Okay so, this video is a little weird since I rewatch Ghost and Freaking Out first, then break down the whole video at the end. I think the implication is supposed to be that Arthur had no memory of the cave at all; his nightmares are a result of his own suppressed memories, but he doesn't remember exactly what happened. This only makes Arthur saying Lewis's name even more horrifying, because it means Arthur has spent this entire time searching for Lewis because he didn't even know he was dead.

Vivi definitely has closer ties to the whole deal between Mystery and Shiro than we originally realized. MysteryBen revealed a few months ago on his tumblr that Vivi is half-Japanese on her dad's side and even provided us with the kanji for their family name, Yukino (雪野), meaning "snow field". So the blue-haired warrior lady in Shiromori's flashbacks is definitely an ancestor of Vivi's and the snowflake motif on her katana is more than likely an allusion to the family name. Thought you might like to know. Also are we really gonna just gloss over the fact that Uncle Lance apparently SHOT SOMEONE AT THE VERY END THERE!?!?

Did you notice the small sad ghost? I think that ghost is lewis’s conscious and that; the reason its so subtle and small, is because his anger or the scary looking ghosts were mainly what he was mostly feeling.

from what I understand of the flashes, Shiramori was once just a flower, that Mystery(Kitsune) nourished with his blood, turning her flower into a forest. Mystery and his forest fought against Vivi's Ninja ancestor, and she won. Whether this was the moment that Mystery became loyal to her family or if he came to Vivi later down the line, idk. But Shiramori at some point awoke as a full Yokai as her own person, and either needs or wants Mystery's blood for sustenance, which is why she's hunting Mystery. Then during the fight just now, when she sees Vivi and realizes who she is, or at least who she's related to, and looks at Mystery as if to say, "YOU'RE WITH HER?" and he's all sheepish like, "What can I say?" A thing I notice is that Shiramori has a momentary blush before she goes crazy angry. I can't tell if she's all, "YOU'RE PROTECTING HIM!?" or if she's more like, "HOW DARE YOU STEAL HIM FROM ME?!" which I'm very interested in knowing

My theory is pretty painful for everyone involved. I have a suspicion that Arthur doesn't even know he killed Lewis, only suspected he may have died based on the human faces on his map with just the one ghost face with question/explanation points around it. Like he had memory of his friend who went missing and he wants to find him but after all that time began to question if that one ghost could be him. So if he didnt know for sure if Lewis was dead, and didnt know he was the one that killed him, only to see this murderous ghost turn into him before throwing him to his death for a reason he may not even know...... that's the worst. His body language as he falls is of shock and betrayal, and Lewis looks regretful watching him fall... Oh the mess of it all if that's it. Arthur spent all that time looking for his friend who ends up killing him, Lewis was wrong about him, Vivi might see Mystery as a kitsune in the fight which will bring up questions or memories, just in time for her to see Lewis kill Arthur and so then they are on the rocks.... Also maybe Lewis's magic that's now stuck in Arthur's arm may play a role in what happens to him after the fall.

One thing I though was interesting was that there is always a little ghost who looks unhappy with the situation. Makes me believe that Lewis isn't as vengeful as we think. Part of him isn't sure about his actions.

Mystery Skulls is basically Scooby - Doo mixed with anime, japanese mythology and exploring abandoned ancient places gone wrong. O and a pink skeleton getting revenge.

Something you didn't seem to notice or at least didn't mention, in the flashbacks for Shiromori, the flower and the trees are the same colour as her, blue stem/trunks, white leaves, pink flowers. It seems to me like Mystery fed his blood to her when she was a little bud and grew her into a deadly orchard. Looks to me like Mystery was a much more fiendish creature back in those days, and Shiromori considered them to be a couple of some sort til this blue haired woman defeated them. It's possible Mystery was then bound to her bloodline as some sort of servant, which is why he's with Vivian, and Shiromori is so angry. She's a spurned lover, corrupted by Kitsune blood. That's just my takeaway from it, at least.

There is a huge theory going on that Arthur wasn't jealous of Lewis and Viv's relationship cause he likes Vivi, but because he liked Lewis, or that he felt like a third wheel because of their relationship Vivi, her hand may be cut off The Kitsune in the screenshot/ flashbacks has 9 tails, Mystery has 6 in the events of cutting off Arthurs arm and 7 in present day, it is said the older and wiser Kitsunes are, the more tails they will have. So the 9 tailed Kitsune can't be Mystery, but probably an ancestor. Vivi's bat glowed blueish probably due to a house omamori on her bat, they are said to protect people and places when dealing with spirits or demons. Her's said something along the lines of 家内安全 or kanai anzen, meaning: safety (well-being) of one’s family; peace and prosperity in the household Also, most likely Shiromori is after Mystery due to the fact that his ancestor gave her life through it's blood, now she is dying/ running out and needs the blood again. It's also safe to guess that Lewis thought Arthur killed him because of being completely jealous and rageful, when in reality Arthur was taken over by the green spirit/ Envy in the cave.

