I'm living here now, just finishing my second month. It's a temporary apartment while we house hunt. The funny thing is, I've been loving every minute here, so who knows? It might wind up being permanent! Thanks for the walkaround and the history! I see it all on the thrice-daily dog walks, so it's nice to know the history. A bunch of things are still changing. The pizzeria (Dom's) is still healthy; the old drugstore across from it is now condemned. The old bank is an empty lot, and I'd wondered what used to be there. Parente's is now Club 80's, some sort of nightclub, and Esther's Treasures next door is now a pet groomer. Rumphshaker's is now Krick's and is one of the busier places in town.

Hey fella I agree with a lot of what you lived and learned. It’s the same for me. We rolled down Short St. We had a watch out and typically somehow Trafford people listened to stop for the kids. The B Y Park the grants that were written by my dad and several members of the community to create a better environment for the whole community. Donations were appreciated and loved. I’m glad to see community members mentioned everywhere.

Your story is quite similar to mine! I grew up in Jeannette Pa in West Moreland County and moved to New York. While growing up in Jeannette my best friend Ronnie Evans moved from Jeannette and moved to Trafford. Ronnie was a great little baseball player. Him and I grew up on the baseball field in Jeannette. Ronnie went on to become a teacher and a baseball coach at Penn-Trafford high school. Small world!

Yes it is Kevin. A small world 🙂

@@mylifein75sqft87 as youngster in Jeannette I played football for the Jeannette Midgets back in the 60s, ‘63-‘67. At that time Penn and Trafford didn’t have any midget teams. All those kids had to come to Jeannette and play for the Jeannette Midgets. I played with some great football players from Penn and Trafford. When Penn and Trafford joined together Jeannette Midgets lost all those players. In 1967 Penn-Trafford started their own Midget teams, The Penn-Trafford Indians. One name stands out in my mind who was a great running back I played on the Jeannette Midgets with then in ‘67 he played for Penn-Trafford his last name is Martini. This kid could run the ball. He was big fast and elusive. Those were the days.😊
@mylifein75sqft873 ай бұрын
@@kevinmcclainsr.2706 yeah, Martini had big legs, so he wasn't easy to bring down. He could hit a baseball far too.

@@mylifein75sqft87 yea I know! As well as playing with him on the Jeannette Midgets. I had to play against him when he played with the Penn-Trafford Indians 13 year old team. He ran all over us. My friend Ronnie Evans father was Mayor of Trafford I do believe. I remember as a youngster Ronnie’s father played softball in Crabtree. He was a great player too.

As a 12yo in 1961 I lived in Wallace Trailer Park and would walk to the passenger train in Trafford and ride it to Swissvale to visit my grand parents in Swissheilm Park. 50 cents

I lived in Trafford from when I was born, 1953, until August 1964. My families were the Pogues (Fairmont) and the Erwins (6th). I went to St. Regis Catholic School.
@mylifein75sqft874 жыл бұрын
Wow. That's really nice. Everyone knew the Pogues, he was the Dr. I remember the Erwin's. I haven't lived in Trafford for a lot of years now, so I forget some things. I had lots of friends that went to St Regis. Thanks for commenting.

Hope it was Dr. Pogue who treated you when you got hurt?!?! I know there is a statue of him in BY Park. My mom was Florence Pogue and my dad is Ed Erwin, both from THS 1950. Loved when you talked about the stores on Cavitt Avenue. I remember all the stores you mentioned. Have they torn down the old Trafford Inn/Mellon Bank building yet? Does the Trafford Historical Society know about your video? It has a great Facebook page (Andrew Capets runs it, I believe?!). Barbara Erwin Horch

interesting video. i had a chance to explore your town last summer, thanks to that trail, and i loved it. i do believe that one factory is still operating, producing specialty steel(?). i rode back there to explore, and there were people driving back there to go to work, presumably. still an all-around sad story tho. those empty parking lots, that were prolly full at one time with employees. Now theyre just vacant, a weed garden.

I grew up in trafford! Swimming at the falls was the best as a kid.
@mylifein75sqft872 жыл бұрын
Do you mean the falls under the bridge? I used to swim/dive there. Or do you mean at the Bend? There was another place we called hidden valley it something like that. I think it was up by Ligonier. Where did you live?
@Empty77752 жыл бұрын
@@mylifein75sqft87 we swam at the bend sort of by the brickyard and right across from the B.Y. but the falls under the bridge were 100x more fun because we could jump off the wall on the Westinghouse side, the falls, the big pipe under the bridge or the cliff from the row house side of the falls. We played baseball at the park you have in the vid but they shut it down for a long time due to PCB’s whatever that is. For me and my buddies from first street, the terrace and south trafford it was a very unique place to grow up. I forgot to talk about all the dirt bike riding, even used to ride with winterbottom if you know him. What a blast. I recognize all the houses there in your vid. Especially the ones behind the best fish sandwich place ever KH Katering…. Puts fat zackles fish to shame

@@Empty7775 I used to dive off the wheel that controlled to dam under the bridge. It's a wonder that nobody got hurt diving into that water. If you know Jimmy Winter bottom, you might know my brother, Steve V. He was good friends with Jimmy. I worked at Caruso's gas station which was owned by Jimmy's grandmother. I had friends from 1st Street as well as South Trafford.
