love this guy he tells you how HE likes to build HIS ideal rifle he dosent tell you how to build the best rifle he tells u how HE likes it most channels out there tells you that you HAVE to do it this way or you HAVE to have that or thats the way SEALS do it ( and no SEALS dont do anythign any specific way they do it there OWN individual ways ) any channel that tries to dictate to u you how somethign is done should be considered bullshit . you build it how you like it and what works for you and is comfortable for you thats why all operators will never do things a standard way cause at the end of the day everyone is different thanks bro keep up the good work

I believe a lot of you guys are looking at this in a different way than Chris. He built a gun with an engineering background as the basis; the smoothest-running, the most efficient and least wear on the parts while maintaining sufficient external ballistics, a chrome bolt carrier that will be easy to clean and reliable, the barrel and rail covers that will tolerate heat and extended round counts from stationary positions, you know... like actual things that make a weapon system functional and effective for a long time under combat conditions. The ambi stuff is personal preference. The optics are heavy but more than capable of doing many applications and retaining function. Most of these complaints are about how this rifle isnt modern enough and isnt light enough. This rifle will function for a long time. Im all for the modern things, but I also know that this is an absolutely functional firearm.

Terry Bender taught me how to shoot at a Catholic summer camp about 15 years ago. He is an extremely nice guy and was showing us his designs for a .50 caliber rifle. That trigger design was adapted to the AR and is the one in the video.

Wow. That looks like a very smooth shooting rifle. A lot of comments about perceived high weight of your build but I wouldn't mind the extra weight if smooth, flat recoil is the payoff.

Ideal for me is gotta have a carry handle. Fixed, solid, high quality Iron sights. 16inch barrel, fixed stock (slightly shortened) and underbarrel grenade launcher. No picantiny anywhere. I don't use attachments. I like everything to all be machined and fixed permanently. Solid steel no batteries, no electronics. I'll carry binoculars for optics. That lower you got there got me really thinking. Great build! You are certainly a wealth of very experienced information.

As an aside, the first time I saw a 16" semi-auto Colt carbine, it looked quite odd having all that barrel sticking out from the front sight and "what is the front sight (and gas port) doing all the way back there? Of course, the answer is Colt, after making all the Commandos and the XM177 adventure, decided to make a civilian version and why bother doing anything else except making the barrel 16" after all, 'we're Colt, they'll buy anything we make." Proper dwell is so essential whether it be gas operated, short or long recoil, or otherwise. Hope I didn't bend your ear too much. All the best!

I use Hiperfire triggers almost exclusively (except for my long range precision rifles, then I use the Larue MBT 2 Stage) I have several Hiperfire models, the Eclipse is my favorite the Elite is also nice, the EDT2 is an exceptional value as well

I like a fluted heavy barrel, but to compensate for that weight I use the lightest handguard possible. I use fixed stocks so I don't have to mess with anything. And my optics setup is a 1-6x with illuminated reticle.

What’s funny is this is very close to what I’m wanting build. Vltor front post, ascend armory billet receivers for the ambi controls, magpul ubr with vltor a5, and likely a POF or Rosco barrel with a holosun 515 (titanium model), and Aimpoint 3x

Nice setup sir. Im glad to hear your take on the weight issue. My current 5.56 rifle is my 805 Bren smooth and with the extra weight the recoil is nothing.

What’s perceived as heavy to one person may not be heavy to another. Chris probably has not problem with the weight, and in the beginning of the video he even said that his preferences are different than someone who cares all about being lightweight. In Rorke Denver’s book “Damn Few” his C/O on SEAL Team 4 carried a SOCOM-16 throughout his time in the service, which is over 10lbs fully loaded with an optic. There are plenty of guys who have no problem carrying the weight and do it just as good as someone with something lighter, just because you don’t agree doesn’t mean “his rifle won’t be effective in the real world”

It's nice to see someone else using Hiperfire triggers. There was a heck of a sale a while ago for these, so I have 4 of the EDT2 triggers and a 24. All of them eat every type of ammo you can through at them no matter how hard the primer is.

I just love my S+W ar-15 Gen 1. Bought all the toys for it. Never had a problem with it. My back up is of course. A colt 45. SOG super bowie. Need i say more.

I have that same buttstock i put on a 300 blackout of mine. You're the only other guy I've seen with that buttstock. When I first got it in the mail I thought it was a little "too big", but it's actually deceptively light. I'm keeping it.

Excellent video. I agree with the logic on parts selection. I prefer a different stock and optic, but they are essentially the same. I like the Cryptic Coating BCG. Reliable and easy to clean. Great setup Chris! My go to is an LWRC Di in patriot brown, eotech xps2 & eotech 3x mag with a Geisselle 2 stage. Illumination source is a Surefire scout 300 with a cloud defensive switch mount & tango down stubby. I know you like LWRC, in fact you turned me on to them and I acquired one !

I'm fond of dirt simple, stone reliable. Thankfully, budget agrees with that. I don't think a "combat" rifle should be spec'd according to fad or fashion. Just what works and well. Of course these days my enemies are two feet long and furry, so you have to know the mission to tailor the tool. That said, I run scopes now and never did in the "old Corps." New mission. Older eyes. New tools. I like your gun, dude. To each their own.

This is why I love Daniel Defense barrels. In my experience you get the same kind of accuracy as traditional barrels, but it still has the greater durability because it is a cold hammer forger barrel. Downside though is that Daniel defense barrels are definitely more money to cough up.

Chris, in my humble opinion I could not agree more on your view of lightweight vs durability. Having a reliable rifle that goes bang when you depress the trigger, survives explosions, drops, and can be used in hand to hand combat because it's built with some "meat" on its bones is ideal.