Both Artsy and Heilos confirmed that there are 2 more in "This arc". So expect more to come!

Good animations always seem to make songs 100 times better

Here's how I think Mystery and Shiromori's backstory goes: Shiromori's flashbacks apparently show that she and Mystery used to be allies at one point. It seems like Mystery gave power to Shiromori by watering her flower with his blood, and in the next scene we see him smiling at the warrior while sitting amidst a forest that carries Shiromori's colors, and if you look at the warrior's arms you can see blue vines trapping her. and the final flashback is the warrior facing off against Mystery. It appears that the warrior was able to bring Mystery to her side and they both defeated Shiromori, now she came back and wants to kill Mystery for his betrayal and, as of Hellbent, Vivi as she realizes that she's the reincarnation of the warrior.

folklore: one way to steal some of a kitsune's power is to cut off one of its tails. Yyou will note that Mystery is a stub-tail now... methinks Crazy Floral Lady is after the last bit of his power-- HIM.

Lewis might have realized that Arthur was regretful and shocked which caused his heartbreak. ALSO GOSH DARN IT I'M SO SAD I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER YEAR TO WATCH THEIR STUFF BUT IT'LL BE WORTH IT

personally, i don't think Arthur was really jealous of Lewis because Lewis was with Vivi, but that Arthur might've actually been in love with Lewis? Looking back on the original Ghost video, Arthur is dejected in the car, but notice how his gaze wasn't originally focused on Vivi, but on Lewis before he turned away. And then in the cave, he actually grabs on to Lewis' shoulders when he gets scared, but that could also be disregarded. I also like this idea because Man, does it make the ending in Hellbent even Worse. There's also the possibility that Arthur actually loved both Vivi and Lewis but once they got together, he knew he'd lost his chance with both of them. That'd result in this really weird bittersweet thing? With Arthur being happy that the people he loves are happy but also bitter because he's alone and (indirect rejection) still really hurts. This all seems a little bit far fetched, I will concede, but we still don't know much about the demon/spirit that possessed Arthur in the first place and killed Lewis. So I think until we get more information, this could be something really interesting to consider!! Loved your video!!

I have a new theory about Shiromori and her relation to Kitsune Mystery after looking at the past visions Shiromori sees: [] All the trees in the forest were dead and decayed, and Mystery found a single flower. [] Sensing a presence in the flower he made the mistake of sharing some of his power with it through blood. [] Indeed there was a presence within the flower, but it was an evil one. The forest grew strong from mystery's gift. Killing any who entered it, evident by the samurai armor. [] Misjudging Mystery as the source of evil, a brave warrior fought against Mystery in an attempt to rid the forest of evil. [] But later stood in his defense against the true evil that finally showed itself, drawn out by the presence of Mystery's blood.

About where the next one is gonna start, well if it's not on Arthur, I might have an idea: At the end, notice where is Shiromori is framed... and notice where the bullet hits at the very end. I think Lance will have saved Vivi by HEADSHOTing Shiromori or at least slowing her down. Also I think Lewis realizes too that Arthur didn't know anything, which would explain his shocked and regretful attitude at the end (and his heart seems more broken than ever, maybe he's realized he just made a big mistake and killed his innocent friend) All in all, stupendous video and reaction :p

