My model railroad dream layout: Construction in stages (English subtitles)

Two years ago, I started building what is now my fourth model railroad layout.
I want to lay around 700 meters of track, connect 220 switches and lovingly design around 22 square meters of model railway area in a 32 square meter hobby room.
If my plans are correct, this will be my last large layout, as I expect it to take 20 to 30 years to build.
That's why I've taken Denzel Washington's quote "Dream big, start small!" to heart and will divide the layout into individual construction phases.
In this video, I explain why exactly I'm doing this and how I want to proceed in detail.

Hallo Mobahner, das ist Klasse, bin seit etwa 2004 wieder bei der Modellbahn und baue seit 2010- 2011 wieder an meiner jetzigen Anlage eigentlich eine Modulanlage, 7 an der Zahl. Modul 1 und 7 sind größtenteils Fertig, 5 ist in der Arbeit, weitere werden folgen aber sie soll nie Fertig werden. Deine Anlage ist mega und das Du dir Zeit nimmst find ich super, deswegen ein Abo und ich schaue mir alles an und bleib dran. Schöne Ostergrüße Didí’s 🚂🚂

Nice plan. Very well done presentation! Check your accessibility in case of accident on the track. Consider your decreasing flexibility with increasing age. A spiral with that height with more than two tracks reduces accessibility too. Think about that, please. And check your catenary planning. In some cases the distance between the masts is too long for a straight catenary wire (Sommerfeldt or Viessmann planned?) Regards, Heinz

Hello Heinz, thank you very much for your valuable considerations! Accessibility is critical for such a big layout, you are absolutely right. Here I have to see what I can live with and what I can‘t. The catenary masts are only dummies. The current collectors do not have contact with the wire but are fixed 1 to 2 mm below it. Best regards, Jörg

Hallo, wo kann man denn sich setzen und alles in Ruhe genießen? Da scheint nur sehr wenig Platz zu sein und wenn dann eine andere Person da ist wird es wohl eng.

Hallo Wolfgang, wie fast alles musste ich das natürlich auch vorher ausprobieren... Vor den beiden Bahnhöfen gibt es eine Sitzfläche von 1,20 - 1,30 Meter Tiefe und >2 Meter Breite. Das ist ungefähr das, was ich auch im Büro zwischen Schreibtisch und Schrankwand habe - d.h. falls dort jemand an der Anlage sitzt kann sich sogar noch jemand dahinter vorbei quetschen. Alles andere sind Bereiche zum Stehen mit 70cm Gangbreite. Da passt tatsächlich immer nur einer hin!