Sweet build. I been thinking about putting red dot sights on mine. And love how the grip has a compartment to put my survival kit inside.

I completely agree with him about durability. I own an CZ Bren. It's got some weight to it. However, I know that gun was run by the Checz Military. You see all these youtube vids with guys shooting fast. Shit doesn't happen that way. You take cover. Go light and you shit breaks.

I'm surprised to say I have nearly the same build. I just stuck with a car gas system and got a Midwest Gen-2 TS 7.25 free-floating quad rail.

That's a beauty!😲💪 The basic M4-type carbine is been pretty scienced-out by now and it's fairly simple to assemble a solid gun. That said it's hard to argue with your choices. Probably nowadays you won't find many Comp M2s anymore (the Comp M4 replaced it) and I'm running the newer Comp M5. But what a solid fighting gun yours would be!🙏🏆😎

I really like your choices. I too have Alot of VLTOR parts as well. The E-Mod and I-Mod stocks. I'm going to look into that Lower because that is pretty Kool.

My 3 Colt m4a1socoms with DD omega rails,usgi 14.5 socom barrels with the flats,vltor stocks,magpul grips and trigger guards,matech,DD fixed rears,Trijicon ta31rco,Aimpoint t2 and Eotech 553 have to satisfy me.I could buy all of the new fangle parts but my Colts have proven to be as reliable as my 3 Arsenal Aks Sgl21 Slr107r and Slr106cr chopped.

I use 3 Vltor stocks on my Colts and 1 LMT, on my own custom build. Great stocks, very nice build you have. Have you ever considered offering a Armorers course ?

Maybe I missed it but you never really explained why you went with a quad rail vs a lower profile m-lock type handguard.. I’m curious as to this choice as there are many very durable options out there now that are every bit as strong as a traditional quad rail. I’m going to guess that you do it to remove extra parts like you say about forged finger guards on lowers? Love that adec mag release system.. I’ve never seen that before. I will definitely be going that route on my next build over the magpul bad levers I traditionally use.

Here I was about to disagree with you on a ton, but like a fair amount of your stuff. I know lots of industry AR componentry but somehow didn’t realize how trick that radian lower is. My use philosophy would include more offhand and mobile shooting, so I’d build a lighter rifle, and build a lighter 308 platform for more stationary shooting

The wait for buying this rifle would totally be worth it.

I have found one very good reason to have a forward assist. It may not apply to everyone, but it definitely applies to me. When I dry fire (which is quite often) I have to unload my weapon. When I am finished I have to load it back up. Every time I chamber a round by letting the charging handle drop, the round that is chambered gets that little slight primer strike. I have tested those rounds after being loaded like that up to 10 times, and I believe they will be fine after many more, but... Every professional I talk to tells me to NOT trust those rounds with my life. "Your life isn't worth risking over the $0.75 you save. After you eject an unfired round, throw it in the practice pile.". I understand what, and why, they are saying, but... I can't afford to do that. Literally cannot afford to throw that many rounds away. I might dry fire 6 times a day. With a forward assist I can ease the charging handle forward and then use the forward assist to seat the round and make ready. Otherwise, I can only think of a single reason you would ever NEED one, and that's if you're being overran and you absolutely MUST get that last round into the chamber, consequences be damned. But a lot of things have to have gone wrong for that to be a final scenario.

If the x95 was as accurate as the m4, I think it’d be the ideal battle rifle. A full 16” barrel (in US at least) in an SBR package, reliable, n perfect for cqb.

ARMS stopped making that pin on flip up sight, as did others like GG&G. Very sad. Maybe you could encourage ARMS to consider manufacturing it again.

I wonder how necessary a heavy barrel would be for most of us using semiauto only would be. Honest question. Currently looking at one of BCM’s enhanced lightweight barrels. Ounces add up to pounds and I’m always looking for where I can afford to shave a few off.

It seems like ounces =pounds pounds =pain applies to everything except firearms in the military. Up until very recently that is. A 6 lb 556 is easier to shoot in every way but prone off a rest than a 9 lb rifle with a bunch of shit you you don’t need. I don’t understand the philosophy behind this rifle. It’s to heavy to really be mobile but doesn’t have the magnification to reach out past a couple hundred yards either. What’s the point of a bomb proof rifle if it doesn’t excel at anything particular. I would be very interested in that lower with the option of an spr type upper with that rail or an mlock style streamlined upper that is more focused on weight than than attempting to do everything in one package

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and logic behind why you chose each piece to build. With respect to grips... you mentioned that one was most comfortable. What are your thoughts on the houge rubberized grips. Or the oversized rubberized grip with baseplate. Those seem to be more ergonomic and are more comfortable for me personally. The finger grooves make me feel like I have a stronger and more consistent grip than the squared grips.

This seems like the perfect rifle for 2004. Truth be told most of the parts here are pretty archaic by modern standards durable and bomb proof but way too heavy. Most lightweight built rifles are really strong since they use Titanium in thinks like the bolt carrier and trigger components which drastically reduce weight while not sacrificing durability.

Love the state flag rail cover. Just got myself one for good old New Hampshire.

I have a question about the A.R.M.S folding front sight. You said you have yours pinned. On their site it looks like they only sale clamp on style front sights? How did you pin it?

Faxon says there nitride barrels are more accurate and last as long ...just putting that out there ..SOLGW also claim that to...just sayn ...I am a fan of hammer forged but I just watched the video were they claim this and I was kinda surprised

Would the barrell length be the same if you went to .308 or 6.8 spc?