i have a whole lot of biz right here if yall want, but its super long, so proceed with caution! 1. shiromori is upset because mystery bled on her to give her life, etc, and they used to be a team and do chaos and stuff together. in the frame where mystery is in his true form, perched up in that tree and staring down at vivi's ancestor who's come to stop him, notice that the entire forest they're in has green bark and white leaves with red flowers. the forest is shiromori. she's upset that now, in this year of our lord, 2018, mystery betrayed her by working with vivi (who she thinks is the ancestor and the one who defeated her and mystery, not some paranormal-obsessed nerd) as opposed to teaming with her instead to do chaos and what have you. 2. lewis is probably heartbroken/upset/regretful because he thought up until this point that arthur recognized him/knew it was him or something. i feel like he thought there was much more malice behind arthur as a person, highlighted by his little story frames and painting arthur as this enraged, bitter boi (he didn't even color arthur's arm green in the frame of him getting shoved off of the cliff! sure, arthur's eye was doing the weird possession thing, but his arm was just flesh colored! i might be reading too much into this but i think that lewis thinks that arthur was just bitter and shoved him off because he could as opposed to getting possessed). up until that point he was probably thinking something like "this man was my friend and i cared about him, and he was so jealous of me in this relationship that he murdered me." lewis might've thought that arthur had pulled vivi away from him in the ghost amv because he was trying to keep them apart, not that he was fucking scared of this random ghost who seems to have a personal vendetta against him. it just added to his rage, his anger, and his idea that his old friend is a terrible, evil person who wants him to suffer. and then lewis realized that he didn't know, after arthur only seemed to recognize him once he saw his face. and now he feels bad that he pretty much just murdered his friend, who he just realized was not as evil and terrible as he thought. i also fully support the theory that arthur wasn't super jealous, he just felt like a third wheel and it made him feel sad and less important. one last thing: the scene with the car and the arm and the electricity could've been so that arthur couldn't fight lewis when he was taking him, but also, the arm stores the electricity. it moved from the car to the arm, and the arm couldn't work because it was overloaded with power, but when arthur managed to move it just enough to touch lewis' arm as he dangled him over the pit, the energy transferred again and that surge of power is what caused lewis' face to switch from skeleton face to human face.

I reacted almost the same way you did-- threw my phone and headphones on the ground and just hypervenalated, did a total freak out. XD I hate them for that.

Surely you expected another cliffhanger after how the last one ended. Vivi will be okay, this one ended with the sound of a gunshot as a hole is blown in the logo, so Lance shoots Shiromori before she can stab Vivi and her having to regenerate from a double barreled shotgun blast will give Mystery enough time to finish his transformation, then the fight is on. If the thing with Arthur in the cave is all an illusion and they are actually still in the back of the truck then Lewis will end the illusion since Arthur saying his name seems to have snapped him back to his senses. If the truck was actually a portal back to the cave then either Lewis will save him or that sad looking deadbeat will. That deadbeat has looked sad through the whole thing, I'm thinking it knows the real reason behind Lewis' death but Lewis has been too consumed with rage to listen to it. They will make it back to help with the fight against Shiromori in the next one. The one after that will likely be Lewis and the gang tracking down Arthur's possessed arm to get the real villain of this story finally. I also noticed less use of the head bobbing. Could Ben be getting tired of having to keep animating it?

I really wanna know what the story behind Mystery is. The new video left more questions than answers yet again and despite that, I am hopelessly addicted and clearly you are too, so I can't wait for the next one and to see you react to that one!

At 10:41 the reason she went to the cave was maybe, she was trying to find a signal (like a wifi) to make the red flower but it wasn't working but when she felt the power the essence of lewis death she regained her power made the 3 flowers and after that she finally formed the red flower she wanted to connect with the dog.. My favorite part about the ending shot of Lewis’ heart break is that, unlike in ghosts where when Lewis wasn’t able to hug vivi his heart cracked down the center, when he realized that he most likely just killed his best friend, his heart straight up crumbled. Also in ghosts it turned light grey, but in this it turned to a very dark grey.

The thing is, Arthur did not know he killed Lewis because he was possessed at the time so he might not have even known that Lewis is dead. Also, Lewis thought Arthur killed him on purpose so when Arthur says "Lewis?!" as he drops him, Lewis realizes Arthur had no idea and it was not his fault, which is why Lewis looks upset at the end.

I know exactly how you are feeling. Also when Lewis died it released an energy that gave him power and erased Vivi's memory, and Arthur didn't remember being possessed but remembers mystery's nine tails form ripping off his arm. So none of them know where Lewis is

