40 min video - What a treat!!! 😊 It’s nice to hear you talk through your camping gear. Also, I just love how Dot was with you the whole time…❤ She’s so adorable 🥰 (And the unexpected cameo appearance of Bean was a lovely surprise too)

Thank you so much! I’m glad the 40min ramble wasn’t something to enjoy! Dot is such a cuddle bug. I enjoy her presence so much! And little Bean, I was glad he made an appearance too.

Your dog is so fun to watch! He really loves you, because he sticks to you like glue!😂 Anyway, the video really helped me. I stopped the video and consolidated my dehydrated meals into my bear cylinder. I’m old now, so weight is an issue even on short trips and your video helps me to scrutinize my pack items, because I have always been a what if person!😂 what if’s tend to never happen that much and I find myself lugging a bunch of extra weight around for no reason. Thank you!😊

I can totally relate to the “what if” syndrome! It’s a fine balance. There’s a reassurance in being prepared, but man, having a lighter pack is really rewarding. I’m glad you were able to take a look at your own set up and reconfigure things! And yes, she is a bit of a Velcro dog! ❤️

Wow! Alicia changed from a heavy canvas backpack. I’m shocked but I think it’s for the better. I’m 64 and can’t carry the weight I used to, dropping your base weight will make it so much easier and more fun. After I started using lighter weight gear I’m not exhausted when I get to a camp site. I would still carry a fixed blade knife though. I hope you have a blast on your trip.

Haha I know… the canvas, I love it so! But, I think dropping the extra weight will be greatly appreciated. I think as a younger person I felt I had to prove myself with a heavy pack. Now I just want to be comfortable, haha.

I love your videos and my husband also likes to watch so that he can get some new ideas from you. I’m 60 and my husband is 61. We (especially me) are not able to carry heavy anymore. Love your vides and THANK YOU!! BTW, I LOVE all your fur babies!! They are so cute.

If you are in doubt about taking Bean, keep using the idea of weight reduction, and think of him not as a ferret, but as a third dog, an ultralight one (= I really like your gear videos. I always find out about a very interesting new piece of equipment that I can add to my kit. I also carry a Nitecore, and i love it; mine is the NU25. As a back up i carry a Nitecore Tip pocket light, or my regular edc light, the Copper TPF by Maratac. Also, have you heard about the ESEE brand knives? They have some lightweight models, "IZULA" and "Candiru" that are tiny and light, but still pretty heavy duty. Thanks for the videos.

What a great set up! That is a massive difference, especially when you have to carry the weight for days on end! Water always worries me as well (even just finding it), especially when I am traveling with a dog, I always make sure I carry extra water for her (and a few extra portions of her kibble, just in case). I also don't like mummy sleeping bags (for many reasons). I once, unexpectedly, camped with a kitten. She always wanted to sleep at the very bottom of my mummy sleeping bag, which scared me; I was afraid of crushing her or that she would suffocate. She, however was as happy as could be 😂 I wonder, how do you backpack with Bean? Especially the in-the-tent set up (does he have a sleeping crate, toilet area, etc) I understand, when you travel by car, you take one of those (hardcase) pet carriers, but what do you use when backpacking, or is he loose in the tent when you are sleeping? I am sure it's going to be a great trip! Hope you will have a wonderful time!
@adventuredenali
@adventuredenali Ай бұрын
Wow, an unexpected night with a kitten? I’m so curious about that! As for Bean, we had planned to use a portable, collapsible cat carrier. It was under a pound and seemed like an easy thing to carry. He slept just fine in it, however, he woke up every two hours needing to be let out to poop and pee… usually his travel carrier has a litter box in it. We decided that it wasn’t going to work bring him along on a backpack after all, so we ended up car camping in the mountains instead. I was a little bummed, but we made the most of it, and now we know!
@SaLiDeLune
@SaLiDeLune Ай бұрын
@@adventuredenali It was actually a few weeks camping with a kitten! I was 14, camping with my parents (my parents had their own tent, and I had my own tiny tent) in the South of France (it's what 80% of Dutch people used to do), my old cat had just passed away a few days before we left, and for some reason I just *knew* I was going to get a cat on that trip. So one day we went to the farmers market in the village, and there was a woman, with two kittens, in a bag, on her way to drown them in the river (apparently this used to be normal, especially in small/rural villages), so I begged my parents if I could keep them, however they said I could keep ONE kitten, so I took both of them off the woman and walked around the farmers market until I found someone who wanted one of the kittens, and I kept the other one! The kitten (I named her Sammetje) went everywhere with me, and then she went home with us, to the Netherlands. Sammetje was a sweetheart, and she went with me when I moved out several years later, eventually she passed away when I was in my thirties.. Oh, what a bummer! I can understand that you were a little disappointed that you ended up having to go car camping instead of backpacking. I totally understand! Bean is just too much of a gentleman with proper manners, he needs his bathroom 😉 And you're right, at least now you know! Hopefully you will get another chance to take your new backpack set up, out for a spin this summer!

Best, best wishes for a great trip! Dot was so sweet ... I was wondering if she was sticking extra close to make sure she was included in the packing?

Water filters are not effective against everything, as I learned in Nepal. Regular trekkers told me the only 100% effective solution is to boil for 10 minutes. Takes more time and patience, but it would mean you don't need to pack a bag and filter ;-)

Kelly and Jansport were king. Mine was a Jansport. The morning stove was the bomb, even with the white gas. Could cook a whole meal in a Sierra cup. Over 500 miles on AT. Love Washington, Idaho, and Yosemite. Nothing beats a sunset bivouac on the summit after a great climb.
