There's nothing but cornfields, soybean fields & wind turbines as far as the eye can see where I live. No trees, no creeks, no mountains..... cornfields... just everywhere. They cut down all the trees to put in cornfields & now they're plowing under all the cornfields to put in wind turbines to power Chicago which is hours away from us.

I look forward to Sunday evenings when the "My Life in Appalachia" saga continues. I'm also sorry the rocks collected were lost to the creek. No matter how insignificant one might find the stones, I'd love to see a video partially devoted to rock and arrowhead huntin'. Finally, I'd like to say, I'd give a hundred dollars for a jar of Granny's "sour" kraut! That's the stuff I miss the most from my own Grammaw. Thank you all for another wonderful video. Sweet ! Add a little basil at the end of the cook time to your soup . Yesterday I made soup- fresh spinach, cabbage , mixed frozen vegetable , beef broth ,hamburger meat -fried , basil , salt, and pepper to taste . Then added some rice to the bowl . Warms the heart to know some one else cans vegetable soup . Enjoyed !

Tipper you do shine a light on the good life you live in Appalachia. All of your videos are educational, useful, most often musical, always interesting and wholesome (a word not able to be used much today). I enjoy each one I've seen. Same for your Blind Pig program. I have noticed however a few people give your videos Thumbs Down. I can't imagine anyone on their death bed wanting to think back on the times they tried to hurt someone by giving them a thumbs down and then going to meet their Maker having had nothing to do but be jealous, meanspirited, spiteful, or all three! Very nice video. Very nice family. By the way my wife makes biscuits same way as you!

Went visiting this Sunday afternoon and came home starving like 2 wolves. The hubby and I cut pieces from a cold pork roast in the fridge and warmed it up for a bbq sandwich. My Aunt Nancy used to bring me some when I went to college at Appalachian State University and I could eat that soup right out of the jar! It just taste like summer. My aunt & uncle were dairy farmers for Prairie Farms. They also had pigs & chickens. They saved all the kitchen scraps to put in the slop bucket for the pigs, kind of like I think you do with the chickens. I used to love *slopping* the pigs when I was a kid. I always wanted to run away & go live with them. They grew all their own food & canned or pickled anything they could get their hands on. The farm was Heaven to me.

When tou go to canning your granny's soup base, I hope you take us along with you. Maters, okra and pasta are a good combo! Cake sure does look mighty fine! My Mommaw did her warsh on mondays. She served unfrosted sheet cake with canned peaches for dessert after supper. She called it monday cake. She didn't have time to make a frosted cake come wash day. Did you all do that too? Every day of the week was a certain day for particular jobs.

That wealthy television cook-- the one known for EVOO will sell us her "trash" bowl for $15. I've got the old pink plastic bed bath pan my grandmother used as long as I can remember as my "trash" bowl-- your metal bowl is also fabulous.
