My dad worked in special education with students like that. There are moments where the students reflect in their actions the dignity and care provided by their teachers and it’s beautiful to witness. I loved going to work with him.

That is an amazing story and she is obviously amazing with kids. I always found that in the 30 + years I worked with kids and adults with special needs they were the most genuine people in my life. They also seem to be able to read people better than anyone. When they are treated with care and respect, just as any one should be, they will return that to you ten fold. There might be some kicking, biting ,and scratching along the way ( and my case a dislocated shoulder lol), but they know who cares and who doesn’t. To the wonderful EA who sent this story, keep on doing what you are doing because you are doing awesome and you are making a difference to those kids.

The nonverbal ones know what is going on. Just because they're nonverbal, doesn't mean they don't know what's going on cause that's NOT the case. Some nonverbal autistic people are some of the smartest most talented people. Some of the autistic people who are verbal are some of the most smartest talented people as well.
