That was cool, JP. I enjoyed it. I'm still waiting on the R5 Mark II Announcement, a camera that will hopefully have the same resolution and fast stacked type sensor as that Z8. If it doesn't I might just buy a Z8 or maybe nothing for a while. Heather and I will be in Anaheim for just the briefest time in July. Really no time in our itinerary for birding. If there was a spot really close and I mean REALLY close to Disneyland, we might be able to swing by there for an hour before we drive back to Vegas where Heather is attending a conference after our two days of Disney. I've been looking but haven't seen anything that looks promising. Anyway, I enjoyed seeing your west coast birds.

Thank you, thank you Phil! I completely understand. If I knew of anyplace out that way, I would suggest it but I am not at all familiar with the spots out there near Disneyland. I am also really looking forward to the R5 II - cant wait to see the specs - but man, Nikon has done an AMAZING job with their focus firmware update. I was super super impressive. Later this year, or even in August when I go to Arizona to photograph hummingbirds, I may have to rent it again and the 180-600 if it is available. It was impressive. If you two ever do make it back out this way, would love to shoot with you two. And someone here who knows a lot of places - if I run into him out at Sepulveda, I will ask him about places near Disneyland to shoot for you!!! 🙏🤗💖

Love the video and photos of the Geese super cute! I'm heavily invested in Sony and Canon for wildlife at this point but I started my photography journey with a Nikon DSLR but they were so late to the mirrorless game I went with Sony and Canon. Thanks for sharing with us.

Thank you, thank you! I was a Nikon guy and shot Sony as well. Love the Sony focus even back then but the depth of color in the raw files to my eyes was just flat. The A6700 was the first Sony I really liked and it was a rental. I went to Canon when the R5 came out and even tried a Z9 (biggest purchase regret of my career). This new firmware update is really impressive but even if I were starting over, I would go Canon. When I am asked, I suggest Canon because of the wide range of products, prices and weight that new photographers are looking for - the don't want to drop 4K on a body and 3k on glass - they just want to go out and have fun. I stopped doing gig - just not fun. The last one I did was for a friend a the last minute when their photographer dropped out I had (2) R5s - one with a 24-70 F2.8 and the other with my favorite 70-200 F2.8. 90% of what I shot was with the 70-200. Nikon has simply caught up but I still find the Canon AF more consistent shooting side by side. 🙏🤗💖

Great video and images. I am glad Nikon has produced a couple of great cameras in the Z8 and Z9 recently. I am in the same boat as you in regards to changing systems. Like everyone else with Canon gear I am waiting to see what the R5 ii brings us.

Thank you Jeff. I like a lot of things about the R5 over the R3 and vise versa LOL - there is no perfect set up and we will keep chasing it. I am looking forward to the R5 MK II - if it has a stacked sensor, I may get it. If not, Ill stick with the R3. I have started to really like the smaller files as well. HOWEVER - if IF I shoot another event, it will be with and R5 hands down. Nikon has come a long way but I think Canon will still kick it up a notch, the Sony. Hummingbirds in Arizona in August and September, then Eagles in Washington December & January pending weather!! Hopefully with another new camera. 🙏🤗💖 PS - it was impressive, but I will still stick with Canon! You can always rent a set up for a couple of days and try a Nikon set up out.

I really like they way you have your camera settings and the name of the wildlife listed at the bottom left. It is so easy to look at while also looking at the pictures you had taken. I enjoy looking at other camera equipment but I am sticking with my R7 and the RF 18-150, 1.6 teleconverter, RF 100-400, and my Sigma 150-600 contemporary. I need to figure what is more important- food or camera gear. 😂😂😂😂 Thank you for all the videos you have put together.

Thank you, thank you!!! Food or camera gear - tough choice! 😅 I dont list all the specs on each one in all the videos but I do most of the time. I like seeing peoples settings and I think it helps others a bit too. I like long lenses and I like to my R7 too!! 🙏🤗💖

Thank you, thank you. I really was impressed with the AF update - it is AMAZING. I am going to rent the Z8 again and a couple of other lenses to go with it. I had to wait a month just to get this and it was worth it Thinking about reserving a set up now for a hummingbird trip to Arizona in August and September. Enjoy your Nikon stuff!! 🙏🤗💖

Amen - that would be awesome. The other I would have loved to play with was the 180-600 but it was not available. Oh, and the 600 with the built in tele. I am planning a trip to Arizona in August, then again in September to shoot hummingbirds - I may have to rent a set up to take with me as well - it really was impressive. 🙏🤗💖 PS - I had to wait just over a month just to get what I had LOL. Great video as always. Can you do a side by side test with Sony 200-600 and 600PF? I have been tempted to get Z8+600PF+x1.4 (because its lightweight) in addition to my a1+200-600 but I'm not sure if there is an improvement in quality.

I can do that for sure but it will be a while - I have to rent all of it. The lens I would have loved to try with the Z8 is the 180-600 and the 600 with a built in 1.4. I had to wait a month for what I had to come in stock and that was really all that was available - super impressive. I really did enjoy the Sony 200-600 when I had it on the A6700 - that was really impressive as well. 🙏🤗💖

Jonny Pink... I can hook up with you the week of May 12th at Balboa. Can bring Z9, 180-600, 800PF and 2x TC with tripod and gimbal. You are welcome to have at it. Would bring a Z 105 MC for good measure in the event macro shots needed. Let me know what works for you. Jim
