I think some of the most frustrating advide comes from people who got married to someone they met in school growing up, or someone they met in college in one of their classes. No duh you ran into someone, you were around a lot of people all the time. When you're out of school or in your 30s or later, those social circles get incredibly smaller. Ive had other guys my age, in their 30s, say that theyre glad theyre already married because they have no idea how theyd find someone now, but they think its cool to just give me cliche advice. "Just go out and do things" yeah, I know. A lot easier said than done for that to actually work.
@AJPM802
@AJPM802 Ай бұрын
Facts. Pursuing what you're passionate about is good advice only in so far as that dedication bleeds over into other areas of life and goes toward what makes you interesting. If your hobbies are stereotypically masculine or feminine good luck finding someone directly that way. Also most hobbies and jobs have very little if anything to do with what's actually important in marriage. Would much rather have someone with the same core values and mission who just says "oh, cool, that's nice" about what I do for fun than someone who simply likes the same things and the rest is a crapshoot.

It's definitely harder when you're not in school. But don't give up because it also happens all the time! Met my husband as an adult and I really did have to go out of my comfort zone and consistently get out in order for us to meet, but we did!
@manubishe
@manubishe Ай бұрын
Easier said than done? Being an adult gives you freedom to both choose what, and to what extent. Do a bit of everything? Go juggle Drilling that one subject? Guess what, there will be others doing either that, or stuff in the vicinity. If you aren't isolated in your schedule (doing night shifts and/or in a far off place), big chances you'll be in a place adjacent to your passion.

Sometimes a person can be doing all the right things and it just takes time to find the right person. Doing things you enjoy and trying to find people doing and valuing the same things is good advice - but it still can take time and doesn't always seem to work out that way. When you are single for many years, you have to balance keeping a place open for a person in your life and actively doing things to find someone while going on with your life and not waiting around. You have to balance some grief of not having a loving relationship without shutting off your emotions of wanting a loving relationship so that you can be open to it when it comes. That's often not easy. Much love to everyone "chronically single" and working through these challenges to find their person! ❤❤❤

@NikosM112 Men and women both often have to go through all these things. I was speaking from my own experience, and I am a woman who has not gotten married yet and who has been single for many years. If you're a religious person - I don't fully know why some of us have to wait so long to find our person and why others don't but I know God is aware of us.

@@aliciamoulton6876 God doesn't exist. Keep coping. Life is based off of luck even if you are trying your best. I gave up. I'll spend my life on other things rather than wasting time and money on dates with women who have a shopping list of men.
@aliciamoulton6876
@aliciamoulton6876 15 күн бұрын
@NikosM112 I completely respect that you can see things differently (which is why I prefaced the part of my prior comment about God with "if you are a religious person"). But as for me, I have had so many experiences that have shown to me that God does exist and is involved in my life and of those who seek him. And so I choose to have faith in him. There is a lot of luck in life and a lot that is not fair. By believing in God, I don't believe that everything is scripted or meant to be. But there can be great growth and redeeming value that can come out of difficult things and through the process of listening to your intuition (including the times when you need rest and a break), making decisions, having courage, etc. Everyone needs to decide the best ways to use their time and energy. I wish you all the best!

As someone pushing sixty who has been through the worst and is now learning to do my best, the advice I would give is to set your goal to learn to be the best partner you can be as you research what healthy relationships look like, then keep your eyes open for someone who is on the same journey. Neither of you will be perfect, but, as long as you are both seeking to perfect yourselves, you will have a training partner for life.

The actual advice is: Be tall and handsome. If you can't, get rich.
@swegboy0238
@swegboy0238 Ай бұрын
If you're medium-short, poor and like to stay indoors, like me, then work on an education or a career as well as yourself. Working out(rarely weightlifting, mostly body weight), broadening my interests, exploring the political spectrum, and studying to apply to a trade school to restart my career in a field that interests me, all helped to build my character, and now I have a short queen who's fallen in love with my personality, drive, and chivalry. We met on a dating site because I didn't want to have to go outside and hit up bars and things, but using dating sites was some of the most damaging things my self-esteem has gone through. It was torture to get rejected and ghosted for months on end, but once I finally got into talks with this girl we quickly started to talk about what we wanted from a relationship, and the rest is history. The trick is to not be a draining person to be around. Become content in your lifestyle or change it so you can be content with it, and either you will come across someone, or you will have to make small excursions to put yourself out there. Being miserable is not attractive.

