I have a problem. It's called eBay and a weakness for low bid knives.
Still I get a certain amount of joy out doing this.

I do a bit of that wee-hour knife shopping, too. Lol. I do like a bargain, and sometimes I get one.

I enjoy the same kind of late night fun on eBay. I also get an incredible amount of joy from certain knives that others might dismiss. I call them my "guilty pleasure" knives.

I know I can't be the only person buying the odd and unusual knives. There are plenty of them out there for sale! Glad to find a kindred spirit to share the fun.

I understand being a bit obsessed with a certain type of knife or brand or color etc. Those picnic knives are fun to find. You're right about not having many USA makers take part which makes good ones hard to find. Nevertheless even good looking budget ones can fill the bill. Thanks Tobias.

Hi Tobias: That IS a cool knife. Ebay is a fun country to shop in if one exercises some discipline. I too am an old fashioned sniper. Sometimes the enjoyment is out of all proportion to the money spent. Well done. 👍😊👌

Nice find. I have only done a bit of eBay shopping and not with very much success. I did eventually turn settings to time ending soonest but never thought of the shipping location setting. Like I said, I haven’t been very successful in winning bids. Good idea though to prevent from getting slapped with big shipping cost. I could see from my very limited experience that it could become fun, especially if I started to get good at it.

I have an idea that knives made in Pakistan from ones I have bought are more for design examples. None I bought have a single makers mark on any I bought. I did not buy any costing more than $20 dollars and all of them seem to use the same steel. D2 is the same as High carbon, stainless or whatever claimed to be. The pictures might show a blade marking but none of the knives bought had any. However, I was able to sharpen them enough to slice paper. I also used them to chop thru wood. After using them they still were sharp but had trouble slicing paper smoothly. The steel on all of them is between 45 to 50 HRC when I tested them using an HRC file set. One was between 50 and 55 HRC. I know that steel of this hardness is use making throwing knives. Not recommended for sharpening however, I have sharpened them. The carbon content of the steel is low making the steel less prone to rust and will bend before breaking. Lawnmower blades are hardened from 38 to 48 HRC from information I found. You can use a heavier grit stone like 320-grit and a 30-degree grind and make them sharp enough to cut most anything. The same as a lawnmower blade; I think buying Pakistan knives is not to expect perfection for $10 dollars. 👍

The maker probably made less than 25 cents but it is hand made and unique. 👌

Great video. I’m currently trying to cut my eBay addiction to buying knives. I’ve only been buying on there for a little over a year, but I’ve bought between 300-400 knives in that time. Partly because I got into the collecting game late, Covid pandemic was my first time collecting pocketknives, and I felt a need to build my collection rapidly. Also, I was lucky enough to keep my job during that time, and just saved that $4,000 that they sent couples during that time. So I just used that money to build my collection. But now, it’s just me buying knives for the sake of buying knives, and I def gotta a little problem in those regards. I’ve decided to start learning how to fix slipjoints (blade replacement, handle material replacement, back spring replacement etc) and that has definitely made me cull my buying a bit, but I still find myself going after discontinued rough Ryders, or cool vintage knives under $20 that just need a good cleaning and tlc. I’m more or a utilitarian knife collector, so I don’t own many safe queens, but I do have some. I have a guilty pleasure of buying the old clam shell knives from Rhode Island (imperial, colonial, hammer, etc) they always have great walk n talk, and the carbon blades are like razors. I want to re-handle some of those with bone, I think that would be cool. The Pakistan knives are so inconsistent with quality. I own a bullet brand stockman that’s awesome, the blades take a great edge, and the action is awesome. So I bought a couple other bullet brand knives that looked like mine, and boy are they just made shoddy. So it’s like trial and error with those, you just gotta take chance I get. Thanks for sharing! Funny how your eBay habits are so similar to mine, really makes me feel better about my addiction. It’s like we’re all in this together ❤

Thanks for a look at your eBay experience. Sound like you’re having a ball with your collection. It think that’s the most important aspect of collecting. And yes, I know for some, the joys is to own the high end safe-queens. That’s okay as well but it also isn’t for everyone. I also know some people will never buy from eBay auctions. But for me, it’s fun. I’ve been burned a couple times but, overall it’s been a fun experience. (And I’ve picked up so really cool knives as well as other stuff!)

Thankfully, no alcohol was involved. There’s an old song by Steve Goodman called Vegematic that describes the dangers of late night purchases.

@@KnifeChatswithTobias I still haven't learned my lesson. After a few drinks, I purchased my 1st Albers Cutlery Co Lambfoot knife with Curly Purpleheart wood covers. Thankfully, it wasn't on eBay!

We could be brothers from different mothers, I do the same thing except for Bowie knives. I know what I am getting is a Bowie that will most likely look good but I would not want to use for hard tasks. I think the knives I get come from the same town just a different eBay user account. Thanks for sharing and God bless.

Oh I have my share of Bowies of questionable quality. Not only from Pakistan but way too many Frost Bowies to be considered normal for a grown man! I'll need to check out your Bowies if you have put them up.
