Well Ryan watching this vid made me feel a little better about my lawn. We've had a dry summer and it's reduced my usual lush, green lawn to a patchy mess. It's like a punch in the gut, after investing so much time and effort. I take satisfaction in seeing a nice green lawn after working on it, it's cathartic. I take it personally when my lawn doesn't respond. Have a great day Ryan.

I started a lawn from Scott’s heat tolerant mix in a dry climate in Colorado three years ago. It has established well, but first year had issue with weeds and each year after brown spots. I did used Scott’s fungicide last year when I noticed this and it helped. this year on the other side of the yard no fungicide and has spread severely but I think it’s done. I think wildlife spreads the fungus. I have tried to limit dethatching about once a week but it’s by hand; looking into a good electric one before summer really kicks in to clean it up the best I can. I also used Pennington fertilizer pellets the past two year early spring along with switching off between ironite and lime and calcium. The soil is sandy and gets hard packed when dry. Recently I put revive down on it. Stumbled on this video down the lawn care rabbit hole now I will continue on my landscaping quest.

I did a pure kbg Reno last fall and I definitely applied too much seed since I was used to the tall fescue rate. It established pretty quick for blue but now I’m paying for it with what I think is fungus. Too thick to dry out and I only water deep twice a week. Hoping that dethatch and aerate this weekend without overseeding it will help thin it out. Doing Pangea rye on the parkway/curbside grass though since dog piss has mangled it lol. Excited to dip into the rye game.

Regarding your shady area, I’ve mentioned it before, but you should really look into getting some Poa Supina for some shade testing. I’m in Europe and used Wolf brand sun and shade mix the last few years after trying other brands. It only had 3% Supina in it and my HEAVILY shaded yard is doing gang busters. It is thick and dense and where the Supina is taking over, traffic isn’t a problem. Another brand I used had lots of fine fescue in it and for a while that renovated area of lawn was doing well but now it’s thinning. Worst areas in my lawn are the areas that get near full day sun, which is a minimal section. Just ordered a sun/shade mix that has 10% Poa Supina in it to over seed the lawn after a dethatching and some repairs to areas that had some structures removed. I really enjoy the expanded content you can provide at your current property. Great seeing the cool season grasses in various states of care or non-care and seeing the results. As a former mid-westerner from across the Mississippi, I do not miss those hot and humid summers you are enduring. Thanks for all the education you provide Ryan

Hey Ryan have you looked into Blue Grama? I know you've been trying Buffalo grass, but I believe Blue Grama is actually a more natural fit for your area. Been researching more native grasses, I hope to see more on your channel! Btw, apparently buffalo grass takes a very long time to fully establish so don't give up on it.

Ryan, thank you so much for sharing! I have your company's Rye Grass here in Pittsburgh, PA. While parts of my lawn look great, this season I have had unprecedented problems with weeds and especially fungus: top third of blades turned dark gray or almost black in a circle about a month or more ago, and now I have patches of brown (likely dead) grass, even after applications of Scott's Disease X. Do you happen to have any advice on what kind of fugus I had and how else I can treat it or tell if the fungus has died before I do my overseed in 1-2 weeks?

In the fall sometimes night temperatures matter almost as much as day temperatures. If you’re in the 70-80s at night there is no recovery from the damage taken over the day. Days are still 90-100 in WA but nights are 55-65. Since beginning of August, my scalp and detach scars have healed and I’m waiting another couple weeks to detach again since it’s already so thick. The one good thing about living in a desert with less than 10 inches of rain each year is that I get to control the water. The bad thing about living in the desert is I need to control the water with no irrigation 😂 I will say though drought is way easier to fix than fungus.

I know your feeling. New to PRG did a full front and back yard of your PRG looked gorgeous in spring. Northeast got hammered with water in spring and got hit with fungus. I basically turned my sprinklers off all season and been riding it manually. I did a dethatch mid summer and cleared up some of the moisture retention. But we just got hit with 2-3 days of clouds and heavy rains some cool overnight weather. Walked outside 2 days ago to see what looks to be pythium everywhere. Now I'm pondering myself to spray everything with Stergo MX or just hold off. Just don't see how I can hold off when I seed and water it's sure to rear its nasty head again.

What do you recommend me when ım using pump sprayer with fertilizer. For example if My lawn need 3 kg of nitrogen. Should I split it 1kg-1kg-1kg per backpack sprayer, or ı should mix all of it. Thanks.

I don't see how watering in the evening is bad. Mother nature makes It rain at night sometimes, but I'm not a professional. It's probably not good to overwater and have puddles sitting there constantly that would drown the grass or cause disease. If anything watering in the middle of the day seems like a waste cause it all evaporates and dries up quick. Personally I water in the morning. I also was under the assumption your supposed to mix a couple types of grass not just have say bluegrass only because it's more susceptible to pests and disease. Would like to hear your opinion on that. My yard is a mix 80% turf type tall fescue and 20% bluegrass. And one section is rye & bluegrass.