Just wanna throw in my two cents after watching the videos another 200 times and seeing what other people have theorized about. I'm pretty convinced that Arthur does not remember the incident in the cave and is still looking for Lewis, thinking that he just went missing or something, but doesn't recognize that the scary ghost that's chasing him is Lewis. It also seems like Lewis thinks Arthur does recognize him and that him pulling Vivi away from him in Ghost was out of jealousy and not just...fear. So at the end of the video, when Arthur mouths "Lewis?!" all surprised, Lewis then recognizes that he just threw his best friend to his death and the poor guy didn't even know wtf was going on. He immediately feels regret. It's also fun to note that even since Freaking Out, one of the Deadbeats always looks upset, like he thinks the whole thing is a bad idea. I'm pretty sure that the Deadbeats are suppose to be projections of some of Lewis' inner feelings/thoughts/emotions, and that little guy is the voice in the back of his head telling him to stop and he doesn't realize it 'til that cliffhanger there. I'm also not...entirely convinced that Arthur was actually jealous of their relationship. I think the flashback shots in Hellbent are how Lewis saw Arthur, not necessarily how Arthur actually was. I could be wrong there, since whatever possessed Arthur in the cave is green which is the color associated with envy and you seem to have seen somewhere that that spirit is actually named Envy. But who knows, it's something to think about. As for the whole thing with Shiromori. It seems way back in the past, Mystery/one of Mystery's ancestors found a little flower that he....enchanted? Gave power to? by dripping his blood on it. It could have been some sort of deal or truce or something, but it looks like that little flower then flourished and developed into a huge enchanted forest that Mystery resided in. Vivi's ancestor, or whoever that swordsman is, confronts Mystery and seems to have triumphed, probably taking Mystery away from Shiromori. I don't think Shiromori is necessarily angry with Mystery so much as she....has quite the addiction problem and has been hunting him down for that sweet sweet kitsune blood. When she grabs onto the van at the beginning is when the lyrics say "Hellbent on drugs cause they turn you on" on top of the fact that when she breaks through the windshield and cuts Mystery's face, her eyes zero in on the blood dripping from the wound. People have pointed out that the current Mystery has fewer tails than the one in the flashbacks, so our Mystery could just be an ancestor and his line was somehow dragged into serving Vivi's family. People also raise a good point with that helmet in the one flashback frame potentially having been the original Shiromori that the bloodthirsty trees use as a vessel, explaining how she is now humanoid. Who knows, hopefully the next video clears everything up because I don't think my poor heart can take another cliffhanger like that ;u ; Edit: Also, looks like they actually plan to make 2 more videos for a total of 5 :P

So a common theory I've seen around is that while Vivi doesn't remember Lewis at all, because Lewis' magic made her forget him so she wouldn't suffer from having witnessed his death, Arthur, due to the trauma of being possessed, killing his friend, and getting his arm ripped off by Mystery, suppressed his memories about the cave incident; he vaguely knew that Mystery had something to do with the loss of his arm, but he didn't remember that he was a kitsune or anything, so that's why he's afraid of him, and he thought that Lewis was wandering around with amnesia like Vivi, and that's why he was looking for him

The map in Freaking Out does tell that Arthur didn’t know about Lewis’s current fate since the circle around the face of the ghost expresses alarm, which would be understandable if you had a killer ghost wanting to kill you for no reason that you know of

I love all the little details in this. After like my 5th watch I noticed when Lewis opens his heart in the truck the blue petals from Vivi’s flowers fall out from freaking out. Also they do a really good job with Arthurs’s arm being limp and moving around from his running since it’s not working. Also note that when Shiromori first cracks the windshield she cuts Mystery and seeing his blood makes her freak out. It seems by he flashbacks that is what she is after. The kitsune blood to give her more power.

the editing when you had a heart attack murdered me

I was at work when I realized Hellbent came out. I screamed so hard at that cliffhanger that my coworkers got scared something was wrong!!! I definitely agree that it was worth the wait! The love the put into it really shows. 💖💖💖

I have another tiny theory. If you go back to Freaking Out, I believe, and when Lewis puts his heart back, you can see a saddened ghost by him, maybe that's a part of him not wanting to take revenge on Arthur. Even in Hellbent you see the sad ghost in the last scene where Arthur is in that place and the ghost in that truck.

Shiromori: Lay down and die with dignity! Vivi: We don’t do anything with dignity! Arthur: Um, Vi? Wanna try ag- Vivi: I know what I said, Arthur!

Two years too late, but... I think what happened is that Arthur's arm - being mechanical (and possibly due to the original both being taken over and then torn off by a kitsune, a mystic afterimage) - absorbed/attracted the magic that Lewis had sent to stall out the van. That's why *immediately* afterwards his arm wouldn't work *but* the van would.

I get that seeing arthur either die or almost die was already pretty mind blowing but can we just realise how heartbroken Lewis looked after he dropped arthur? “It was at this moment he knew, he f’ked up.”

The thing is, Arthur remembered Lewis, he just didn't know the Ghost was Lewis.

It explains why plant lady is so crazy about Mystery! His blood gave her whole life! She must have more of it.

i guess it has been said already.... but i think arthur was possessed. in the previous vids, arthur had these ghoulish transformations in the first one's flashbacks.. now with the tree girl.. mystery and the blue girl were enemies in the past. she left him for dead after a battle , but he made it to the tree before he died from blood loss . his magic blood animated the tree and carried his grudge for the girl. in their next lives they are friends, but the blood marked tree remained and animated itself with mystery's old grudge. the tree wants to kill the girl, but became enraged when she saw the two standing against her.

