I cried first time I heard this song. Just such a beautiful and sad yet somehow uplifting song.

Do you think that maybe the "small but stubborn fire" that warms her during the "fiercest storms" is her way of referring to Matilda?

Briony Richards The house with the fire at its heart is a metaphor for the soul, if you will, or our inner strength, beauty & integrity. The storms are a metaphor for the hard times in life.

Briony Richards I think so because she started singing that lyric you could hear a young girls voice or it could be her memories of her has a younger child with her family that keeps her going

Being stubborn is not a bad thing, only sometimes. When it comes to bullies though, you have to stand your ground and find your small but stubborn fire, your inner strength, or inner child. Don't give up.

I saw this show almost two years ago. I remembered this song as I can relate. I want so badly to move away from where I am now that I don't care if I live in an apartment the size of a postage stamp as long as I had some place where I could be happy.

In the show, as she is singing, her dead father comes out from behind center stage. He walks up to her, like his ghost has always been there for her trying to say sorry for leaving. And that's when Matilda realizes, as she is holding evidence (Ms. Honeys scarf), that she is the daughter in the stories she has been telling.

Princess Gold Boots it's kind of an inside joke between me and my friends honestly. we were singing karaoke songs on youtube and did beauty and the beast and tried to imitate mrs potts, and we were all laughing while we did b/c of how over exaggerated our northern accents were. my best friend has a really thick nothern accent too so it just added to the hilarity so we could make fun of her in a teasing way lol. then we moved onto karaoke of really serious and depressing songs like creep by radiohead and one of us started doing a mrs potts voice for it despite us trying to take it seriously so by then we were laughing hysterically and couldnt breathe and just kept doing mrs potts impressions. so, naturally, mrs potts has reached a meme status in our lives and is a constant running joke. so when i heard the slightest hint of a mrs potts accent in this song, which i was totally digging until the 'for tea' part i instantly started laughing and i cant take this song seriously for that reason alone. i gave you a long and rambling explanation since you asked the reason so have fun reading it. if you cba, ik tf.

Lyrics: My house - Matilda This roof keeps me dry when the rain falls. This door helps to keep the cold at bay. On this floor i can stand on my own two feet. On this chair i can write my lessons. On this pillow i can dream my nights away. And, this table, as you can see, well, it's perfect for tea. It isn't much, but it is enough for me. It isn't much, but it is enough. On these walls i hang wonderful pictures. Through this window, I can watch the seasons change. By this lamp, I can read, and I- I am set free. And when it's cold outside, I feel no fear. Even in the winter storms, I am warmed by a small but stubborn fire, and there is no place i'd rather be. It isn't much, but it is enough for me. (2x) For.. this is my house. (2x.) It isn't much, but it is enough for me. this is my house. (2x) It isn't much, but it is enough. (Don't cry.) And when it's cold and bleak, (please don't cry.) I feel no fear. Even in the fiercest storms, (please don't cry.) I am warmed, by (let me wipe away your tears) this small and stubborn fire. (Forgive me.) Even when outside it's freezing, (I didn't want to desert you.) I don't pay much heed. (I know that i hurt you...) I know that everything i need is in here. It isn't much, but it is enough for me. (2x) (hope you enjoyed!)

Recently saw Matilda in London... This song started and I thought it would be truly beautiful.... I then seriously disliked it as it was sung so hard and the particular actress, although very good, put far too much belt and hardness in the sound quality..... Came over this version and realised its actually a very beautiful song, but I personally much prefer the mix of gentle, soft and then defiant moments that this singer gives... Just an opinion!
@jesscarrier41804 жыл бұрын
Ellie Dowling This version is very beautiful, but my favourite version of this song is Tim Minchin (the composer) singing it at the Oliver awards. He also does an amazing job of contrasting the quiet/soft moments with the powerful ones. 😍
