I owned two RX-2 Coupes and one RX-3 Wagon. Fun cars. The wagon beat a Ford LTD 400M, one night, stoplight to stoplight. Loved my 12A's. Used to get parts from Racing Beat and Rotary engineering. Mazda announced in 2020 they would make some more 13B parts available from the factory. Check it out. Maybe find a non runner, but complete car. 🤑 After I was done with rotaries I gave the 12A Bridge port templates to a Goodwill store. Wonder if someone used them? Nah, meaningless papers, right?

BMWs used to be amazing cars. Lightweight, easy to drive and to fix, and reliable. That in-line 6 was a great engine. Now they are all plastic, heavy, complicated and are no longer for enthusiasts. Too complicated. Too expensive. Too impossible to wrench on. Can’t even change the oil yourself. These are great though. I SO wish BMW would return to what made them great. Most enthusiasts like me don’t even consider new ones now due to their high cost of repair, complexity, and weight. Lightweight and simple is why everyone went nuts over the 2002, as well the entire 3-series E21, E30, and E36 series. They really started to lose their mantra of lightweight and driver-focus with the E46 (1998-2005) and was completely lost after that. My $.02
@SomeOne_86

Yep, same goes with Mercedes, W124's were absolutely indestructible tanks, now they're all filled with plastic and electronic garbage. VW also ruined their cars by making them complex and using garbage plastic, same goes with Audi which now just serves as rebadged VW's for the most part. If you want a quality car nowadays you can really only buy a Japanese car, everything else is just trying to squeeze profit in every tiniest part, it's really sad tbh.

4:59 Wrong Mr Scotty. When it comes to bmw e30 in the US, majority of customers are looking for the manual transmission and if they buy automatic they usually swapping it to manual. Your red e30 is worth way more than 5k$. Looks like 10K$ at least.

That straight six has a great sound. You could see Scotty was having fun driving it. It's a sad reminder of how our society has come to favour disposability over reliability. It wasn't that long ago that car manufacturers were building cars to last. Maybe with the coming recession and people cutting back on spending, they'll only be buying cars that are going to last, so maybe car manufacturers will take the hint and up their quality again.
@SomeOne_86
@SomeOne_86 2 жыл бұрын
Quality cars still last, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Subaru... If you think all modern cars fall apart like fiats and such garbage, you're just buying the wrong cars. It's sad that german cars are plastic garbage nowadays, '80s Mercedes were absolute tanks, early VW super simple, easy and cheap to repair etc. Now they're all just trying to cram as much electronic trash and save as much money with cheap plastic as they can.

Yeah those things are like tanks. They just keep going. My dad had an '88 320i sedan. That thing he kept for many years.sure the exterior was not pristine and the paint was pretty ugly (like a cream-ish colour) but it was a very reliable car. Always got us where we needed to go and he could easily fix it himself when he needed to. He sold it unfortunately. He bought an '03 E46 estate and that thing has a LOT of plastic in the engine bay. It ain't the most reliable either (tbf it has 241 000 kilometres on it) but yeah. It's not better than the E30. Much less reliable. Much more expensive to maintain. Uses more fuel too. I wish he kept the E30. Dents could have been buffed out and could have been wrapped. Kinda like the E46 but the e30 was just better

The old 80s and 90s era Beemers were tanks, just quality items. Have an early e36 coupe in the same popping red, 140k miles and apart from wear and tear items its never failed in 15 years of ownership. Have an F30 3series as my daily and the thing is a tin can compared the older car.

My car is old. It's a 1976 Mercedes-Benz 450SE. I have no trouble getting parts when I need them (not very often), and it has been the most reliable car I've owned, & one I've owned the longest. In today's standards it's a mundane car, but when new, it cost more than the average house. It still keeps up with traffic at highway speed.

You’re right, my 2006 and 2007 Lexus GS came with cassette players 😂 Of course I hadn’t used cassettes for the last 15 years so they weren’t of any use for me. My wife had one of these, probably an 86 or 87, I can't remember. The car was a blast to drive and it was beautiful Bronzit Beige with a cordovan roof, but what a piece of junk. We had nothing but engine problems, the convertible roof had the cheesy plastic back window and the roof leaked. The leather seats fell apart. The computer on thecdash stopped working. None of the parts or labor were cheap and the car was a burden to own. We switched to Japanese cars after we got rid of that Beemer.

Even when BMWs were supposed be great they were always not only high maintenance but also downright trouble prone. I knew a guy who bought a 1978 525 that never ran for more than two weeks without going back in and often for weeks at a time. I know someone else who recently traded his M4 in at the end of its four year lease. He was on his third motor in four years.
