complicated, way too expensive and not nearly as dependable or easy to diagnose and fix as the OBS from '92 to '96. Hell, even as far back as '87 they had electronic fuel injection (which I found out is not very hard to diagnose and fix) and are very similar to the '92-'96. I have a '95 XL 4.9 I-6 5 speed manual long bed. Everything still works, even the A/C. 225,000 miles. I love this truck.

I owned/bought new a '92 F150 XL 4x4 long box reg. cab, inline 6 cyl, w/5speed transmission, this was the best full size truck that I ever owned. The only mod that I did was mud/snow tires and a cross over metal tool box...I wish that I still owned it!

I’ve had a 99’ Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel for the last 20+ years 325k miles. . I get compliments on it every time I drive it. It is irreplaceable. With continued periodic and preventive maintenance it will last me the rest of my life

My personal opinion, i think all the trucks from the Big Three of this era were good buys. The square bodies from Dodge and Chevrolet, and the second gen Dodge which still had the reliable 318, 360. As well as the 350 Chevrolet. Fords 7.3 Powerstroke and the rock solid Cummins 12 valve. Plus if we go back a few more years you can get one with the leaning tower of power, the 300 Ford or the 250 GM. Manual hubs and manual transmission is the only way to go. I ended up adding manual hubs to my 2005 Cummins.

I’ve got the High Output version in my 1991 Mustang. Runs like perfection. Just a little over 100k on mine. The OG 5.0 will go 200-300k with ease if maintained. Same goes for the 5.8

I have never had old trucks, but have had old cars and older is better when it comes to saving money. It's cheaper to repair an older vehicle then to finance a new one. I have a 2010 ford escape v6 all wheel drive with 186k miles and still dependable. I wish I kept my 1989 Chrysler 5th Avenue. Paid $600 for it and put $1800 over 3.5 years including maintenance type repairs like tires, brakes and oil changes. Super dependable and the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven or ridden in.

I had a 95 F 150 with the inline 6 cylinder and manual 5 speed. It wasn't fast but those inline 6 cylinders were bulletproof. I also has an 83 F-150 with the inline 6 and a 3 speed manual with a granny gear. Whish I still had that one.

I have a '99 F350 xlt SRW super duty V10 manual hub 4x4, 5 speed manual single cab I found in the NC mtns with 99k miles in 2017. Today, has 127k Miles as it does housework and will occasionally drive on road trips. Gets about 14.5 mpg on the highway. Has loads of torque but not a hot rod. No rust in the cab corners as where it usually happens. Unique truck as it appears few were built then and puzzles dealers when I bring it in as they haven't seen one before. WILL hold onto it as long as I can as it'll be my old man truck ! Wanted the 92 to 96 fseries 250 with the 460 4x4 manual but impossible to find. Also, I think Cash for Clunkers claimed many of them. Sad 😢
