According to legend, carrying a pocketful of buckeyes brings good luck. Early Native Americans called these seeds buckeyes for their resemblance to the eyes of male deer, known as bucks. I use almond bark chocolate on mine. And they also resemble a chestnut. Taste like a Reese’s bar. I loved the laugh MawMaw got off your deer eye comment. 😂

Here you go Corey and Mawmaw. This definition shows it is both a nut from a tree that gets its name buckeye because it looks like the shape and color of a deers eye. So both of you were right. What is a buckeye? The nut gives the tree its name because it is dark brown with a light spot, resembling the shape and color of a deer's eye. The buckeye was named the state tree of Ohio in 1953. The term buckeye has widely been used to describe residents of Ohio in general since the mid 1800s. I loved watching you guys this evening. You made me laugh.

I am in agreement with Mamaw...I have always thought buckeyes referred to the seed pod that drops off a Buckeye tree! Also, the Ohio State Buckeyes, the college football team, have put stickers on their helmets that resemble the leaf of the Buckeye Tree, which is the state tree of Ohio. I lived in Ohio for 10 years and learned all this during my time there.

Then on Christmas Eve day, we would make little treat boxes for all the neighbors, our pastor, and our Bible school teacher. Us kids would pile them in our wagons and deliver them. Buckeyes was one of those candies made. Thank you for bringing back such a beautiful memory :) God's blessing upon you and your family❤
