I have two of them, and must respectfully disagree. They are not perfect, but for the money, are built like tanks, and have happily fired many thousands of rounds without a problem. Your sight screw is probably one thread too long.

if you would have watched JM and his daughter's video on cleaning and disassembling it prior to purchasing you would not have had the magazine issue... just saying. it's fairly simple to take it apart and it's unfortunate you can't carefully take apart a firearm and put it back together the way you took it apart man. unfortunate you gave a 4/10 on such a good gun.

Horrible review. He calls cast on/off cant, doesn’t know what the coating is, blames “reliability” on his lack of mechanical expertise, and has only shot trap with it. Merely going off the size of his forearms I’m willing to be this boy doesn’t do much competition shooting, or any running and gunning.

I purchased this - 940 Tactical - just about a week ago and right now it's on its way back to Mossberg. Finicky is exactly the right word. I shot a variety of about 50 shells, including Federal, and the malfunction rate was about 1 in 5. I brought it back to the dealer, he took it back to the range, I loaded up 6 rounds and handed it over to him. He snapped off 5 just like that and handed it back to me - perfect he says. Um - lookee here, the 6th cartridge jammed on its way out of the magazine, didn't even make it onto the elevator. So, it's now on its way back to Mossberg. Hopefully it's a simple mechanical adjustment. I will say it has NEVER failed to eject the spent shell so the recoil ejection mechanism seems solid. Something wrong with elevating and chambering the new shell. that's where it was always going wrong. That's the simplest part of it, but who knows. So yeah, finicky. But I hope to get it back in much more reliable shape.

I have had the 940 pro for about a year now. I’ve ran about 2,000 rounds out of it and still have not cleaned it. I am waiting to see a failure before I clean it. Kind of an experiment that I’m running. There are two issues I have had with it: It does not like AA Winchester target loads and I think that is just because the shell is thicker than most. The other thing is that I would rather have a longer barrel. I talked to Mossberg about getting the “field” barrel for it, but they do not have any in stock. Other than that… I love the thing.

I kept getting a double feed. I don't know if this is user error and Im suppose to put one in the chamber first then load the bottom. That's the feeling a was getting the second time. I could not get the shells out, the extractor was stuck to the rear so I made big mistake and opened the mag extension. As you described things flew everywhere downrange called cease fire, I thought I retrieved everything but realized the follower was missing after I tried to fire it and the spring came back and got a tangled in the bottom. just a big mess. I later found this is the wrong way to strip it but I was at the range and wanted those shells out. So Im about to order missing parts and get it atleast to where it was to send back.

@@DGiyenko Thanks for the comment and concern. This is my latest communication from Mossberg: "our lead engineer for the 940 line reviewed the firearm. The issue was with the feed ramp - there was a bit of a lip on it causing the issue. We were able to file the lip down and various rounds of ammo were put through it (one day he did 75 rounds, yesterday he did a few more for final testing. I'd like to note this because our standard QC for cycling is a magazine full. This was taken very seriously). He said the firearm is running really well. It will be shipped back tomorrow!" @@andy_in_nh9243 That's concerning. Thanks for the info. I was considering getting myself a 940 JM Pro because it has such stellar reviews on YT, but since I'm in Kazakhstan I won't be able to just send it to Mossberg to sort out a possible malfunction. Man! Just picked mine up, last wk! I really thought I'd done my homework, but I'm only just now seein all tha negative stuff, after researchin tube capacity issues. Mine'd only hold 6 intha tube, so I removed tha tube (Followin Jerry's vid, evry step'a tha way!), inspected, and replaced, but could only get 4 in, afterward! Further research clued me in to the potential length differences betwixt roll-crimped, and star/fold-crimped shotshells. Azit turned out, I was using 2 3/4" Rio buckshot, and they were approx 1/4" longer'n my star-crimped specimens. Took extension apart again, and re-assembled, payin VERY close attention, to how I fed tha spring into tha tube. After that, and usin TRUE 2 3/4" shells, I was able to get all 7 in, but that last shell seemed 2b right at tha limit. It appears my initial "crisis" has been averted, but now, I'm afraid to shootit, after seein all the other issues ppl've had, and hearin some horror stories about Mossberg customer service. Based upon "feel" alone, it seems like an upgraded mag spring wun't be tha worst thing u could do to 1...
