So, we have a limited arsenal and challenging conditions. Given that, if I were exclusive to Motiv Products, these are the bowling balls I would bring with.
The first ball always in the bag is a spare ball. Motiv makes this choice pretty easy in only having one option in the laser sniper. I had previously owned the arctic sniper which was definitely reliable, but also hooked a bit as it was urethane. This newest green option is one that is a poly and urethane blend, so it’s fair to expect it would do the right thing to make those single pins.
Moving on, The next ball in the bag is going to be urethane. Again, Motiv makes this one rather simple in only having the Carbide tank in their line. I would have preferred a blue or purple tank myself, but they have been discontinued, so I would definitely be putting some reps into the carbide tank to walk in with some lane shine on it. It is a very strong cover on which you can always bring the surface back down, but please, save yourself a bad decision and stop sanding your equipment in the squad room.
Then we start getting into the reactives. Having 4 spots left, I’ll stick with the rule of thumb I used for the storm arsenal in having both a shiny and dull symmetrical option, and a shiny and dull asymmetrical option. It’s not a perfect science, but it gets us close.
Jumping to the most performance, my dull asym choice is the Jackal Ghost. Interestingly enough, the Ghost has been in production longer than any asym of any other brand, and I don’t think that’s by mistake. Motiv made the best of a bad situation with the ban of the original Jackal and the Carnage by bringing this piece out soon thereafter and it still being a great performer. With a little extra surface on it, I see this being a great option for the fresh.
Jumping to the shiny asym, this was actually pretty simple as the options are again limited. The Mythic Jackal is one that doesn’t get a lot of recognition and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is on the chopping block to be discontinued, but with the other two choices being the Pride Empire and the Blue Coral Venom, and the mythic being hybrid instead of pearl, I would prefer more core to control the midlane and be a little easier off the spot downlane.
Moving to our dull symmetrical option, this was by far the easiest choice. It’s just too legendary to leave it out of the bag. The OG Venom shock is just one of those pieces that you have to bring with. I think at this year’s event, if you can get the surface to match up with the pattern, this might be one that gets used more than all the rest combined, so don’t be afraid to adjust the surface during practice!
And lastly, the shiny symmetrical option. This one was difficult as I was really hoping the new Supra would be announced by now, but nevertheless, FLASH, the Primal Shock is a great option to open the lane up and generate downlane angle. I don’t think it will need to be much shinier than the box surface with some lane shine, but if you see it as being early, consider some slight polish to really make sure it clears the fronts when you have to get in and wheel on it.
