Some korean ladies sold these in front my hs in the philippines. They always made it fresh in their cart and i always bought a couple after school. They are so soooooo good and for a hungry teen this was heaven. I hope those ladies are doing ok, this was back in 2013-2015. They also sold filipino street snacks like quail egg kwek kwek skewers, but their hotteok was the best.

Whoaaaaa, I’ve never thought to use biscuit dough! The one thing I hate about making hotteok at home is how sticky the dough is, but I crave it whenever it’s cold out, so I’m definitely going to try this! Also, if anyone out there wants to try them but don’t want to make them at home, the Hmart frozen ones are really good!

“The trader Joe ones aren’t authentic so buy the h mart ones” “I’m gonna make them with store bought biscuit dough” Why bring authenticity up as a dig if you’re going to ignore it for yourself?
@Chemeleon152 ай бұрын
I think she meant to say they’re nothing like the real thing favor- and texture-wise. Also: premade doughs can be authentic if that’s how they were originally created. Lots of Asian countries have recipes authentic to them, but use foreign/American ingredients like SPAM. You can thank wars for that 😅 I don’t think Korean had a lot of leavened(yeast) breads prior to major wars anyway, so even something as culturally “authentic” as Hotteok is fairly new to the country.
@sophiadebar3822 ай бұрын
@@Chemeleon15 But canned biscuits aren’t authentic to Hotteok. It’s a very westernized recipe, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I just think using “authenticity” as an excuse to dissuade people from buying things that aren’t normally available in someone’s culture, and then forgetting about authenticity when showing your recipe that you want them to make instead, is hypocritical. Either you care about authenticity or you don’t. Don’t shame others for buying ‘non authentic’ foods, especially if that’s all they can buy in their area. And not everyone wants to waste time making something that has the same level of authenticity as the food from the store
@gamechimp8692 ай бұрын
its the filling that makes it authentic smooth brain
@sophiadebar3822 ай бұрын
@@gamechimp869 it’s literally not lmao. It’s mainly the dough. The way the dough is made with flour and how it encases the filling, and the filling itself, is what makes it authentic. If the filling by itself was what made it authentic, then Trader Joe’s would be considered authentic
