Roswell delphos 2 a very underrated mic imo, i pair it with a focusrite isa one going into antelope discrete 4 for rap vocals and get very smooth, no harshness and full sounding!

That audio technica is the winner on your voice, that mid range pinch takes away some of the nasal tonality. I imagine that’s what you sound like in the room. Great vid btw, big up

I like the new EV ND series mics. I use the M88 for close-in, low-pitched vocals. Mega proximity. A rather stunning sound.

I have the telefunken TF51. I wonder how this compares to the Evo 251. The TF51 costs more, if the evo sounds better I would sell it. Edit:I see you linked a video comparison thanks!

I only have a Neumann tlm103 Anniversary edition & a Blue BlueBerry, with a Manley Labs Core & a Rupert Neve Designs Newton I only Rap & sing tho… but I love them a lot

I haven't used the tf51, I have however used Telefunken 251E and the Evo and TF are basically interchangeable minus some slight differences in tone curve. Which I mention in the video.

Typically I use the same mic for lead that I use on BGV, unless I have dedicated background singers, in which case SDCs for stereo capture or individual LDCs for close capture (or both) if we're doing it "old school." But the exact mics can vary based on the singers and the arrangement. Do like the km 184s for stereo capture consistently.

You don't have to tell me to think of Stevie, I usually am already. I've only seen one podcast that uses those E.V. mics. Everybody else pretty much uses Shure SM-7. Why do you think that is? Just a trend? I thought one of those boxes was for a Warm Audio mic. I have one that looks just like it that I keep my AT-4040 in. I sing the theme song to the Jefferson's when I put it in there..."Well, we movin' on up!" I have a small diaphragm mic that I use sometimes on snare and hats and I noticed what you mentioned about the rejection of the fastest transient stuff. It actually just stops recording and blanks out for a moment then starts again. Is there any trick to getting around that drawback of the mic or do I have to just back it off or use a different mic?

Great video as always Matt! About saying that no mic locker is complete whithout the km 184 s... We have a pair of shure sm 81 for sdc duties.. would you think the 184s will still have a place, or will be redundant?? What could they bring to the table that is different/complementary?? Thanks a lot for this.!

I don't have a lot of experience with the sm 81s but I remember thinking they were good sounding. I would break it down to how much you like them on "delicate" sources, like violin, acoustic guitar, etc. That's where I use my km 184s - so if it's doing that duty, you're good.