I don’t think it’s bad advice but I will say that sometimes you can do “all the above” and you still don’t find anyone. I’ve been single a long time, never been the person to make it my identity, I’m apart of groups where I do what I love, been open to relationships and dating with intent…..still single 🤷🏾‍♀️ Yall are cute so cute! I think that's kind of the point. If you say you're chronically single and make that your identity, then you're going to stay single because it's who you are.. I think your situation is different because you're NOT calling yourself chronically single and it seems as though you're actively pursuing a relationship. And, if you want a relationship and are doing the work to find one, you're eventually going to get it. Be patient. It will happen. I wish you so much luck in your journey! Also, yes, Brett and her husband are absolutely adorbs! ☺️☺️

@@amandaturner4991I’m sorry but I feel like you missed the overall point of the comment, and it’s unfortunately the reason people get sick of hearing the same advice of “Improve yourself as person, someone will come.”, which obviously isn’t quite what Brett, her husband, or you or saying, but it’s something that needs to be addressed. Sometimes you really can be doing everything correctly, whether its appealing to what the other gender or your sexual preference wants, or improving yourself so you’re a whole person. You can still wind up alone despite that. Dr.K from HealthyGamerGG put it in a “correct” light. Yes these things and advices tend to work best compared to some others, but it doesn’t mean following it will result in someone finding their other and until collectively everyone can admit that there could actually be fundamentally nothing wrong with someone and they could still be single throughout their life regardless, I don’t know how well the advice can truly be applied.

I never heard the term chronically single until like a few weeks ago. Despite this, I have been single my entire life since I first started taking an interest in girls, at age 12-13, and I'm now on the edge of turning 36. It does not define me. But equally I have engaged in all sorts of things that I enjoy, but clearly I'm just too physically unattractive to women to be desired as more than a 'friend'. I've known it for some time now, but haven't really accepted it until entering my 30s. The joys of being average looking.
@yanise1625
@yanise1625 Ай бұрын
Let me tell you something, is not about your looks. Many men who are average or not good looking at all are able to find someone. I think men who this has happened to need to work on their personality and the energy that they carry. Men who give off a manly vibe will attract more people from the opposite sex than men who give a shy, feminine, not confident vibe, regardless of their looks. Perhaps is not that you are not good looking, but the energy that you are putting out there. Are you clean, confident, social? Are you able to lead, make a woman laugh? Or maybe you are not funny, so you can't make her laugh, but are you able to make her feel safe and protected? Are you street smart? Are your testosterone levels healthy? There is so much that can affect this, so please analyze your situation and make the appropriate changes before you think it is over for you. This is coming from a woman.

i think the "chronically single" are the ones who are making bad faith attempts at romance & then decide they have a condition lol or that it's the fault of the Women. i am a firm believer that the best marriages have the foundation of friendship (sure one of them usually has an "oh im gonna pursue this person" attitude) & that is what makes strong marriages last. at the end of the day the initial head turn attraction IS fleeting, easily chased away by personality or even just time as you age; but when you simply enjoy someone for who they are you can build a lifetime of intimacy off that because you value them as a person & actually desire to love & respect them. i think the chronically singles are the ones who only seek gain from a relationship, they dont treat it as a two way street & they're shocked that they get rejected more often than not

As a guy that has tried dating apps on and off for about 10 years, I've been on about TWO dates from them in total, not for lack of trying or having some basic common sense and understanding that any relationship entered into involves compromise and sacrifice. I even had to drive 3 hours to get to the most recent date I had in February, and if that isn't sacrifice then I don't know what is. Women only swipe right (like) a guy's profile in 2 to 5% of times, meaning for every 100 men they look at they are only interested in the look of 2-5 and not interested in 95-98 of them!!! For men however it's more balanced and between 40-60% of women's profiles that men are interested in, pretty much equal to a normal distribution of attractiveness, where factually speaking the majority of people, regardless of gender, are 'average' looking. When women are considering their shopping lists for men, and choosing the ones to go on dates with their selection narrows to just 1 to 2% of all the men they've come across after they've had the conversations. But do still feel that it's about bad faith, despite me having swiped on over 100,000 women at this point 👌🏼

to the youngins in this thread; dating apps are not a great way to actually find people. it is important to know someone decently well before you engage in any sort of romance so that if you two decide to part ways it's easier to think straight. so many of my friends who have messy breakups are because they can ONLY associate that person with romance not any other qualities or personality traits. also his advice is true; if you want someone you will enjoy spending forever with, you will find them doing things you already like! my husband & i met through mutual friends because we were all very relaxed & outdoorsy in college as opposed to the people who needed substances to have fun, for as much 'work' as it takes to communicate well in intimate relationships, its infinitely easier when you have the foundation of friendship not just quick romance. wish you all the best, dont let the internet make you think there's no one out there for you😉

This is actually good advice. Life is more than relationships and sex. Take it from me, I am a 22 year old virgin. All my friends are either in serious relationships or have one night stands like on a weekly basis (one of them slept with like 8 different girls in 10 days). Sure I get annoyed at the fact it isn't happening for me. I tried online dating, I asked girls out, hell I even went on dates and they went reasonably well. But sadly, something about me just isn't attractive. I don't read people good enough, I miss signals or I see them where they aren't. Also you start to lack confidence with girls because you have no clue what you are doing while experience (at 22) is expected. But at the end of the day I am in medical school and studying to become a doctor. I look in the mirror and I like the way I look (could work out a bit and loose a little weight, but I really like how I look), I have wonderful friends and family, I am never short on money and I can do so many awsome things. And I am sure in time it will work out, and if not I'll get 2 dogs and get to be a doctor and still come home to loving housemates.

