I just saw on Doug and Stacy’s channel about youtube unsubscribing people from channels and sure enough I was unsubscribed from their channel and checked yours and the same thing. I had to resubscribe and now having to check all my favorite channels. So just a heads up to everyone, double check your favorite channels to make sure you are still subscribed.

You are very resourceful. During the Christmas season our church has a candlelight service and toss the old candles. I request them so they don't go in the landfill. I melt down the candles, use paper mâché egg cartons, melted wax, dryer lint or small pinecones for our fire starters. I like to gift them to my camper friends or those that heat with woodstoves. We will be taking them on our camping trips to the Manisee Forest and the Cabin in Newberry.

I have a similar space! I just decluttered my excess containers and jars because I just don't make as much as I used to, also I don't make as much as I used to now that there's actually some great alternatives that weren't around 10 years ago.

For your 'soap' molds, you can simply place parchment paper over the word in the mold and it would probably not imprint on the product so you can use it for lotion bars, shampoo bars, or other solid products other than soaps. Just a thought. Thank you for showing some ideas on making a dedicated space for my cosmetic ingredients and supplies!

Thank you for sharing. I've made many of these things in the past and collected some of the makings for others. But illness, physical issues, a major move, rehab, and financial set backs during the last 5 years, set back my plans. Things are so much improved now and I hope to get back to it soon. You're video has relit that interest. Our little one acre was a complete blank when we moved here and now we have several large garden beds, some trees and shrubs planted, and are getting going on native grasses and flowers. One thing I made certain of was to get a medicinal herb garden started. So much to do, but don't want to sit still in retirement. Thanks again.

This was super helpful and so well organized! I remember my mom and our old neighbor and family friend, making soap in the summer time in her basement and back yard and they used lye. I remember that soap smelling so good! But as kids, we were always told to stay far away from their soap making process! I have made soap with shea butter, but I’m afraid to use lye. Maybe one day, I’ll get brave!

Shampoo: I have been experimenting over the last ~30 years to make my own shampoo, but so far, nothing works satisfactorily enough to totally ditch my store bought brand (Acure). I have used shikakai in the past but didn't like the results. I just searched your channel name with "shampoo" and wondered if the video you posted 4 years ago is still how you do shampoo? I have long hair (almost to knees), but it's straight and the follicles are naturally fine / thin. Dry scalp: once a week I massage warm herbal oil into my scalp and a little into the rest of my hair. I let it sit for a while and then shampoo it out. I make the herbal mixture, but even just using a single oil is better than nothing. Or virgin sesame oil with a few drops of rosemary essential oil. This does wonders for your scalp!! I've been doing this specific ritual / habit for several year, and it totally eliminated my dry scalp issues. (I used to always have dandruff flakes falling onto my shirt, and my eyebrows were always flaky, too. No more.) I have an old green metal military dresser for most of my body care and home care stuff 😊. I have a few other spots where I keep things, too. I'd love to figure out a place where they can all be together, but it hasn't happened yet. My soap making things are under my bed, my herbs are in my bedroom closet, and my tinctures and essential oil copper still are in my pantry. 😂 I guess at least I know where everything is. I make all of my own body and household things except shampoo, laundry soap, and dish soap. I used to make the laundry soap ... tried it for a few years. None of us liked it, and it didn't do good on the boys' farm and work clothes ... especially once my youngest started welding. So I've just been buying a 5 gallon bucket of Azure's laundry powder and I'm very happy with that. I'm glad they started offering it. Anyway... thanks for sharing. ❤ Joanne in SW MO

My house is such a point of stress for me. It is about 970 sq. ft and storage is sparce. It has a full basement that would be ideal for storage, but unfortunately, it floods on repeat from April through September. I want to start projects like this, bulk food storage, canning, etc. Honestly it feels like something I feel called to do, if that makes sense. But I don't want to dare store food or anything down there that is susceptible to mold. Which leaves me with no place to store any of it, so I don't do it. Just curious if you or anyone who reads this has to deal with flooding in the place you depend on for storage and any advice if so. Much love.

@cynthiafisher9907

I have made my own for years. I use Fels Naptha laundry soap bars, borax and washing soda. I cut the bars up, grate them in my food processor, then blend that up with the blade. Then I mix it with the borax and washing soda. 1 bar of Fels Naptha to 1/2-1 cup of each of the powders. It works great! I put it in the tub of the washer instead of the dispenser because it has clogged up the dispenser before if it isn’t ground up fine enough. I use about 2 Tablespoons per load. I make a lot at a time and do the food processor outside or put a towel over it because of the dust. Fels Naptha is great stuff, but it can be hard to find these days. I think they sell it on Amazon, but it might be more expensive there than in a grocery store.

The word you are looking for (concerning palm oil) is 'sustainable'. I'm glad you learned better and stopped using it.
@PurePeace20
@PurePeace20 7 ай бұрын
Perhaps the word you were looking for with the palm oil was "sustainable"? I know that there is a concern that some sources of palm oil cause rapid deforestation. Because of a rapid increase of world wide demand by companies that use palm oil in their products, in some parts of the world they have been cutting down rainforests to grow more palm oil crops. However, in recent years many brands of Sustainable Palm Oil have come to market. Sustainable brands have Certifications by organizations promising no deforestation occurred to grow it and also no exploitation of the people who worked to grow and harvest the palm oil (fair trade practices). Just buy a certified sustainable brand and tell your viewers it is ethically/sustainably sourced. I buy sustainable organic palm shortening to use for baking instead of Crisco. It's the only thing that I have found that acts just like Crisco for things like pie crusts and greasing pans.