Did you notice that the 3 little ghosts that are always around him always have the same expressions? They might represent what Lewis feels. And the hole in Lewis’s chest is where the stalactmite stabbed him.

I think Lewis had the same realisation that you did, that Lewis realised Arthur's reaction was confusion. Lewis thought the murder was intentional, but the confusion in his eyes broke his heart and Lewis immediately regretted what he did.

One theory is that Mystery created The flower lady but she became far more powerful than him, feeding off his blood and making him her slave. This makes sense because she's apparently after his blood as we see a literal blood lust in her eyes and two separate scenes showcasing Mystery bleeding (in the car and the flash near the end bleeding on a flower). Vivi's ancestor freed him and he became a bound guardian to her bloodline willing because she saved him and became more friendly and nice over the years, probably not wanting to revert back into his evil self. This makes sense because we never see him harbor any ill will towards anyone, not even Arthur as he could've straight up killed him instead of just ripping off his arm after the cave incident.

Kitty: I"M SORRY, WHAT?! Literally everyone else's reaction to that. (Or at least similar) Me: Oh, um, uh, wait...WHAT THE HOCKEYSTICKS!?!?

After Lewis does drop Arthur and the 5 way panel showing everyone, Looking at Lewis's panel he is showing sadness or some remorse. If you look at his heart locket just as the panels come up, his heart goes from yellow to blue, then quickly changes to gray with more cracks in it.

Here's my theory: that gunshot at the end was Lance pumping tree lady full of lead and then Mystery goes all giant fix on her. Luis is heartbroken but remembers he can control everything in the truck and saves Arthur. And then idk.

I believe Lewis heart broke because he realized Arthur didnt forget him because he I think he thought Arthur killed him so he could have vivi and not care about him but after Arthur said his name he realized Arthur still remembered him

About, the sad ghost that consistant shows up people keep saying it's lewiss conscience. I think it's the part of lewis that feels saddened and betrayed by arthur. His rage and desire for revenge keep it pushed down hence the size differences.

So best I can tell Arthur doesn't remember killing Lewis. He's still looking for him and thinks he's alive. He and Vivi lost their memories from that night for some reason. Arthur's arm transfers the curse from the van to his arm rendering it broken (Lewis can curse mechanical devices as seen in Ghost)

Notice that the tree that Mystery is laying on and is surrounded by in that art is the same color of Shiromori.

A little cameo that most people miss during Ghost is the priest from the original music video (the band’s version) as one of the paintings in the hall

If you see the bat that BB use to confront shiromori you can see in the minute 19:44 since 19:47 that the bat start to shine blue aura , and after , you can see a seal in the base of the bat in the minute 19:48. I think that BB was the kunoichi (Ninja woman) in the past , and shiromori was the flower or the Bonsai tree , or the two. Because we saw that Mistery (Kitsune form) pour he blood in a flower , and the most probabli is that this blood are magic transforming the flower into a forest. In case no one spotted this Shiro blushes after looking to mystery for answers and gets enraged at his response. this most likely means Shiro is either A: Vivi's ancestor or B: a distant relative but the main point is she sees mystery as her mortal nemesis and the fact that he shacked up with her descendant/exact lookalike (with no good reason that would satisfy her) threw her into a blind rage greater than her general hate of mystery. also it can be inferred that the Shiro gets cursed by the tree that bloomed from the flower as it has the same color scheme as her and this would mean she lost her fight with mystery somehow and this could be why she's so pissy

On the second video, when Arthur was looking his laptop you can see a map with some Lewis faces (he is searching for him) and other that is Lewis in his ghost form, so that mean that he didn't know that Lewis was also the gosth that was haunting him. Remember how Arthur's arm got shocked? Well pay attention to this mechanical arm at the end before Lewis drops him. That surge travels back into Lewis. It may be that in those final seconds just after our spiky boy was dropped, the vengeful ghost was suddenly caught up on what happened. Arthurs memories, or what he remembered, or what happened to cause him to do the original shove, may now be known to Lewis. Other than the awful wait for the animator to pour all the crazy detailed work into the next animation, I'm curious to what tune they're going to use! The waiting though, hnnng. The layered hidden details. The creator behind this is something special. Can't we clone 'em a few times to speed this up? Or get like, some unrelated animated series from them once this stuff wraps up? Hng.

if not that... then... mystery kitsune raised a cherry blossom grove using his own blood as nourishment for the trees. mystery kitsune had already slain samurai shimori, as seen with the dropped helmet, but was himself slain by the vivi ancestor. over time shimori revived with the trees and a mystery craving for more power.
