I really appreciated your presentation of how you use your Roundhead Colchester Student and your practical tips from years of experience. Thank you.

Last time I used a lathe was at school and that was around 45 years ago 😱. People that use lathes for a living are artists, really interesting and informative video 👍

We have an old boxford lathe for the odd job. Love your upgrades!

It also overheats if you run at full speed

The upgrades are a must really to be able to fully utilise modern carbides. The DRO Just makes accurate machining easy.

well said,,beware of buying a large lathe from 1900 that's in a hundred pieces.. and when you spend hours renovating it and get it working, finding out its not suited for modern day work without a lot of head scratching!!! and also help from clever people..

Really enjoyed this vlog. Very informative and motivational (as are all of your vlogs actually). I have a similar machine (60/61 ish). I would like to fit a quick change tool post, but my lathe doesn't have the wide T slot that yours has. Was your top slide a retro fit ?
@ACDodd Жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for the feed back, the wide slot has always been there, I would simply use what you have and make a suitable mount to fit your machine

Interested to understand if the increase of speed affects the original Gamet bearings etc or if you run a different oil?
@ACDodd2 жыл бұрын
I run auto transmission fluid. Not noticed any issues with the bearings. Although it rarely gets used above 2000rpm
