It's great that your viewers are sending you stuff. Be careful about leaving your tools in the back of the pickup when you go to the parts store. They will go missing in a heartbeat.

It's good to see you putting the tire under the car. Its "insurance". Better to replace the customers wheel then being pinned by the car incase of stand/jack failure

@@8SecSleeper even if I used your jack stand choice, I would still do the same. It is insurance. You hope to never use it but it's there. Please enlighten us common folk what jack stand you would use. As a mobile mechanic, you ever thought of the possibility that you greatly increase your chances of a random car bumming into your car over a shop environment? I have been in both. Would you guarentee your jack choice would keep the car in the air if some driver accidentally bumped into the car being worked on? No you cant.

@@8SecSleeper you picked a fight when there wasn't one there. The point still stands, I'm putting a wheel under any jack if the wheel comes off. It is insurance. You hope not to use it but there. And you must think your butt is the clouds, because that is where your head is

@@ownytony He uses Duralast stands because he frequents Autozone. If you inspect your stands regularly, use a safe jack point, and never "drop" weight onto the stands, they should never fail but he uses a hydraulic jack and tire for triple safety. Personally I would recommend Big Red Torin jack stands with double locking pins.

If I may offer a suggestion, when you're working in the street, as you were on the driver's side of this vehicle, place a couple traffic cones around you to give drivers a warning that you are next to/under the cars. Milwaukee really needs to sponsor you. I have the M12 ratchet wrench and baby impact wrench in 1/4". I probably should of got the impact in 3/8", but it does the job. I have a handy dandy Harbor Freight corded impact if I need it. So far the Milwaukee baby impact in 1/4" breaks lug nuts loose with ease and larger suspension bolts. I love how you roll. I know you're loving that Ford Ranger. Great gas saver, practical, and reliable. Saves you miles on the big box car truck.

Unless you're heating it up and then vice grips or Knipex pliers then it's not rusty lol. Had one where i heated it up, pefect it's coming off. Line was free too, then the line above started leaking...it burnt some of the line, nice.

I always use a valve stem to plug the line when I replace calipers. Hardly lose any fluid. Just an FYI for anyone out there.

I like the gravity bleed method myself. ive found that once you get the first bit to dribble out, i then shut the bleeder and tappy tap tap with a hammer, open again, tap some more. close again. pump them up and open once more. that will get the air out with minimal waste of fluid. if you doing all 4 brakes start with passenger rear, then driver rear, then passenger front, then driver front.

Respect from another mobile tech. Keep your legs from under the car though! Always makes me paranoid seeing that. I sit Indian style mostly. Feels awkward but will feel better than the car falling!

Just a suggestion. It's what I do when doing calipers is mount the new caliper before disconnecting line from old caliper. Once new caliper is installed then I swap the line from old caliper to new caliper with bleeder open to let it start filling and gravity bleed. Just a suggestion

I think it's funny how long cars down south last... Here in ND, if a vehicle is 10 years old, it's completely rotted out. Heck, after one winter here the undercarriage is rusted out.

Well, people don't take care of them either lol, i get what you're saying though. Had a 2013 i think Silverado, dealership put some wack rubber undercoating on it day 1, yeah that helped a bunch the whole thing was just a lost cause, so many holes and weak metal. I can fix most things, but i just hate dealing with rust and metal/body work. I'll get a car with dents and scratches but rust just sucks. (Canadian here,rust belt) I try to undercoat with a liquid undercoat each year to stop that crap.

I worked on my 1993 Mercury Cougar brakes a few years ago. The calipers were so gummed up that I had actually bent the handle on my disc brake kit. So I decided to replace the calipers. And then I discovered that the brake lines were full of gunky-slime and chunks of nasty. So I bleed out the whole system one line by one line. Then I just decided to call my mechanic friend to help me put it all back together haha. I did volunteer to pay her extra because she is my friend and she had to jump in the middle of my project.

The shield is a dust and debris shield. Not a huge deal if it's gone, so if ya'll are doing your brakes and notice it's gone, it's not an emergency obviously, but still get it done. It keeps rocks and dirt from getting on your rotors and pads while going down the road.

One thing I wonder why you don't do it. Whenever I work on the front brakes, I always turn the wheel all the way to the left or right in order to give me better access to the bolts for the pads and calipers. Is there a reason you don't do the same and just leave the wheels straight? Regardless, love your channel.

It’s always a good idea to take a wire brush and clean up the rust on the hub face to give it a clean and level mating surface!

Instead of using your finger for the brake caliper line to prevent air introduced into the system, try using a valve stem, has worked wonders for me and keeps both hands free for installation.

Hey man just started watching your Channel and when I do brake jobs that require the calipers to be changed I pinch the line off with line pliers and normally fill the new calipers on the ground first then attach the line save a little time on bleeding the line and you know it’s got fluid in all of it just my way

It's really important to clean the hub face of any and all rust and debris so the new rotor sits flush. Even a microscopic amount of rust will cause runout and brake pulsation. 3M makes a hub cleaning attachment and disks you use on a drill or right angle grinder to clean the hub face so its shiny and new. You can use a wire brush too for the inner crevice around the center. You can use a fluid hose pinch tool to gently pinch off the brake hose so it doesn't leak while you replace the caliper.

I remember doing the same job once with the pins, one caliper had pins missing and the pin holes where a bit corroded, I was lightly tapping the new pins threw it when they started to bend!!! The new ones were so fragile!

I was at a shop, parts guy dropped off new rotors, mechanic turned them! I asked why turn new rotors, he said quality is so low now they are not true out of box! Eye opening!

I like putting antiseize on the bleeder screw, hub face and wheel studs. I live in the rust belt. It really sucks to snap a bleeder screw in a caliper. Some say your going to contaminate the brake fluid, just dont slob it on you will be fine.

Do you ever get a pair of long nose vice grips and pinch off the brake hose so it doesn’t drip any brake fluid while your working??? I do it all the time works great 👍 . Pinch it off just a bit so it don’t drip 💧 and won’t damage the brake hose

Ive always found it a bit less hectic bolting the new caliper up first, then swapping the brake line over so its mounted still and you can directly swap it

FYI that shield is not really necessary but I kinda it keeps the heat from the axel(but I’m sure you knew that)

For body on frame vehicles trucks and SUV’s put the tire under the axle. This will give you plenty of protection. Unibody cars and SUV’s are fine on side of car.

I wonder the same question. I have business license for landscaping in Washington state and I keep it on the dash viewable from outside just to be on the safe side. I never had problems. I only ran into a quick question from the city (Seattle SDOT) if I had a permit to remove public-road asphalt, and yes the home-owner did have a city permit, then they continued on without verifying anything from our end. Even had people flip out at me and take photos of me and my truck and try calling numbers all because I was running a gas leaf blower during the appropriate construction-noise time schedule. I went to my truck and said "would you like me in the photo too with dual wielded chainsaws?" hahaha. City law permits construction noise levels all days and something like 8am-10pm or something, but I only work between 10am-5pm.

You buy loaded calipers? When I was new to cars at the age of 17. I jack my car on a slope with the car supplied jack and it fell over. Glad i wasnt under it

I assume that everyone who is changing brakes for the first time and is watching for tips may not know why you put the rotors on backwards to spray them with brake clean before you install them the correct way. Maybe explain why you do that.

Good tip when changing calipers/breaking into brake lines is to jam the brake pedal down, that closes the reservoir off from the rest of the system and slows fluid loss. I use a pri bar wedged against the driver's seat and pedal but you can buy a tool too
