This is my home lab server and wiring setup tour. This started out as simple way to manage a bunch of wires without the need or want for a patch panel. It was then expanded to include two desktop PCs running as servers that are side mounted to the wall.

Looks pretty good Jay. You have pretty good luck with those dumpster finds. I have a 9010 SFF on the floor running pfsense.

Here is another vote for an updated tour... also, I'd be curious to hear more about the two MT boxes and their specs for what they're doing.

Interested in more on your freepbx setup. I used setup Astrix at a college rental over 10 years ago and had a blast with that. Everyone appreciated having their own voicemail and feeling like they had a dedicated phone in their space. This was before everyone had cell phones with unlimited plans.... So the system really got used with incoming and out going calls all the time.

I actually stopped using FreePBX and switched to 3CX. It is a lot easier to use and I have ran across it in use at big venues so I thought I would start to learn it.

Looking back on this, I'm guessing you still have spectrum and still have like 30 Mbps up but pay double 😅

I get 400 down, about 10 up and pay $85/mo.

@@TVJAYI wish they'd get more symmetrical with their plans. I finally had AT&T dig fiber to my house and jumped ship immediately. I was on 1000/35 on Spectrum for a few years at $130/month. AT&T came and now I'm getting 1300/1300 for $85/month!

@@TVJAY Yeah, it's so rough not having options :( I helped my cousin get Starlink set up, but that's not quite as good as cable.

$75 for 100 meg 😬. Might want to see if they have lowered their prices at all since you signed up.
@TVJAY
@TVJAY 2 жыл бұрын
It looks like the price is the same (after the promotion period) but they have doubled the speed so I will have to call them and get the faster speed.

That is a very nice setup. I’m wondering about surge protection. I believe that power strip is a non surge protection strip. I myself would add a surge protector on it. That is just me. Also are you planning on having an UPS? Other wise you did a great wiring and mounting job. Better then me I tell you.
@TVJAY
@TVJAY Жыл бұрын
I don't have surge protection or a UPS at this time. I really need to do both.

I like the way it looks. How exactly are the cases mounted?
@TVJAY
@TVJAY 2 жыл бұрын
I used corner brackets designed for cabinets or fences (I can't remember exactly) under the cases and then put one screw through the side near the top to prevent them from leaning away from the wall.

I'm pretty sure that your Trunas box is an Optiplex 980 based on the case design 😅

I've worked on and recycled so many of them I can spot them from a distance. It also could have been an Optiplex 960, but I figured with the 10Gb card that wouldn't make much sense.

The 980 is a good machine. I have had around a hundred or so of them pass through my hands, I can't recall any issues I had with any of them.