@@gagewesterhouse9558 you really think it's more fullfilling to have sex and relationships, than build towards a succesful career and other meaningfull relationships. Your youth is about exploring yourself, devloping as a person and having fun experiences. You can do all those things without having a relationship. If you go out there and force relationships you don't actually want or wallow in your sorrow for being single while ignoring everything else in your life you will become very depressed and a very annoying person overal. Or you just assume everybody like me is a total loser anyways and lose any interest in my actual words? Because that would just make you a small minded pathetic person to be honest.

While I agree that no one should make being single their entire identity, it can be very difficult not to dwell on that fact. I don't want to get too personal, but I have a close family member who has been wanting to be married for years and dated with intention-telling these partners exactly what she wants/needs-only to be met with men who wasted her time and turned out to be non-committal. I just feel like dating nowadays is extremely difficult and it's easy to say "just know what you want" or "try harder" when there are too many "men" nowadays who are, frankly, cowards and they are afraid of marriage and children. Anyway, just my two cents. I'm genuinely glad you guys are happy 💕

^^^ THIS! I just got broken up with my bf of over a year 2 days ago. He lost his job and crumbled. Never picked himself up and didn't try that hard. 3+ months and he still hasn't exited out of the pity party. Didn't even try that hard in our relationship. Only so much encouragement and support a woman can give. He ended it as a temporary thing and I responded with, "Don't come back, we are done now and forever." To be quite honest, he was never ready for a serious relationship, and he has a lot of growing up to do. Didn't have to be this way. If he had put in effort to find a job and work through some communication problems between us, this wouldn't have happened. I was more than willing to stick by his side, but I can't grow him up for himself. Sucks, because I did vett and qualify. I was super careful after the breakup I had with the man before my current ex. He sold me a lie of commitment, too. Sucks when I keep ending up with weak men no matter how careful I am about vetting.

Women, listen to "The amazing development of men" from Alison Armstrong. Men go through different phases of development and are only ready for commitment once they reach a certain stage. There is nothing we can do about it, no way to speed things up. So the best thing we can do is learn to identify the different stages in the men we are dating and identify for ourselves if they are at a stage where they might be ready for commitment, independently of his words.

My main advice is, look more in your own neighbourhood, especially on the weekend, when people are more free and not stuck in an office. Or look at the supermarket right after commute. Then you will find the peolle of active age, out of their cages (houses and offices). Make eye contact if you are too shy to talk to them. Eye contact is so important. Really look at people instead of just walking past everyonr assuming they are all old, too young, too fat, married. You find something faster when you know what you are looking for. I have my own theory of the red car. You would think there are no red cars anymore. Well I started keeping my eyes open to them and counted 40 in one street!

Might be time to reconsider whether the god you think you're serving actually cares, or even exists. Why continue to serve a god that says "It is not good for man to be alone," but then traps you in the very state he defined as "not good"? What possible explanation for that could there be? I could come up with only three possibilities: he is cruel, he is incompetent, or he is nonexistent. My faith essentially ended with this question, as none of those possible explanations seemed worth supporting. Perhaps you've seen some reason to continue to do so, but I didn't.

A lot of people say "I'm just going to work on myself" without really knowing what that means. I remember in 5th grade I had a defining moment when I stopped worrying about why I wasn't popular etc and instead observed why others WERE popular - they had qualities that made people want to get to know them. I decided to "become someone I would want to hangout with". I learned guitar (already played piano), learned popular songs on piano instead of just what I was doing in lessons. Started singing (was horrible) then songwriting - eventually got the point of playing gigs in Nashville even. I learned and studied topics that interested me (ancient history and physics topics etc). I started working out with my dad once I was old enough (insurance) to go to his work gym. I worked on my humor too, I like stand-up but I became more analytical of comedians timing and wordplay etc. It's blended into my songwriting as well. Life became so much easier by 7th and 8th grade though (very early on in the process) and just kept getting easier. I never felt like a victim or like things were just unfair. I'm 30 now and I feel like I've been coasting through life since graduating college (that was the last real time I needed to buckle down and grind - study for grades etc). The irony of it is - if you become someone you want to be around (through hard work and intentional actions) then you will rarely feel lonely even when you are alone. The PLUS side is that you attract people to you with very little effort. Hope this maybe helps some younger people struggling with the same thoughts.
