44 here also. Painting since I’m 19. Same here. Same with final sand with bare hands. No long blocks. No long files. Homemade booth. And I have many awards for my work. I do restorations. On a rotisserie. But I’m still not in a fancy place like on TV. Just a normal dirty shop. With a clean room for assembly. These TV cats aren’t real. It’s just TV.

I used to wrap sandpaper around a modified ppg wooden paddle. I was taught that by a Tennessee/Florida painter who moved NW. Works excellent for anything from a dirt mib to a sag. Some pre-stick prep is sometimes needed but I imagine Bondo BILLY either has a video or will make one covering it!

I got an estimate for a car surface restoration: $8,000. My clear coat is pealing. They say I need a repaint. My car is a low mile 24 year old car. I know a lot of work is involved in sanding and painting,etc. But the car has no body work needed except fora rear bumper dent. I was a school teacher. It is hard to fathom the cost of painting a car. I respect fair payment for work rendered. I guessI will live with my paint finish. Thanks for sharing. Good luck with your retirement. God bless you.

Billy, Back a hundred years ago I talked myself into the tool truck business. I remember getting told by a customer to " go see my uncle, he's semi retired but stays busy painting cars for a couple of used car dealers". I went to the address given to me, this man had a pole shed, with a dirt floor, he was spraying down the floor. Came out talked to me bought a set of Torx screwdrivers and😊 16:52 socket bits, they were the new thing at the time.. Set up a schedule for me to come by. Anyways I went back the next week car was done and paint was CLEAN and Slick. This man was about your age then and had been painting since before WWII.

@cammy9r14 күн бұрын
That job will buff up like glass. If I'm going for that finish I always hose on another coat, I call it the flattening coat. Rarely glass any job out now as I need to try and match factory clear finishes and some cars are just bad from the factory. Clear top down or bottom up for me its more about how the wet edge is going to sit. I do a lot of bumper blends and most of them are done diagonally to keep the clear where I need it for fade out. And yes white is a pain in the arse to see properly but then some silvers are too for me.

Nobody’s perfect. I came back to edit for your pomposity: I’m an efficient person; I don’t waste time or risk money. Your old eyes are probably better than mine. I didn’t know the first coat of sealer was too dry til I tack ragged it. By then it was too late. Colorsand and buff was always in the plan, and minor orange peel after was always the target. So, mister smartass, which is more intelligent; sanding a whole job again, and cleaning it back up for paint, or a little extra Colorsanding? Rhetorical question, but thanks for your dumbassery🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Every sealer ive used i wana say ( dont hold me to this ) was always 4:1:1 4 parts sealer 1 part activator And 1 part reducer Urethane of course Transtar With MATRIX BASE AND 2:1 CLEAR THE BASE IS HORRIBLE NEVER MATCHES THERE AG 40 CLEAR IST TOO BAD

Epoxy is the best , if you want shit to last .especially ( when i ever use it ) on all bare metal jobs.

You can spray any paint with any gun, but old-school guns waste a lot of it😉😉

Bondo Billy you say you can't see ! U know they an correct your old age vision problem with laser surgery dam near give you 20/20 vision ! I was illegally blind (far sighted) 20/490 in left and 20/475 in the right ! 27 year had surgery that returned eye sight to 20/30 so i didn't in to wear glasses for 16 years ! Of course having a CLD at the age 38 i had to get glasses for driving because age started creepy up again 20/40 is the cut of on your sight test on CDL's ! Now at the age of 52 im still at 20/50 way better than i was at the age of 17 ! Maybe something to look into ! No pun intended ! Still better than most painters that can see !

I have the eye disease Retinitis Pigmentosa, and there is no treatment. It’s like looking through smoke that just keeps getting thicker. I have an old scratched up pair, and a brand new pair of glasses. My vision is the same through either 😗😗
