I did a resurrection jar a few years after watching father fish. It is so cool to see what happens..its hard to believe that life will come forth...but it does.

I have been keeping what you people are calling Resurrection jars as a hobby for over 55 years & I found it amazing the diversity that ditch bank muds have within them. It also changes weather its day or night. One of the wildest ones for me was a small section of roof top moss that was always kept wet from an air conditioning drain. I submersed it about 5 inches deep, by day it was an interesting thriving plant/animal but by night with a flashlight, it was a writhing mass of thin white worms looking for food. Scary. I could not tell if the worms were actually part of the moss or separate.

Yes, so many of the youtube creators have inspired me over the years. I keep learning and trying new things with my aquariums and ponds. I is wonderful to be able to learn from so many plant and fish people.

I am a diy type person..love building my own stands..aquariums...i am always watching folks like minded....

I do not follow Father Fish's methods to the letter, but his methods and philosophy about keeping fish was what got me the courage to finally dive into this hobby. I have never had much i can set off for stuff not related to my own personal survival, so cost was a big hurdle for me to get over. He showed me enough in a video for me to finally figure out that "Hey, i might actually be able to afford this!". So i started saving up for a proper glass tank and figured out that i can make it even cheaper, if i just put in some time and effort. I was given a acrylic tank (first and last, glass rules.) with two neglected Corydoras on the verge of death, and nursed them back to health and had fry within 3 months. Got 50 - 70 Albino Corydoras raised, which i still have 21 of in my tanks. Another factor keeping me out of the hobby was the well being of these magnificent creatures. In my eyes, most of the "pristine tank" methods are lessening their quality of life enough to a point where i was not comfortable with the thought of keeping fish. I have grown up taking care of animals of all shapes and sizes and have worked in several different jobs related to animal care with most of my mentors having a big focus on sustainability, ecological impact, natural methods and most importantly trying to provide any and everything a animal might need or appreciate (in their own ways.). Whenever i had searched for aquarium stuff in the past, all the results were overly expensive methods that clashed directly with my own thoughts, mindset, methods and philosophy when it comes to animal care. Father Fish got recommended to me on frontpage after searching for terrarium stuff, and i got to see that there were actually a substantial amount of people who not only had kept fish in a way that i find appealing, they often had way better results in terms of animal health! Now, a little over a year after my first fish i have learned so much and accomplished more then i thought possible. Im also "that guy" who will try to tell people how smart fish actually can be, but i have a sneaking suspicion they think i am batpoop insane LOL. I have trained Bettas who were smarter then many dogs, i have certain fish that likes to rub against me and get pets and other stuff most people would call me a liar for mentioning. Running little science experiments and disproving myths i suspect are wrong for my own amusement has been the most fun so far though.

Very nicely done... That muck always smells good... Glad this isn't smellovision. It's amazing what all lives in that crud . It's a good way to get a colony of scuds etc .. I have seen a lot of his vids My tanks are pretty heavily stocked as I breed them and have half them planted and filtered.. Dragon fly nyphs are very aggressive .. great for fishing with lol

Recently found father fish, and when he speaks everything he says just sounds right, I watch many fish youtubers but no1 has inspired me in any way to change things up, expect for him a true master in the hobby, he proves its not about money and fancy equipment , i will soon be implementing many of his teachings

I just started my first father fish 15 gallon about a month ago it’s thriving I have about 24 fish very heavily planted probably 90% planted water lettuce really helps because it grows fast but I have all kinds of slow medium and fast growing plants. I fed the fish, initially I had four fish, small fish, two sword tails, and two panda Cory’s-after the first three days I fed them as much as flakes that would match their eyes very very little. After that I have not fed any of the fish in 3 1/2 weeks and they are all thriving. I put in some palm tree wood lastly and I could see little fuzz grow on the wood and see the fish eating the fuzz the first three days, I did dead leaves soaked in water like a resurrection jar and I did another one similar and added a little of the culture and the whole tank is thriving. All the fish are happy and swimming.

First I need to say , you have the voice that would make u a great counselor or psychiatrist! , second love the idea of the all natural tanks and it’s great you try these things to become a well rounded fish keeper!, for me I like big tanks, if I could get my dream 500 plus gallon tank it would already be here, but I do not think this method can handle large tanks, with large fish, let me know if this method has the ability to sustain a tank of this caliber anywhere from 75 g and up. I have a colony of bloody-Mary shrimp. I spotted a planaria worm on the glass a few months ago. I got it out, but there were obviously more. I started seeing more on the glass but I didn't treat it. Last week I noticed a few red worms on the glass. *They are eating them!* My colony looks a little smaller. I am dosing No-Planeria now. You don't want these in your shrimp tank!

I have gotten into Father Fish theBut last few months too! I have a pond at work (Tampa, FL) that I started my second jar with. So much daphnia already! I have cut waaay back on water changes (doing small topoffs) and added a bunch of plants. I have seen a drastic decrease in fish death from disease. It's exactly the opposite of what every other fish KZfaqr said to do when I first started watching and getting into the hobby.

I’m getting ready to do my 1st “Father Fish” setup in a 29g tank. Plus I’ve got to eat up a resurrection jar.

Last time I heard in a video of father fish that without mud and just old leaves it would work better cause the mud can start to mold and can kill life inside the jar. Maybe it's an idea of another project for you to show the difference between both options (sorry about my bad English, I hope jyoz understand what I mean)

Many of the crawlies will metamorphose into flying forms eventually. If you give them enough time, you might want a lid.

Did you run into any water issues after dumping the resurrection jar into your aquarium? I'd imagine the water parameters from the jar vs aquarium are quite different, no? If so, I thought perhaps the drip method, adding tank water into the resurrection jar over the 30-day period, would be a good idea.

I got the purpose was to isolate and remove creatures to culture seperately and then add that to your tank. I would think dumping water from your resurrection jar directly from your tank would be asking for trouble.

Great video brother! I am actually trying a resurrection jar right now! And thats because I resurrected my self if you will by finding Father Fish's channel, after a few years out of the hobby! In the early days of the hobby I got inspired by NewYorkSteelo's channel, and I literally learned all I know about salt water fish keeping. Love your channel man, keep it up!

Can you add the whole jar after a month? I have some dirt and sand in the bottom just apprehensive to add the whole jar.

Thank you for doing the experiment making this video, I've collected some dirt but they smelled bad so I didn't use them, saw some interesting life in there too! Found another pond that didn't smell bad, will be collecting from there soon, thank you for the heads up on what not to put into our tanks, is there a list of what should I be watching out for besides the one you've mentioned?

There’s planeria in my cherry shrimp tanks and they are reproducing fine, no dead shrimp either, I believe when you have lots of other bugs the planeria doesn’t go after shrimp

I tested my thermometer yesterday. Turns out it was way off. Bought two new thermometers that both showed my aquarium water was 91° my original thermometer read 71° . I've had my fish in 91° degree water! I'm sick. I don't know how any survived. I lost several over the last few months, not all at once, and they were disappearing in the tank. Eaten by the other fish. I had tested my thermometer before but I didn't do it correctly. I came across a YT video that had directions on the correct way to test your thermometer. I was truly aghast that my thermometer was so far off. Please whoever reads this, learn the correct way to test your thermometer and then test it.

Your jars are so full of life! I went to my nearby lake and took some some leaves from the bottom of the lake, but I havent seen any life and it smells fowl after a two weeks. Should I dump it out and start over?
